THE GAME
Hartford will be playing the seventh game of a nine-game home stand, hosting Saint Joseph for a seven-inning game.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
USJ will be playing its first road game of the season after opening the season with 10 games in South Carolina and back-to-back home doubleheaders.
Sophomore Alyssa Roberts has been a terror offensively for the Blue Jays, hitting .562 with seven runs scored, five doubles and six RBI. Three more regulars – Kaitlyn Ouellette (.444), Jenna Zup (.410), and Jenna Masiello (.400) - are hitting at least .400 on the season.
Alyssa Roberts is the top hurler for the Blue Jays, posted a 3.18 ERA, allowing 15 earned runs over 33.0 innings with 30 strikeouts.
LAST TIME OUT
Lauren Card allowed one run over eight innings in the span of two games, and Samantha Nagel drove in the game-winning run in both games as the Hartford softball team completed the doubleheader sweep of Manhattan Sunday at the Hartford Softball Field.
A walk-off RBI sacrifice fly by Nagel capped the comeback as Hartford claimed the opener, 7-6, and then a slow grounder by Nagel in the bottom of the sixth inning provided the winning run of the nightcap.
STREAKING
Mara Sczecienski has raised her batting average more than 120 points during her current eight-game hitting streak. Buoyed by her 4-for-4 performance in the Siena nightcap, she is went from .259 to .393 over this stretch.
She began with a two-homer performance against UT-Chattanooga and has been hitting rockets ever since. During her streak, Sczecienski is 17-of-34 with four doubles, four home runs and nine RBI.
Her leadoff double in Sunday’s nightcap in the bottom of the sixth got the gamewinning rally going, and her single in the seventh inning of the opener continued the game-winning rally.
IN THE CARDS
Senior Lauren Card has seemingly rebounded from a tough 2022 season as she is leading the team with a 2.60 ERA. Her five wins have already eclipsed her career total of two coming into the season. Part of her success has been her ability to command the strike zone. In 38 innings last year, Card 13 walks and eight strikeouts. Thus far in 43 innings, she has 10 walks with 29 strikeouts.
