BEYOND MAGAZINE
Harrogate Comedy Festival is back for the fourth year and it’s bigger and better than ever. I know, I know we say that every year - but believe me, this year’s line-up features even more famous faces, emerging comics, sketch troupes - you’ll be spoilt for choice. Which is lucky really, as this year we’ve introduced some smashing Festival discount offers when you book more than 1 show in the Festival including Best of the Fest and Make a Night Of It (See Page 15). If that’s not enough to tickle your funny bone, don’t forget to like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter for exclusive competitions and behind the scenes gossip. Most importantly of all, we do hope you can join us for the biggest Harrogate Comedy Festival yet and all right on your doorstep (not literally... that’d be weird). Kevin Jamieson Executive Producer
New for 2012 Harrogate Comedy Festival Comedian of the Year in association with
This year we are on the look out for someone to crown this year’s Comedian of the Year. Anyone can enter and the winner will receive a £350 cash prize and a performance slot on the Hyena Closing Gala alongside four other top comics. We will be holding three heats with each stand-up allowed eight minutes in which to win over the judges and the audience. The judges and audience will pick their favourite act to progress to the final with 2 other acts across all the heats receiving a judges wild card entry. Then the audience will vote for the ultimate winner of Harrogate Comedy Festival’s Comedian of the Year. To apply simply send an email to comedianoftheyear@harrogatetheatre.co.uk and tell us a bit about yourself. Rules • The performer’s material must be completely original. • The performer must have at least 8 minutes of original material. • The organisers reserve the right to select all entrants and decisions taken by the organisers and judges are final.
More Sketch Please, We’re British What’s funnier than a great stand-up? Easy – loads of great stand-ups performing together. At this year’s Harrogate Comedy Festival we’ve got six of the genre’s finest troupes providing a thorough sketch education. You’ll have heard of some (Pappy’s, Jigsaw) – maybe not others (Slap & Giggle, Haiste & Lawrence), but each and every troupe in our handpicked selection has bags of funny to offer. From Monty Python to Saturday Night Live, the joy of sketch just keeps on giving. And if it’s your first time, don’t be nervous; we’re here to show you that sketch can be a hilarious experience for everyone. SPECIAL OFFER
