CHRISTMAS CHEER AT THE CHRISTMAS SHOW AND SALE AT MARKET DRAYTON REACHING £2450 The Christmas show and sale at Market Drayton was filled with Christmas cheer, with the ring packed with people and a tremendous festive atmosphere resulting in a consistent trade throughout with 60 animals passed through the sale ring today, with 57 of these being fresh milking cows and heifers, a great selection of animals and lots of choice for every buyer. The show was well supported and we would like to thank all of the sponsors for their continued support. The show was judged by Mike Oakley of Oakley Farming; Dorrington for his champion he selected Winton Misston Betsy bred from 3 generations of cows scored Very Good or Excellent, this super heifer calved ion November and was yielding 36kg, this was the first prize heifer and then went on to be overall champion. She picked up a trophy and tumbler along with a cash prize sponsored by Genus and Lambert Lenoard and May vets; this heifer was part of a great team of heifers from Peter & Judith Waring & Son of Beverley; East Yorkshire. The hammer finally fell after much interest in this heifer at £2450 being purchased by the judge Mike Oakley. From the Waring family was another super heifer Uphall Archer Marie she calved on the 18th November and was yielding 34kg, she was purchased by Messrs Elkin of Hilderstone for £2100, another super heifer from this same consigner Winton Destry Alma yielding 30kg was secured by Oakley Farming Ltd at £1920. Other great heifers sold for £2100 for PA & JM Astley of Deytheur, Powys, this heifer Deytheur Theory Star calved on the 28 th November she was yielding 28kg, she was secured by Oakley Farming. The Reserve Champion on the day and first place cow was taken by Mark Hughes of Criggon, Shropshire with a great 3rd Calf cow Criggion Juan Grey, this cow which calved on the 7th November and was yielding 45kg. Mark Hughes received a lovely trophy sponsored by Genus. This cow caused much interest and the hammer fell with The Elkin family at £2100. Ayrshire cows sold to £1620 for S N Bailey & Partners, Beeline Swiss Araminta 3 rd this great 3rd calved cow calved on the 9th November with her 3rd calf she was secured by a local purchaser. Cross Bred Cows sold to £1400 for Ed Fair, this great little cow was secured by Messrs T Swinson & Partners of Stoke On Trent. Many great heifers sold for over £1800 today with lots of good cows sold over £1600. Heifer Calves sold to £260 for T W Eardley & Sons. Two lovely Bulls consigned today with a Limousin from PM & L Harris & Son of Alkmonton, this super bull was secured for £2000 by L P Ollier & Sons.
A great Simmental Bull from Ben Oakley sold for £1730 to a local purchaser. All Milking Heifer’s (including fault’s) heifers averaged £1406.25 All Milking Cows (including all breeds and faults) averaged £1310 Thank you to all vendors and purchasers for your continued support we really appreciate it.
