Hartfield Academy Hawks
Dear Hartfield Family, The atmosphere on campus is one of anticipation as we kick off our 6th year at Hartfield Academy. Those of us active around the school can attest to a growing sense of school pride among our students and community over the past year- much of which can be attributed to a great year in athletics. I’m grateful for Dr. Joe Cole, his leadership, and what I am convinced is the best coaching staff in the entire state of Mississippi. They have prepared our teams with excellence and it’s going to be a privilege to watch our students compete as we step up to the MAIS 4A, Division II level. Sports are an integral part of our community that shape our social interactions, deepen our relationships, and brings joy to our lives. Most of us would agree that learning through experiences on the field or court has been an area that has brought moments of fulfillment and growth our lives personally. Along with the positive elements sports brings to our lives, let’s take advantage of the opportunity athletics provides to be a light for our Lord. In Matthew chapter 5 Jesus encourages us as believers to, ‘let our light shine before others that they may glorify our Father in heaven’. What a better place to show Christ’s love to others than on the field of competition! What message are we sending when others watch our deepest disappointments and our greatest achievements? My encouragement is for us to be mindful of the message we are sending throughout each moment of this upcoming year in sports. Let’s fulfill the mission of our school and the calling on our hearts to draw others toward Jesus through our interactions with each other and our competitors, both on the field of play and off of it. Lastly, let me share a special thank you to Christy Strickland and the Hawk Club for their support. Our teams’ basic athletic needs are funded by our budget, but we could not provide for our student athletes at the level we desire without the tireless volunteer effort given by our booster board and members. Let me encourage you to be a part of the Hawk Club this year. Your involvement makes a difference! My prayer for our athletes this year and beyond is that they learn how to give their best with a genuine heart to glorify God. Please join me lifting them up as we all cheer them forward this year! God bless and Go Hawks! David Horner Head of School

Dear Hartfield Community, Welcome to Hartfield Athletics for 2017-2018. I am very excited to see what God will do through our teams and coaching staff this year! With more than 30 years of experience in high school and higher education athletics, I have never had the opportunity to work with such a high quality and mission-centered group of coaches. God has truly blessed us with a Board and Head of School that allow us to invest in high quality coaches while continuing to make improvements to our facilities. The Athletic Department is extremely grateful to those who have donated to Hartfield’s “Undeniably Different” Capital Campaign. Because of the success of this campaign, next summer we will have a much needed practice gym to benefit all of our teams. Hartfield’s sports programs depend on the support and generosity of our community. The sponsors in this Media Guide are a great example of this support. Therefore, please consider patronizing the businesses displayed in our Media Guide in appreciation. We are very blessed with a great group of parents and Hawk Club members that volunteer countless hours to make games and events run smoothly. We would not be able to do many of the things we do without their help. I am so grateful for this group of people! Please be in prayer as we strive to have mission-centered sports teams competing at a high level. We know that success and excellence provides a platform and environment where Christ can be lifted up and our student athletes can be challenged to develop a closer and stronger walk with Him. Please contact me if you would like to be more involved in Hartfield Athletics, or if you have suggestions for making our Athletic Department stronger or more Christ centered. Sincerely, Joseph Cole Ph.D. Athletic Director
