HOUSE FOR A PAINTER In Progress
ai n Ho us e
Located in rural, Upstate New York, the House for a Painter is conceived as the restrained composition of three elements: the main living quarters, a guesthouse/gallery and studio space. A continuous engawa offers semi-protected passage between buildings, without detracting from the singular presence of each space. A conversation between mass and void seeks an introverted architecture that looks to reconcile the expressive curves of the natural landscape with the hard geometry of the urban environment. Emphasizing interiority, the House for a Painter achieves a quiet presence in compliment to the idiosyncratic voice of the artist.

MOI RESTAURANT In Progress
Private Project, 2019 Partner: David Yukio Kagawa In a nod to the street restaurants of urban Vietnam; CMU block, concrete and lightweight K-joists provide an industrial setting for a casual-fine dining take on Vietnamese street food. Blurring the interior-exterior divide, over-sized sliding glass walls draw the occupiable garden into the restaurant, wherein plants grow between movable wooden tables and chairs. A raw material palette, sweeping ETFE skylights and vegetation provide a stripped-down, muted backdrop for the colorful and vibrant dishes. A custom wooden furniture program compliments the large communal tables, benches and stools that seek to provide a stripped down dining space, allowing guests to relax into the experience of food, company and setting.

MACHINE SHED In Progress
Private Project, 2018 Partner: David Yukio Kagawa A 100’ x 40’ storage shed for a private client in Conneticut. Requiring additional storage space for new machinery, a light-frame structure was conceived to serve as shelter and maintenance space. In dynamic conversation with it’s setting, the use of perforated and polished corrugated sheeting blurs context and structure. Surroundings are at once reflected and distorted, drawing a distinct architectural presence without detracting from the stillness and beauty of it’s rural setting.

Concept – Const. Documentation WeWork, 2018 – Present: Designer Note: Due to NDA, client and project information cannot be disclosed. Across various Fortune-500 company headquarters, interventions have ranged from 3000sqft to 200,000 sqft+ across multiple floors. Working under an accelerated timeline, projects leveraged existing WeWork design IP to ascertain and respond to client demands in a timely, yet client-specific manner. Design challenges included full-custom millwork package, interconnecting stairs, difficult existing conditions and cross-functional integration of design-construction teams. Responsibilities included numerous client-facing design presentations, furniture + lighting specification, drawing set development, sub-contractor coordination and AOR management.

HOTEL SEVILLA
Concept – Design Development Zeller & Moye, 2017 – 2018: Project Designer A historically listed colonial mansion in Merida, Mexico, to be converted and updated into a 25-room boutique hotel. Seeking to preserve the history and character of the existing building, a restrained architectural strategy serves the precise insertion of four new programs, while updating the dilapidated structure and spaces in parallel, though an interpreted, preservationist aesthetic. New architectural elements inserted into the building are clearly distinguished from the existent edifice through material expression and geometric clarity. Responsibilites included the entirety of drawing development, project advancement and package delivery alongside regular client and consultant presentations.

ÁLVARO OBREGÓN 90 Ciudad de México, Mexico Full Renovation, 2017 Under a strictly limited budget, the dilapidated facade of Álvaro Obregón 90 was restored through an updated interpretation of the building’s architectural history and context. The original marble cladding was repaired, refinished and repositioned to serve as a sunshade for floors below, while fully expressing the expansive floor-to-ceiling glazing of the apartments within. The strong vertical presence of the original curtain-mullion relationship was incorporated into the new design. Chrome vertical blinds complement the variable mullion
spacing on each floor, providing a muted reflection of the city while providing a low-cost solution for solar gain. The interior has been stripped to its bare structural elements, reimagined as a flexible living unit that pivots around a compact core. Tight column spacing presented a formidable organization challenge, pushing an open floor concept that could be easily adapted according to tenant needs. Units are offered as base one-bedrooms, upgradable to two bedroom apartments as required.

113 West 136th Street New York, NY Competition, 2018 In searching for socially and financially viable solutions for many of New York’s difficult-sized lots, a call for affordable housing solutions was put forth by the Center for Architecture. Bosetti—Desjardins, in collaboration with Will Ehrman, conceived of a proposal that maximizes unit flexibility, affording broad compatibility with all demographics facing issues of housing accessibility. The restrictive 19’ width of the sample lot inspired an economization of building components, driving the
decision to express the stair as an architectural feature, granting better light penetration while freeing up valuable interior space and creating an internal courtyard. In addition to the stair, each unit is conceived of four components: a master bedroom, a wet-section (kitchen/ bathroom), a living space, and bedroom/office. A linear layout avoids inefficiencies while maintaining substantial light and air throughout the unit, improving living standards for the disadvantaged.

ISRAEL NATIONAL LIBRARY Schematic – Design Development Herzog & de Meuron, 2015 – 2016: Design Intern Team: Carly Gertler, Partner Intern At the intersection of print and digital media, the Israel National Library appropriates new program and technologies necessary to perform as educational, cultural and political institution. Conceived as a carved stone placed atop five transparent vitrines, the architecture is monolithic at distance. The vitrines pierce into the mass above. The mineral surface is chipped to provide tactile roughness, contrasted and softened by human-scale wood frames. Responsibilities included model building, space planning, FF&E, RCP development, material prototyping, presentation design, client-consultant meetings and image making.
