TODAY’S MATCH-UP
The Hartford softball team continues its 2022 season facing off with UAlbany in a three-game weekend set. First pitch from the Harford Softball Field on Friday is set for 3 p.m.
SPREAD RESPECT GAME
Saturday’s game will be the America East Spread Respect Initiative game, as the conference is committed to raising awareness to ensure equality and safety for all student-athletes, coaches and fans without regard to race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation or gender identity. America East and all of its member institutions are committed to ending discrimination and injustice.
INSIDE THE SERIES
In the all-time series between Hartford and UAlbany, the Great Danes own a 46-11 advantage over the Hawks. The America East conference foes last met a season ago in a doubleheader at UAlbany where Hartford dropped game one,
9-1, before falling in game two, 2-1. In games played between the two at the Hartford Softball Field, the Great Danes hold a 20-7 edge over the Hawks. Hartford looks to get back in the win column against UAlbany, as seven of the team’s 11 wins have come in West Hartford.
SCOUTING UALBANY
UAlbany was picked to finish third in the America East Preseason Coaches’ Poll. The Great Danes come in to the weekend series with an overall record of 16-11 and 5-2 in conference play. In the circle, Wendi Hammond has been the leader of the UAlbany pitching staff. Hammond leads the team with a 1.23 WHIP, eight wins, nine complete games, one shutout, 86.2 innings pitched and 69 strikeouts. Morgan Petty has been the Great Danes main threat at the plate, slashing a team leading .386 average, 1.172 OPS, 32 hits, seven homeruns and 36 RBI. Caitlyn Mitros has been a menace on the basepaths, swiping a team leading 11 stolen bases.

SLASHING AT THE PLATE
Over the past week, Haley Cassidy has been swinging one of the hottest bats in the conference. Entering this weekend series against UAlbany, Cassidy sits on an eightgame hitting streak. During those eight games, she has gone 10-for-21 at the dish, with four doubles, one triple, one homerun and four RBI.
MENACE ON THE BASES
Hartford’s baserunners have been showing off their blazing speed all season. As a team, the Hawks have accumulated 29 stolen bases throughout the year. Chandler Mitchell has been paving the way for the Hawks, swiping seven stolen bases to rank eighth in the league. Olivia Wolk, Cassidy, and Jordan Nastos follow closely behind with five stolen bases each.
LAST TIME OUT
Last time out, Hartford took on UMBC in a weekend three-game set at home. The Hawks took down the
reigning conference champions in game one, 1-0 after Caylee English pitched a gem of a game. Throwing her first complete game shutout on the season and tallied three strikeouts over 7.0 full innings of work. After the outstanding pitching performance on Saturday the Retrievers’ bats came out swinging on Sunday. Hartford would drop the final two games of the series, losing game one, 3-1, before falling 11-3 in game two. Mara Sczecienski went yard in game two of the three-game series for her fourth homerun of the season. Cassidy continued swinging a hot bat, going 4-for-6 at the dish throughout both games on Sunday.
NEXT ON TAP
The Hawks return to the diamond on Thursday at Fairfield to compete against the Stags in a single game midweek contest. First pitch from the Fairfield Alumni Softball Field is set for 3 p.m.
