Five new faces join the Hawks’ roster for 202021. Included in the crop of newcomers are three true freshmen and a pair of transfers
1
Graduate student Traci Carter finished atop Hartford’s singleseason record book in steals in 2019-20, recording 83.
2
A pair of Hawks are averaging double figures in scoring: Moses Flowers (15.3 ppg) and Hunter Marks (11.0 ppg).
NOTES TO KNOW ONE GAME AWAY
Hartford was one win away from earning the program’s first-ever trip to the Big Dance in 2019-20. Hours before loading up the bus to head to top-seeded Vermont for the America East’s Championship Game, the Hawks saw their playofff run come to an abrupt end due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Hartford defeated UMass Lowell and upset second-seeded Stony Brook to earn a spot in the Championship Game for the second time in program history.
SMELL THE FLOWERS
Moses Flowers, an America East All-Rookie Team selection and four-time league Rookie of the Week honoree, enjoyed one of the best seasons by a Hartford freshman in recent history in 2019-20. Scoring 342 points — the fourth-most by a rookie and the most since Morgan Sabia netted 347 in 2007-08 — his 10.4 points per game rank fifth among the program’s rookies.
ON THE MARKS
Junior Hunter Marks had one of the most impressive turnarounds in program history. Logging 32 minutes and scoring six points as a rookie, he started all 33 games and played a team-high 1,152 minutes in 2019020. Marks was one of the Hawks’ top scorers and rebounders, finishing second with 10.8 points and 6.1 boards per game.

ALUMNI FEATURE WHERE ARE THEY NOW?
YOLONZO MOORE II BY THE #’S
31.6
Moore averaged 31.6 minutes per game on his career, the eighth-most in Hartford’s Division I history.
289
Dishing out 289 career assists, including 94 in his junior season (201314), Moore ranks eighth in program history.
1
Moore led the Hawks to their first postseason appearance, a trip to the CIT in 2013.
One call from Hartford men’s basketball head coach John Gallagher changed Yolonzo Moore II’s life forever. Never in a million years would the native of Austin, Texas, have thought that he would land in the Northeast for college. Little did he know that what initially attracted him to Connecticut would eventually be the reason he was drawn back to West Hartford. A standout for the Hawks from 2011-15, Moore quickly bought in to Gallagher’s coaching style as a player. His career was impressive, as he helped lead the Hawks to back-to-back 17 win seasons (201213, 2013-14), and the program’s first-ever Division I postseason appearance — a trip to the CIT in 2013.
16 HARTFORD HAWKS // #FLYHIGH
ALUMNI FEATURE Moore, a management major who made starts in 124 of his 125 career appearances, surpassed the 1,000-point plateau as a senior in 2015. His name is inked throughout the Hawks’ record book, as he ranks No. 8 in assists (289) and No. 8 in minutes per game (31.6). The impact that Gallagher’s first phone call had on Moore was huge — it landed him his first Division I offer and the opportunity to earn a college degree while continuing to play basketball. But the call that Moore received in 2016, one year after graduation, had a lasting impact on his future — it was about a job offer. An opportunity to return to West Hartford, and work alongside his former coach, as the Hawks’ Director of Operations. Moore immediately jumped on the offer, and less than a year later, he was promoted to assistant coach, something that Moore said he has dreamt about since he began playing the game as a child. Jeff Dooley, the voice of the Hartford Hawks, had a chance to catch up with the Hawks’ assistant coach. To hear more about Moore’s jouney, check out the interview below.
