£2,250 TOPS THE TRADE THIS WEEK IN THE WEEKLY SALE AT MARKET DRAYTON A packed ring this week saw all 41 head sell to the new homes, with buyers coming far and wide to secure today’s animals. The main entries today were milking cows and heifers and a selection of bulling animals. Strength and width was in high demand and this was clear with our top priced animal. Topping the market this week was a fresh calved heifer from Messrs D B Jones, she sold giving 28kg a day, to Messrs Elkin, Hilderstone for £2,250. She was closely followed by Overton Charlie Julia a strong heifer that calved on the 28th July and was already yielding 27kilos a day she was sold by A & H M Hulme and Son and was purchased by a local buyer for £2,150. Cows were in high demand with Criggion Outback Violet from Messrs M&J&E Hughes having calved on the 1st August with her second calve she was already giving 38kilos a day selling to Messrs Vaughan, Llanrhaeadr for £1,880. Good quality animals were in high demand with strong animals averaging £1,700, and Jersey crosses averaging £1,320. Today’s sale saw a good selection of bulling and in heifers on offer from Mr D Roberts, with the majority of these being Jerseys. In calf heifers 5-6 month in calf animals sold to £870 for Messrs Warrington, Slindon. Bulling age Jerseys sold to £530 going to Messrs Manning, Lutterworth.
