The Skyhawks are entering their first season at the Division I level as a member of the NEC. LAST MEETING The last time the Hawks matchup against an NEC foe was on Sept. 2, 2021 against Merrimack. Maia Perez (‘21) recorded five saves to record a shutout, while a pair of goals from Chloe Layne propelled Hartford to victory. Hartford returns two key assets to its offensive output from a season ago. Junior Imani Jenkins is the Hawks’ top returning scorer in 2022 after tying for the team-lead with six goals in 2021. Junior Christina Stone also looks to carry over her success from her debut season, appearing in all 16 games. The midfielder earned nine starts, tallying four points from one goal and three assists.

INSIDE THE SERIES

Friday marks the first ever meeting between Hartford and Stonehill. Against other NEC teams, the Hawks own a 23-14-5 overall record.

Stonehill enters the Fall being pick to finish tenth in the NEC Preseason Coaches’ Poll. The Skyhawks return 24 players from a 2021 squad that posted an 8-8-2 record. Highlighting the returners is Lauren Clement, who ranked second on the team with four goals. Peyton Nickerson returns as an anchor on the backline for the Skyhawks after starting in all 18 contests and tallying six points. Goalkeeper Hanna Copley returns in net, recording five wins and two shutouts a season ago.

STIFLING DEFENSE

The Hawks are coming off a solid defensive showing last season, collecting seven shutouts while posting a 0.64 goals against average, which ranked 20th in the nation. Senior Doireann Fahey and junior Victoria Foster return to anchor the back line after recording seven clean sheets a season ago. Last season, the Hawks posted the seventh best save percentage in program history of .859, allowing 11 goals while making 67 saves on the campaign.

Hartford is set to open up its 2022 campaign on Friday when they host Stonehill. Kickoff between the Hawks and Skyhawks is slated for 5 p.m. from Al-Marzook Field at Alumni Stadium.

Hartford continues its 2022 campaign this Sunday in a matinée matchup against Lafayette. Kickoff between the Hawks and Leopards is set for 12 p.m. from Al-Marzook Field at Alumni Stadium.

The winningest coach in Hartford women’s soccer history with 155 career victories, John Natale enters his 19th season as head coach of the Hawks in 2022. A fivetime America East Coach of the Year, Natale has piloted the Hawks to an NCAA Championship appearance, an America East Championship and five America East Regular-Season Championships during his impressive career at Hartford.

Natale, who became the program’s fifth head coach in 2004, has established himself as one of the elite coaches in the America East, and in the Northeast region. Leading Hartford to at least a share of the America East Regular-Season Championship in four of his past six years, Hartford’s dominance in the America East and in the region has been unmatched as of late under Natale.

Natale’s track record of success extends well beyond the collegiate level to the international level. Away from the Hawks’ campus in West Hartford, he has been actively involved in a pair of FIFA Women’s World Cups and two of the past four Olympic games in London, England (2012) and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (2016).
