Review of previous sessions
There are different types of circuits in both three-phase and single-phase supplies
Power circuits are almost all circuits other than lighting and emergency circuits
Control circuits deal with the controlling of motor starters etc.
Lighting circuits deal with lighting
Fire and emergency lighting circuits are easy to recognise.
Faults occur for many reasons, they need to be understood and rectified.
The person who is working must be competent to do the task
Tasks should be planned so that no live working takes place
An approved voltage tester and a voltage proving unit are required for testing of a potentially live piece of equipment.

Fault Finding There are three key aspects to fault finding 1.
Good personal technical knowledge You must know the basics of how electrical systems and equipment function, if you are to make correct judgements about what is wrong.
2.
Good personal experience Personal experience grows out of many years of doing a job and gaining an insight into trade you are doing. It tells you which floorboard to take up in a house, the problems associated with being a contract electrician. This tied to technical knowledge is important
3.
A logical approach. Working in a logical manner can safe time in eliminating the obvious first.
