Sunday marks the first meeting of all-time between Hartford and Villa Maria. The battle on the hardwood will be the first time the Hawks have faced off against a USCAA opponent in program history.

In games played against fellow New York schools, Hartford holds a 133-110 overall record. With a win on Sunday, the Hawks would earn their first win inside Chase Arena this season.

The Hartford women’s basketball team welcome Villa Maria to Chase Arena at Reich Family Pavilion on Sunday, Feb. 12. Tipoff between the Hawks and Vikings is set for 1 p.m.

Scouting The Opponent

The Vikings enters Sunday’s contest with an overall record of 8-6 while posting an early 2-0 record in conference play. Villa Maria took down World of Life last time out by a score of 67-46. Mia McCarthy finished as the leading scorer for the Vikings, dropping 21 points on the night. Maria Falanga leads her squad in scoring, averaging 13.5 points per game. Talia Bush leads the frontcourt, dropping 9.5 ppg while hauling in 10.3 rebounds per game. McCarthy and Autumn Adams-Edwards provoide extra scoring threats for the Villa Maria offense. The guard tandem join Falanga in double figures averaging 12.7 and 10.5 ppg, respectively.

Last Time Out

The Hawks dropped a, 55-72, decision to Central Connecticut State on Wednesday. Freshman Tatum Forbes finished with a team-high 18 points to notch her 200th career milestone. Sophomore Nayeli Dowding added 10 points of her own. Forbes also finished with a team-high six boards on the night. CCSU outrebounded Hartford 50-32, while Belle Lanpher led all scorers, finishing with 19 points for the Blue

Devils throughout the contest.

ZAIHA “ZIGGY” MINNIS

Minnis has been a consistent scoring threat for the Hawks throughout the season. Coming off the bench in 17 of 21 appearances the Clinton, Md., native has lit up the scoresheet. Tallying 132 total points for 6.0 ppg which ranks top-five on the squad. Minnis has also led the team in scoring in three games with a career-high of 15 points coming against Merrimack on Jan. 21.

Season Review

The Hawks earned their first win of the season on Monday, Feb. 5 against Northern Vermont-Johnson. The Hawks took down the Badgers by a final score of 63-53.

Senior Irene Primo led the way for the Hawks posting a career-high 21 points on 5-of-11 shooting from beyond the arc.

Hartford closes out its home slate on Thursday, Feb. 16 against Merrimack. Tipoff between the Hawks and Warriors is set for 5 p.m.
