The Hartford baseball team is set to make its 2023 season finale this weekend with a split four-game set against in-state foe Quinnipiac. First pitch of Saturday’s doubleheader at Fiondella Field is set for 12 p.m.

Senior Day

Prior to Saturday’s doubleheader, the Hawks will honor eight members of the Hartford baseball team in a special Senior Day Cermony. Hartford will honor graduate students Noah Rivera, Harrison Engstrom, and Robert Chaney, as well as seniors Martin Chavarria, Tyler Holmes, Joseph Woronick, Edwin Almanzar Jr., and Manny Corporan.

Scouting The Opponent

Quinnipiac enters competition with a 18-23 overall and 10-8 record in Metro Atlantic Athletics Conference (MAAC) play. The Bobcats most recently took down the Minutmen of UMass on Wednesday, 10-7. Quinnipiac is led by duo Anthony Donofrio and Kyle Maves. The Pair top the team in batting at .345 and .335, respectively, while combining for 112 hits, 21 doubles, 11 triples, and 64 RBI. Donofrio also serves as the main power threat in the Bobcats lineup, recording a team-high 12 homeruns and 47 RBI on the season. Kevin Seitter is Quinnipiac’s ace, leading the pitching staff with a 3.74 ERA and 1.31 WHIP, while tossing 54 strikeouts in 65.0 innings on the mound.

Hartford Quick Hits

Hartford is looking to get back in the win column after coming up short against instate rival Central Connecticut State on Tuesday, 5-3. Chavarria, Engstrom, and Devin Kellogg paced the Hawks offense agains the Blue Devils, each driving home an RBI on the afternoon. Jackson Ciccone and Kellogg have each been swinging hot bats of late, riding seven-game hitting streaks into this weekend’s series. The duo is batting .309 over the seven-game stretch, going a combined 17-for-55 at the plate with six doubles, one home run, and 10 RBI. On the basepaths, JJ Romatzick leads the team with a perfect 5-for-5 on stolen base attempts. Engstrom proves to be the Hawks’ main power threat in the linup, blasting a career-high four round trippers on the season. Chaney has been the Hawks’ ace in the rotation, posting a 5.54 ERA and 1.49 WHIP with 29 strikeouts over 39.0 innings of work. Jack Colella who serves as the teams’ primary closer leads the Hawks’ pitching staff with a 3.38 ERA and 0.90 WHIP over 13.1 innings of relief.
