SETTING THE SCENE

After having the 2020 fall season delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Hartford volleyball team takes the court for the first time on Sunday since facing UAlbany in the 2019 America East Championship Match on Sunday. The Hawks begin the season by playing host to conference newcomer NJIT in a doubleheader inside the Hartford Volleyball Gym. Match times are set for 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Megan Anderson, who enters her senior season ranked fourth in Hartford’s rallyscoring record book in career assists (2,473), needs 310 helpers to move into third place

RISE OF THE HAWKS

Entering his third season at the helm, head coach Vinh Nguyen has brought Hartford to new heights on the court. His 2018 Hawks qualified for Hartford’s first America East Tournament appearance since 1996. Guiding the program to 16 wins in 2019, Nguyen led Hartford to its first appearance in the title match of the America East Tournament since 1994, where the Hawks came one set shy of making the program’s first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance.

NJIT NOTES QUICK HIT NJIT comes into the contest with an 0-5 overall record, which includes an 0-4 mark in America East matches. The Highlanders are coming off a doubleheader where they suffered consecutive 3-0 losses against Stony Brook at home.

#11 ELLEY TORRES
