THE GAME

Hartford plays its last single seven-inning game of the season as its hosts Yale.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT

Yale comes into the game on a three-game winning streak after sweeping Penn in an Ivy League series this past weekend.

The Bulldogs have won nine of the last 11 games.

Sophie Woodridge leads the team in hitting with an .333 average with 11 runs scored, two doubles, four home runs and eight RBI. Willa Ferrer is the leader of the offense, however, slashing .325/.421/.550 with six doubles, four home runs and 18 RBI.

As a team Yale comes into the game with a .272 batting average.

Emma Taylor brings a team-best 4.01 ERA into the game with 39 earned runs over 68 innings. She has a team-high 45 strikeouts, and teams are hitting .279 against her.

LAST TIME OUT

The University of Hartford softball team split a doubleheader with Holy Cross, falling 1-0 in 13 innings - the longest game in school history - and rebounding with the 6-5 win in the night cap this past Thursday.

Lauren Card didn’t allow a run over 9 2/3 innings, scattering 11 hits with five strikeouts. The Crusaders scored the winning run with two outs in the 13th.

Hartford scored three runs in the fifth

inning of the second game to take the lead for the second time, and held on for the one-run win. Kelsey Galevich was the lone hitter with multiple knocks.

STREAKING

Mara Sczecienski has raised her batting average more than 140 points during her current 15-game hitting streak.

She began with a two-homer performance against UT-Chattanooga and has been hitting rockets ever since. During her streak, Sczecienski is 24-of-51 with four doubles, four home runs and 10 RBI.

Her RBI singled in the second Holy Cross game provided much-needed insurance.

IN THE CARDS

Senior Lauren Card has rebounded from a tough 2022 season as she is leading the team with a 2.30 ERA. Her five wins have already eclipsed her career total of two coming into the season.

Part of her success has been her ability to command the strike zone. In 38 innings last year, Card 13 walks and eight strikeouts. Thus far in 54 innings, she has 13 walks with 35 strikeouts.

NEXT ON TAP

Hartford travels to Simmons Saturday for a noon doubleheader.
