The top artists for whom Chapman has penned hit songs for include: Bonnie Raitt, Emmylou Harris, Bette Midler, Elton John, Neil Diamond, Roberta Flack, Faith Hill, Willie Nelson and many more. Chapman’s prowess at writing in a wide range of styles shines through in her live performances. From the infectious pop sensibilities of This Kiss (Faith Hill) and Simple Things (Jim Brickman) to the strains of bluegrass and country in Strong Enough To Bend (a No.1 for Tanya Tucker) and Nothin’ I Can Do About It Now (a No.1 for Willie Nelson), the thread that runs through it all is Chapman’s great passion for the well-written song. She also has a blast performing these songs – bringing them home and making them her own once again.

Alan Ayckbourn’s Bedroom Farce
D
Directed by Robin Herford
From the team behind last year’s smash-hit Sugar Daddies and West End production of The Woman In Black comes Ayckbourn’s hilariously bleak view of middle-class marriage. Delia and Ernest. Malcolm and Kate. Jan and Nick. Susannah and Trevor. Three bedrooms plus four couples makes for one chaotic night.
Funny, gripping and acutely observed, Alan Ayckbourn’s sophisticated comedy lifts the lid on the secrets of middle-class marriage. Over the course of one night, one outrageously selfish couple parade their problems around the bedrooms of three other couples, exposing the cracks in other people’s marriages, as well as their own. A tightly written tragi-comedy, Bedroom Farce explores the different pressures of relationships at their different stages, slicing deep into the soul of suburbia.

My Romantic History
D
Written by D C Jackson Directed by Keith Hukin ‘If you haven’t met someone by the time you graduate, you’re going to marry someone from your work. It’s that simple. Do you know how they get animals to breed in captivity? They put them in the same cage.”
But soon the ghosts of relationships past begin to interfere with the here and now. And getting over our romantic histories is easier said than done. A comedy about love, loss and laminating machines.
Tom’s been headhunted for a new job. He owns three suits and a modest amount of kitchen equipment. Amy’s got a career, a Fiat Punto and a flat full of stuff. To all intents and purposes she’s a fully-functioning grown up. When Tom and Amy get together after a boozy office party, it seems like they might be able to make a go of it.

Kissing Sid James
S
Written by Robert Farquhar From the company that brought you Housebound, My Favourite Summer and Like a Virgin comes this heartwarming comedy by Robert Farquhar. Eddie is a stationary salesman of some repute: flash car, flash suit, with flash chit chat. Crystal is the local casino croupier: gorgeous, funny, confident. She’s the girl of Eddie’s dreams, but she’s also a girl with a past. A phone call later he invites her for a getaway break and the two would-be lovers head for a romantic rendezvous in a coastal B&B, where Eddie tries to woo and impress the new love in his life.
Will opposites attract and a love life blossom? Or will it be a wet weekend, with no candy floss and love hearts? A big-hearted romantic comedy, with some Sean Connery, karaoke and Scrabble thrown in for good measure, makes for a show to remember.

Ernest and the Pale Moon
Presented by Helen Chadwick Song Theatre Created by Helen Chadwick & Steven Hoggett
Presented by Les Enfants Terrible & Pins and Needles Written by Oliver Lansley
While reporting the outbreak of war, a journalist is held at gunpoint, caught in the no-man’s land between two nations.
Ernest and the Pale Moon returns to Harrogate following huge critical acclaim. From the team behind multi award-winning show The Trench, this spine-chilling tale of obsession and murder is inspired by the works of Edgar Allan Poe and Alfred Hitchcock.
Testimonies, music and physicality fuse into a powerful performance that depicts the extraordinary stories and life-changing experiences of war journalists – men and women who risk their lives in extraordinary circumstances. This verbatim theatre piece comprises interviews with war correspondents covering Iraq, Chechnya, Georgia, Afghanistan, Liberia and Bosnia, including Giuliana Sgrena who was taken hostage in Fallujah, Iraq, and subsequently shot at by the US Army.
Ernest spends his days watching the beautiful young woman who lives in the apartment opposite. Upon seeing her with another man he is thrown into a jealous rage and driven to murder, though all is not what it may at first seem and slowly Ernest’s guilt sends him on a spiraling descent into madness. The piece contains narrative twists and turns, live music, inventive design and physical storytelling for a thrilling and terrifying experience.
War Correspondents has been created by Helen Chadwick and choreographed by co-founder of Frantic Assembly, Steven Hoggett, Olivier Award-winner for Black Watch.

