Series History

Hartford and Yale will faceoff on the diamond for the 22nd time in program-history. The Bulldogs lead the all-time series over Hartford, 12-9.

Last Meeting

The last time the two teams met was back on March 27, 2019, where Hartford took down Yale, 11-7. Chris Sullivan (‘19) and Ahston Bardzell (‘19) each drove home a pair of RBI in the victory while Devin Kellogg went 1-for-4 at the plate with one RBI.

TODAY’S MATCHUP

The Hartford baseball team gets set for a mid-week matchup against in-state foe Yale on Wednesday, April 12, at Dunkin’ Park in downtown Hartford. First pitch between the Hawks and Bulldogs is set for 5:05 p.m.

Scouting The Opponent

Yale enters Wednesday’s matchup with a 9-16 overall and 4-5 record in Ivy League play. The Bulldogs most recently dropped a three-game set at home against Columbia this past weekend. Yale is led at the plate by Jimmy Chatfield, who paces the team with a .356 batting average, 31 hits, two triples, four homeruns, and 20 RBI. AJ Gaich has been the Bulldogs’ main threat on the basepaths, posting a perfect 13-13 on stolen-base attempts. Colton Shaw highlights the Yale starting rotation with a 4.67 ERA and one complete game for a 2-3 record with 44 strikeouts in 44.1 innings on the mound. Mark Capell has been the main arm out of the bullpen, making nine appearances, eight of which were in relief, tallying 32 strikeouts and a 3.00 ERA.

The Hawks are looking to get back in the win column after dropping a three-game series at Binghamton this past weekend. Noah Rivera had a stellar week for the Hawks, batting .357 across four games with three doubles. Devin Kellogg and Rivera have each been swinging hot bats of late, each riding five-game hitting streaks heading into the mid-week matchup against Yale. Kellogg leads the team batting .275 on the year with 19 hits and four doubles. On the basepaths, Hartford has combined to steal 19 total bases with Martin Chavarria and JJ Romatzick leading the squad with four apiece. Michael Featherstone has proven to be a reliable arm out of the bullpen for the Hawks. Featherstone has registered a 2.57 ERA over 7.0 innings of work with nine strikeouts. Robert Chaney has been the Hawks’ ace in the rotation, posting a 6.18 ERA and 1.48 WHIP with 21 strikeouts in 27.2 innings on the mound.

Home Away From Home

Hartford makes its lone appearance at Dunkin’ Park in downtown Hartford in 2023 on Tuesday. The Hawks own a 9-6 overall record in game played at the park since it opened back on April 11, 2017. Hartford last played at Dunkin’ Park a season ago on May 17, taking down Merrimack, 8-5.
