INSIDE THE SERIES

series with an overall record of 17-5 and 2-1 in conference play. In the circle, Kya Matter and Courtney Coppersmith have been the leaders of the UMBC pitching staff. Coppersmith leads the team with a .59 ERA and four saves, while Matter paves the way with 10 wins, 60.0 innings pitched and 111 strikeouts. Logan Hawker has been the Retrievers main threat at the plate, slashing a team leading .391 average, three homeruns, and slugging 58.7% on the season. Sierra Pierce has been a menace on the basepaths, swiping a team leading five stolen bases.

In the all-time series between Hartford and UMBC, the Retrievers own a 34-18 advantage over the Hawks. The America East conference foes last met a season ago on April 28, 2021 at UMBC where Hartford walked away victorious by a score of 8-1. In games played between the BEHIND THE PLATE two at the Hartford Softball Field, the Retrievers hold a slight 15-11 edge Platooning catchers for the Hawks, Emma Curry and Jordan Nastos have over the Hawks. been throwing strikes across the diamond to catch runners trying to SCOUTING UMBC advance. Curry and Nastos each rank Two-time reigning America East amongst the top-10 in the league Champions UMBC entered the season as the favorite in the America for catching baserunners stealing, sending back to the bench two and East Preseason Coaches’ Poll. IN THE ZONE

Hartford’s pitching staff of Julianna Kocenski, Caylee English, Lauren Card, and Alyssa Viscardo have combined to allow the least number of walks in the conference. The quartet have allowed only 48 free passes to first in over 180.2 innings pitched throughout the season. Card tops the America East in walks allowed, posting 10 on the year.

LAST TIME OUT

On April 6, Hartford took on Dartmouth in a midweek doubleheader on the road. The Hawks dropped both games, losing game one, 2-1, before falling in game two, 7-2. In game one, English was locked in pitcher’s duel with the Big Green’s starter, Brooke Plonka. English pitched her third complete game of the season, however, she took the loss after allowing two runs on four hits while tallying one

strikeout over 6.0 innings of work. Freshman Samantha Ganaden blasted a no doubt solo shot over the right field fence in game one, marking her first career round tripper. Mara Sczecienski and Samantha Nagel were the Hawks’ main threat at the plate in game two, each going 2-for-3 at the dish.

NEXT ON TAP

The Hawks return to the diamond on Wednesday at Yale to compete against the Bulldogs in a single game midweek contest. First pitch from the Yale Softball Field is set for 3 p.m.
