"I LOVE THE MuSIC THE MUSIC LOVES ME” I was invited to attend an exclusive meeting with new, up and coming sensation Alice Evans. With her recent release of her debut album after the well-received release of her first single, I was excited to ask what was next for the rising star. Upon entering the room I saw her sitting on a chair, she greeted me with a smile and once the formalities were over I began to ask questions. Her debut album ‘Undying Sunset’, was released earlier in the month to critical acclaim, when asked how she felt when she first heard of the prestigious reviews she claimed to be quite overwhelmed and full of pride, saying ‘the focus was always the music as it made me happy but to gain such praise simply doing what I love is truly magical’, an approach to music that I personally

believe the music industry has been lacking in recent years. With her recently revealed to star on the main stage at Glastonbury, I asked how she felt, she said it was an honour whilst also one of the scariest things to think about, ‘I just need to make the most of the experience, it may never come around again! I’m sure if I have fun the crowd will too.’ I thought that in order to engage with Alice, we should ask about her past in the music business. When asking how she began her career she said

she played simple gigs around London in a variety of locations, ’sometimes pubs sometimes halls, sometimes there were as few as 2 people there. That can be a knock. But I always knew it was what I wanted, then when I caught a big break and got to perform at Leeds festival I was over the moon. The crowed were mental and really helped carry my performance, turns out they loved hearing me as much as I loved singing and my life has changed drastically for the better ever since.’. Arctic Monkeys were also at Leeds and heard of Evans’ performance and have shown their support for her ever since, when asking about this she laughed, shook her head and said ‘yeah, it is quite unreal. They’re icons. Like real legends. So to know they’ve even heard my music is quite surreal to think about’. When asked if she would ever consider performing with them she modestly stated that it would be a dream, but will most likely remain at that. But with her career showing no sign of slowing down, the only way looks to be up for Evans’, could that dream one day become a reality? When expanding on her Glastonbury gig later in the year Alice exclaimed her excitement whilst remaining mysteriously quiet saying ‘I will definitely be performing some fan favourites, maybe even unveiling some new material... it’s a very exciting time for me! you’ll have to wait and see’. With the promise of each of her performances being bigger and better, its clear that Alice’s claim to ‘watch this space’ is one to be taken literally! Alice’s debut album ‘undying sunset’ is out now and she will be performing at Glastonbury later in the year. Tickets to be released soon. 18 www.edgemagazine.com
