The Hawks make their return home to Fiondella Field for the first time in 14 days as they take on in-state foe Sacred Heart in a midweek matchup on Tuesday. First pitch between the Hawks and Pioneers is set for 3 p.m.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
After being picked to finish eighth in the Northeast Conference’s (NEC) Preseason Coaches’ Poll, Sacred Heart sits fourth in the midseason standings with a 12-12 overall and 8-4 record in conference play. The Pioneers enter play dropping four of their last five contests, most recently falling to LIU, 12-11, on Sunday. Michael Boyian highlights the Sacred Heart pitching staff, ranking second in the NEC posting a 2-1 record with a 3.33 ERA and 16 strikeouts in 24.1 innings of work. Sam Mongelli leads his squad batting .398 on the season with 39 hits, eight doubles, five homeruns, 33 runs, and 66 total bases. Robert Farruggio has been the main run producing threat for the Pioneers, driving home a team-leading 25 RBI. Ryan Donnelly is a menace on the basepaths, tallying a team-high nine stolen bases on the year.

The Hawks are coming off a three-game series at Coppin State over the past weekend. Hartford took the series opener over the Eagles, 3-1, on Saturday. Alec
Couture (1-3) got the start and earned the win after an outstanding day on the mound, tallying a career-high eight strikeouts in 7.1 innings of work. Manny Corporan pitched one inning of relief while Joe Dooley locked up the victory for the Hawks, earning his first career save after recording the final two outs with one strikeout. Hartford as a team stole a season-high three bases in the series finale, with Joseph Woronick, Devin Kellogg, and JJ Romatzick each swiping a base. Harrison Engstrom launched his first career homerun in a Hartford uniform against the Eagles on Saturday.
QUICK HITS
Martin Chavarria has been red hot as of late, riding a five-game hitting streak into the mdiweek matchup. Chavarria has gone 5-for-13 in the five-game stretch with four doubles and one RBI. Michael Featherstone has proven to be a reliable arm out of the bullpen, striking out six batters in 5.2 innings of work. Registering a 3.18 ERA out of the bullpen, Featherstone hasn’t allowed a run in five of his first six career outings on the mound.
