SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
After a three-game road trip to start the season, the Hawks make their 2022 home debut at Al-Marzook Field, taking on in-state foes Sacred Heart on Wednesday night. LAST TIME OUT Hartford dropped a 3-0 decision at Quinnipiac last Saturday. The Bobcats took an early 2-0 lead in the opening quarter of an hour, before converting on a penalty kick in the second half to take home the win. Freshman midfielder Anthony Sansone paced the offense with three shots. Junior goalkeeper Rotem Fadida tallied nine saves on the afternoon.
SHOT STOPPER Fadida has showcased his shot stopping abilities this year, sitting second in Division I with 24 saves on the season. Fadida also has recorded 8.33 saves per game, the highest mark across Division I. In three seasons with the Hawks, Fadida has tallied 113 saves and a 0.686 save percentage.

TODAY’S MATCH
After falling in their opening two contests to start the year, the Pioneers bounced back with a 2-0 victory against Holy Cross last Saturday. Javier Lopez Cayuela, who recorded a goal and an assist against the Crusaders, leads the team with three points. Justin Siegel is the primary netminder for Sacred Heart, playing nearly every minute in goal for the Pioneers. He boasts a .545 save percentage and a 1.70 goals against average.
The 2022 Hartford men’s soccer roster features 16 newcomers to the team, joining 12 returners from last season’s roster. In the season opener against CCSU, Joaquin Gonzalez Mendoza, Nicholas Castrovinci, Dylan Jessop, Devan Jessop, Jack Merrill, Kellijah Morgan, Anthony Sansone and Jayden Castro made their Hartford debuts. Since then, Jake Reynolds made his first appearance in a Hawks jersey against Quinnipiac.

Mike Kulas, who joined the Hawks in 2011, begins his first season as the Interim Head Coach of the Hartford Men’s soccer team after serving 11 seasons as the team’s assistant coach in 2022. Since landing at Hartford, Kulas has led Hartford to 78 victories, including the second-most wins in program history (13) in 2013. The Hawks have been on the doorstep of reaching the NCAA Tournament several times during that stretch, making five trips to the America East Tournament’s title match in 2011, 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2019. Kulas’ contributions to player development both on and off the field have been substantial during his time at Hartford. He has guided 29 student-athletes to AllConference distinction and 14 to NSCAA regional awards. In the classroom, Hartford’s men’s soccer student-athletes have combined for a total of 21 Hawks have taken home America East All-Academic Team honors, while Anthony LoBello, a 2016 graduate, became the Hawks’ first CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree since 2009.
