TODAY’S MATCH-UP

The Hartford softball team continues its 2022 campaign on Tuesday with a rescheduled midweek doubleheader against Holy Cross. The orinigal date for this match-up was slated for March 17, but due to prior poor fild conditions it was postponed to tomorrow. First pitch from the Hartford softball field is set for 2:30 p.m.

INSIDE THE SERIES

The all-time series between Harford and Holy Cross is in control of the Hawks. The Hawks have a commanding 23-11 record against the Crusaders. The teams last met in a doubleheader back in May of 2019. The result would end in a split as Hartford took game one, 2-1, while Holy Cross shut out the Hawks in game two, 1-0.

SCOUTING HOLY CROSS

Holy Cross comes into the match-up with a 9-20 overall record and 3-3

record in the Patriot League. After being predicted to finish sixth in the Patriot League Preseason Coaches’ Poll, the Crusaders currently sit in fourth place. In the circle, Kelly Nelson has been the leader of the Holy Cross pitching staff, leading the squad with a 2.17 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, seven wins, four shutouts, 112.2 innings pitched and 126 strikeouts. Jessica Mott has been the Crusaders main threat at the plate, slashing a team leading .311 average, 28 hits, seven doubles, 41 total bases and slugging .456% on the season. Olivia Eckelman has been a menace on the basepaths, swiping a team leading seven stolen bases.

LEAGUE LEADERS

At the plate, senior Haley Cassidy has been one of the most disciplined batters in the entire America East. Making her opposition work the count, she has drawn 11 walks to rank second in the league. Sophomore Chandler Mitchell has been showing

4 HARTFORD HAWKS // #FLYHIGH

off her wheels, lacing two triples on the season to place her second in the conference.

POWER THREAT

Senior Kelsey Galevich and junior Mara Sczecienski are among the top-10 in the league for slugging percentages. Posing a solid extrabase threat for any opposing pitcher, posting a .583 and .574 percentage, respectively. Hartford’s bats have been showing a lot of power so far this season. Senior Emma Curry, Galevich, Sczecienski and freshman Olivia Wolk are all tied for the team lead with three homeruns a piece.

LAST TIME OUT

On April 2-3, Hartford took on UMass Lowell in a three-game set to open up its 2022 America East slate. The Hawks dropped both games on day one, losing game one, 8-0, and falling in game two, 9-4,

before falling in game three, 8-3. Sczecienski who has been swinging a hot bat of late, continued her offensive prowess in the weekend series. Sczecienski went 4-for-9 at the dish with one double and one run scored. Freshmen Samantha Ganaden and Wolk were the main run producers in the series finale on Sunday. Combining for two of the teams three runs off of a solo homerun by Wolk and RBI double from Ganaden.

NEXT ON TAP

The Hawks return to the diamond on Wednesday at Dartmouth to compete against the Big Green in a midweek doubleheader. First pitch from the Dartmouth Softball Park is set for 3 p.m.
