1 Lleyn Sheep Society Conditions of Sale for the Society In-Lamb Sales at Carlisle 2014 1. Only registered Lleyn sheep born during or after 2009, and belonging to members of the Lleyn Sheep Society, will be accepted. 2. Entries to consist of individual in-lamb ewes, geld (empty) or in-lamb hoggs (ewe lambs). M.V. Accredited and Non M.V. Accredited sheep will be accepted and penned separately. All sheep will be sold individually and through the ring. 3. No more than 5 entries per flock will be allowed. The Society will permit one substitute per vendor provided the details for the substitute are presented to the Society’s Secretary three clear days prior to the date of the Sale. 4. All ewes and In-lamb hoggs (ewe lambs) must be scanned as in lamb. 5. Entry forms and “Conditions of Sale” are available from The Secretary Mrs. Gwenda Roberts; Promotions Officer Miss Heather Stoney, or by downloading from the website. 6. Entries to the Sale must be made on the Official Entry Forms. All relevant details must be completed in full. Only sheep thus entered will be allowed in the Sale. A non returnable entry fee of £10 + VAT will be charged for each individual sheep. NOTE: If the details are not fully completed or the correct entry fee not included, the Entry Form will be treated as void. Entry forms should be returned to The Secretary, Mrs. Gwenda Roberts no later than the closing dates as shown in blue on the entry form. 7. Additional comments (up to 30 words) may be inserted with the entry. Black and white photos can be included at a cost of £30 + VAT per photo. 8. In the event of an excessive entry, the committee reserves the right to scale back the entries. 9. The Sale will commence with all the M.V. Accredited sheep going through the ring first in balloted vendor order. The Non-M.V. Accredited sheep will then follow in the same format. The order of the sale will be by a ballot drawn in the presence of a Society representative. The Sale catalogue will be printed strictly in accordance with the outcome of the ballot. 10. Sheep will be accepted at the sale yard on the morning of the sale. To deliver earlier please arrange directly with the market. SPECIAL IN-LAMB CONDITIONS 11. UDDERS – All sheep are sold as correct in the udder. Any complaint about udders should be made to the Auctioneer before removal from the sale premises and within 2 hours of the end of the sale. 12. All ewes must be sound in the mouth any complaints regarding any defects should be reported to the Auctioneers before removal from the sale premises and within two hours of the end of the sale. Ewes born in 2011 or earlier must have reared a lamb. 13. BREEDING GUARANTEES – All sheep (except geld/empty hoggs) are sold as having been scanned inlamb. The service/due dates and number of lambs given should be accurate to the best of the Vendor’s ability. However cannot be guaranteed. If a sheep proves NOT to be in-lamb, the purchaser must notify the auctioneers supported by a Veterinary Certificate confirming the same within 30 days of the date of the sale. 14. SCANNING – This information, if available will be printed in the catalogue. If not, it must be given out by the Vendor at the time of sale. IDENTIFICATION i.

Ewes born in 2009 and 2010 – These ewes must be tagged with information defined by Defra (or equivalent) in both ears. One of these tags may be a Society tag (white tag) which carries both Society management information and Defra (or equivalent) information. In the event of not utilising a Society tag, the right ear should be tattooed (for 2009 born only) with the Member’s flock number. Members electing not to use a Society tag are required to show the Society management information on at least one of the double tags.

All females born in 2011 and after - these females must be tagged with information defined by DEFRA (or equivalent) in both ears. The Society tag will act as a third tag but should members wish not to have three tags then they must include Society information (flock number, year number and individual number to match the EID) on the visual tag in addition to the DEFRA requirements.

ALL SHEEP ENTERED MUST BE PROPERLY TAGGED AND TATTOOED AND THOSE NOT CONFORMING WITH THE ABOVE WILL NOT BE ALLOWED IN THE SALE. PLEASE NOTE THAT TATTOOING IS NO LONGER A NECESSITY AS FROM 2010 ONWARDS. It is the individual Member’s responsibility to comply with the current Government tagging regulations and Members are strongly advised to check the requirements with Defra (or equivalent).


