Presented by The John Godber Company & Theatre Royal Wakefield
One of the world’s best-loved adventures is brought to the stage in a brand new production by awardwinning Thunder Road Theatre Company. Revenge is a dish served ice-cold in Alexandre Dumas’ classic adventure novel. In this searing new adaptation, one of literature’s best-loved tales of intrigue and vengeance comes to the stage. When jealous minds conspire against him, Edmund Dantes is sentenced to a lifetime’s imprisonment. Helpless and isolated within the fortress Cheateau D’if, a chance escape sparks Edmund’s thirst for vengeance. The hero is now the villain - and the villain will have his revenge. Following its previous highly acclaimed production of Hyde, Thunder Road Theatre Company now brings fresh verve and physicality to The Count Of Monte Cristo. Deception, escape and a thirst for retribution collide in this swashbuckling production.

Noddy Holder
Suggs: with Mark Radcliffe My Life Story Genuine National Treasure, Godfather of Glam and thinking grandmother’s crumpet Noddy Holder looks back over a lifetime of towering achievements. Re-live the heady days of the pop-tastic seventies, eighties and nineties as he recalls all-conquering Top Of The Pops appearances, endless world tours, epoch defining anthems, thespian triumphs, and glueing some mirrors onto a top hat to change the face of fashion forever. From his early days on the West Midlands’ beat scene, including a stint as a roadie for Robert Plant, Nod charts his rise from shouty skinhead stomper to international pop-star. Coaxing the anecdotal nuggets from the great man is his close friend, confidante and personal dresser Mark Radcliffe. During a career spanning five decades the still astonishingly youthful Boltonian has written four books, released six albums, presented many TV programmes, most notably the BBC’s coverage of the Glastonbury Festival, and has presented shows on BBC Radios 1,2,3,4,5,6 and 7. He remains optimistic of a call from 1xtra and the Asian Network so he’ll have ‘got the set’.
“I’ve just turned 50, the kids have left home, and my cat just died.” In Suggs: My Life Story, the Madness frontman takes to the stage in a hilarious, yet moving, oneman tour de force playing to rave reviews. The death of Suggs’ beloved cat on his fiftieth birthday triggers a personal quest to discover what happened to the father he never knew. Stunned by what he learns, Suggs is taken back to his childhood on the tough streets of 1970’s Soho and his first appearance on Top Of The Pops at the age of eighteen... Is it a play? Is it stand up comedy? Is it Music Hall? Whatever it is hold on to your seats as Suggs stumbles and plummets through the trapdoor of failure. Then trampolines back up to catch the passing trapeze of show-business success.
“Suggs has natural comic timing and tells his story with wit and grace in this hugely enjoyable evening.” The Times

Oliver Reed Wild Thing
Written by Philip Meeks Directed by Stella Duffy Presented by Gilded Balloon
Written by Mike Davis and Rob Crouch Presented by Seabright Productions
Margaret Rutherford’s performance as Miss Marple made her a true movie icon, but it nearly didn’t happen. This intriguing new play humorously unearths the fascinating reasons why. Janet Prince epitomises Rutherford’s jolly boisterous personality and embodies the icon we all know and love so well. She dives into the most exciting and intimate moments of Rutherford’s career, taking the audience with her as she investigates the role of Miss Jane Marple, and we witness Rutherford’s growing friendship with the crime writer Agatha Christie, eventually revealing the poignant truths of Rutherford’s past.
In this blistering solo show, join legendary hellraiser Oliver Reed as he knocks back a few drinks and shares his incredible life story. From the boyhood excitement of learning he was a descendant of Peter the Great, through the success of Oliver!, boozy adventures with Keith Moon and disastrous chat show appearances – this was a life well lived. But though Ollie may appear an unstoppable force of nature, this is Malta in 1999, and time is fast running out for the ‘Wild Thing’. Rob Crouch brings Reed back to life in this swaggering, brilliant evening of entertainment.
“Moving, mirthful and entertaining from start to finish, this gem of a production deserves a wide audience.”

The Grand Gesture
By Deborah McAndrew - Freely adapted from The Suicide by Nikolai Erdman Directed by Conrad Nelson Simeon Duff is working class, unemployed and desperate, and his self-esteem is non-existent. He’s on the scrapheap and wants to end it all. When word gets out that Duff is going to top himself, a host of ne’er-do-wells crawl out of the woodwork looking to make his suicide a grand gesture for their so-called noble causes. But which noble cause will Duff choose: Love? Politics? Religion? The rising price of fish? From the team behind last year’s hugely successful A Government Inspector and featuring a large cast of northern actor-musicians, gypsy band and choir, this brilliant satire is the perfect answer to a long autumn evening in Austerity Britain. TICKETS: CIRCLE & STALLS £17.50 | BALCONY £15.50

Teechers
Written & Directed by John Godber
John Godber’s classic comedy puts the education system under a microscope and examines the themes and issues that are still relevant today. Join Gail, Hobby and Salty, three fifth form students who, through their end of term play, tell the hilarious story of an idealistic new teacher in his perilous first days inside a local comprehensive school. The three cast members effortlessly transform into a vast array of other characters - including teachers, dinner ladies, students, an obstructive caretaker and the school bully - in this contemporary classic.

English Touring Opera
Baroque Opera from Venice English Touring Opera’s season features three different operas written for Venice – from three composers of musical genius and theatricality.
THUR 31 OCT
Jason Cavalli
Sung in English
Loosely based on the story of Jason and the Golden Fleece, Cavalli’s Jason was a runaway hit when it premiered in Venice in 1649, and it proved one of the most popular operas of the 17th century. Like many operas from this period, the story uses classical myth as a jumping off point. The opera opens after Jason has abandoned his wife, Hypsipyle, for the sorceress Medea. Cupid, protector of Hypsipyle, intervenes on her behalf, sending Jason and a motley cast of characters on a rocky journey back to his family in Lemnos.
FRI 1 NOV
The Coronation of Poppea Monteverdi
Sung in English
Love, power, morality, corruption... Monteverdi’s final masterpiece The Coronation of Poppea is often described as his greatest achievement, combining mythic and human themes, and featuring some of his most glorious music. One of the first operas to use historical events and people, it tells the story of Nero’s infatuation with the young and beautiful Poppea as she tries to make him divorce his wife Ottavia, and take her as Empress of Rome.
SAT 2 NOV
Agrippina Handel
Sung in English
Widely regarded as Handel’s first operatic masterpiece, Agrippina stands out for the quality of its music, full of freshness and musical invention. Using many of the same characters as Monteverdi’s The Coronation of Poppea, the opera is in fact a prequel, as Agrippina, wife to the Emperor Claudius, schemes and manipulates to secure the succession to imperial throne for her son, Nero.