Hurtling Greg Wohead I have a message for you from the past. Ok, it’s a message from this morning, so it may be the recent past. But it’s still the past. Hurtling is an outdoor performance for one on the roof of Harrogate Theatre, with a cassette player and headphones for company. It’s a glimpse of fleeting moments as they zoom past; an attempt to grasp at a slippery present. MON 16 - SAT 21 JUNE
A classic. A landmark. A legend. Famous the world over for being the longest running show of any kind in the history of British theatre – and with more than 25,000 performances under its belt, The Mousetrap is a play to be proud of. It’s celebrating 60 incredible years on stage with a national tour, giving you an opportunity to see this masterpiece here at Harrogate Theatre.
In her own inimitable style, Dame Agatha Christie created an atmosphere of shuddering suspense and a brilliantly intricate plot where murder lurks around every corner. After 60 years, it’s still as fresh as ever.
A group of people gathered in a country house cut off by the snow discover to their horror that there is a murderer in their midst. Who can it be? One by one the suspicious characters reveal their sordid pasts until at the last, nerve-shredding moment the identity and the motive are finally revealed.

The Book
S
Presented by Flying Cloud in association with Harrogate Theatre
One amazing book. Three incredible journeys. The Book is the new play by Yorkshire-based theatre company Flying Cloud. With Flying Cloud’s signature style of new writing, movement, live music and projections, The Book invites you on an intrepid journey of friendship, identity and possibility.
Across centuries the lives of three characters intertwine through the life of the book. The survival of the book both challenges their courage and questions their identity. Their actions unknowingly alter not only their own path but the course of world history.
A beautiful idea is captured in a book but its interpretation has a journey that goes dangerously beyond the author’s imaginings.
In a world of divisive ideas what unites everyone’s story?

Life Cycle
Lost Boy Racer
Presented by Sticks Theatre & Harrogate Theatre
Presented by Julie Amanda Bokowiec in partnership with the Lawrence Batley Theatre
Adam Sunderland is a cycling obsessive. For the last three years he has not missed a single televised live race. Son of a three-time Veteran World Champion Cyclist, his youth was mis-spent at the spokes of many professional riders and as a mechanic for several professional mountain bike teams. This production is a realisation of a life-long love of all things pedal-powered, and a touching story as one racing-cyclist recounts a life in lycra. A lone cyclist riding towards us looks back at his life, from his first ride without stabilisers to his first racer, riding tandem with his first love to crossing the finish line first and eventually hanging up his racing shoes. His trials and tribulations unfold before us as he taps out a rhythm. Every gearshift corresponds to a significant time of life, with mountains to climb, trials to be overcome and victories to be enjoyed.
Sean Racer used to be an energetic wildcat youth hooked on cycling. Now he’s an overweight, 40-something tax inspector on the brink of a personal crisis.Turning to Claude, an oddball sage-like ex-pro cycle mechanic, and encouraged by the wily Linda, a serial tax evader keen to distract him from taking a closer look at her books, Sean hatches a plan to get his life back on track and on two wheels. He will fulfil a youthful dream: to ride the Tour de France. That’s right, he’s going the distance, albeit on a bike on rollers in the shed. Will he make it to the finish? Lost Boy Racer is a quirky northern comedy-drama with a touch of blood, sweat and tears, a large dose of cycling wisdom lubricated with fun and hi-jinx, some off-the-wall bike antics and a love story, of sorts…
Using verbatim theatre, the thoughts and voices of cyclists (hobbyists, amateurs and professionals) will be collected and forged into a highly physical show.

The Witches Written by Roald Dahl Adapted for the stage by David Wood Presented by Harrogate Youth Theatre by special arrangement with Samuel French Ltd Directed by Phil Lowe ‘My darling Boy, you won’t last long in this world if you don’t know how to spot a witch when you see one.’ It is only when our young hero goes to live with his fabulous Norwegian Grandmama that he discovers the real truth about real witches. They don’t ride around on broomsticks; they don’t even wear black cloaks and hats. They are vile, cunning, detestable creatures who disguise themselves as nice ordinary ladies. What’s more, the Grand High Witch has a terrifying plan to rid England of its children, and it’s up to the wise and wonderful Grandmama to prepare her darling Boy to face the most gruesome gathering of witches ever assembled. Will the witches triumph? Are the children of England doomed? Can two small boys and an elderly lady save the day? Roald Dahl’s award-winning tale has all the answers. If you adored the book and loved the film, then you will scream with delight when you see this spectacular, magical adaptation of this timeless classic live onstage brought to life by Harrogate Youth Theatre.