2 PRESENTATION 15. All sheep must be accompanied by the appropriate Ministry movement licence and, in the case of MaediVisna Accredited stock, a Maedi-Visna movement form. In the absence of either form, sheep will not be permitted to unload. 16. All sheep are to be penned as advised on the official sales catalogue. Late arrivals will be refused admission to the sale ring. 17. Sheep presented at the sales must be untrimmed. Moreover, the Society discourages artificial colouring of wool. In the event of any sheep creating inspection difficulties, the vendor will, at the discretion of the Inspectors, be asked to wash them. 18. Undocked sheep will not be accepted. 19. All sheep showing forward in teeth must be declared at the time of sale, otherwise they are returnable. 20. A fine of £20 per pen will be imposed if a vendor fails to present his or her sheep on the day of the sale. 21. All prize winners at the Show preceding the Sale must be sold through the ring or prize money (if any) will be withheld. 22. Vendors are allowed to display only the following items on their sheep pens: Flock Boards Rosettes which they have won at the Show before the Sale Official cards issued by Signet National Scrapie Plan certificates (Copies). SHEEP INSPECTION 23. A panel chosen by the Society’s Council will inspect all sheep. Any entry which does not meet the Society’s breed standards will be withdrawn. NOTE: THE PANEL’S DECISION IS FINAL and any query arising from the Inspectors’ decisions should be directed to the Secretary or other Society Representative on the day of the Sale. The Inspection criteria is to ensure the sheep conform to ‘breed type’. MINIMUM SALE PRICE 24. Sheep shall be sold in guineas and no sheep can be sold for a price less than 200gns. ANIMAL HEALTH 25. It is advised that all sheep are treated against scab within 28 days before the sale. Take advice from your veterinary surgeon or soil association before treating in-lamb sheep. 26. Vendors with sheep showing signs of any contagious disease at any sale will be asked to remove the sheep from the market premises immediately and those sheep will not be offered for sale. Where necessary the whole consignment may have to be removed. If a vet is called, and supports the Society decision, the fees incurred will be the responsibility of the vendor. DISPUTES 27. In the case of a dispute between a Vendor and the Society in which a Veterinary Surgeon is called, if the Veterinary Surgeon finds in favour of the Vendor, the Society will be liable to pay the veterinary fees. However, if the Veterinary Surgeon finds in favour of the Society, the Vendor will be liable to pay the veterinary fees. 28. A Society Representation will be present to be consulted in the case of disputes prior to the sale. 29. Any complaint should be made to the Auctioneers within 2 hours of the end of the Sale and before the removal of animals from the Sale premises. 30. Any dispute concerning the ear tag numbers of sheep sold at the Sales will be the responsibility of the Vendor and any cost incurred as a result will fall entirely upon the Vendor. 31. If sheep have not been tagged correctly, according to the Society’s rules (see para 15), the Purchaser may, within 2 hours of the end of the Sale and before removal of the animals from the Sale premises, return the animals to the Vendor and be refunded the purchase price. However, should any disputes arise which involve Maedi-Visna accredited sheep that have been moved by the Purchaser to the non Maedi-Visna accredited section, any claim will be void. GUIDANCE TO BUYERS 32. All sheep will be sold in guineas. 33. Prospective buyers should please note that, whilst all sheep have been inspected to the best of the Inspection Panel’s ability, it is in your interest to select carefully the sheep that are compatible with your pedigree breeding or commercial requirements. Buyers are advised to inspect their purchase(s) thoroughly and report any complaints within 2 hours after the end of the sale or before removing the sheep from the market premises. 34. For the benefit of buyers, the definitive year numbers are as follows: 2009 – 09, 2010 – 10, 2011-11, 2012 – 12, 2013 - 13 ANY MEMBER WHO DOES NOT HONOUR THE CONDITIONS OF SALE WILL BE STRUCK OFF THE SOCIETY’S REGISTER
