History of Clovernook This historic home was built in 1918 by Ada Huguley Lanier, wife of the then deceased Lafayette Lanier, who with George Huguley, founded the West Point Manufacturing Company. Except for a brief period descendants of Ada Huguley Lanier have always lived in the house. The home sits on a beautiful hill overlooking the cities of West Point, Georgia and Lanett, Alabama and shares a property line with Fort Tyler. At the time of the Civil War, a fort was built on top of the hill and was named Fort Tyler for its commanding General Robert C. Tyler, CSA. The last “defended fort battle” of the Civil war was fought on this property on April 16, 1865, seven days following Lee’s surrender to Grant in Virginia.
