FRIDAY 5TH MAY AND EARLS WERE THE CALL OF THE DAY SELLING TO 3600GNS The catalogue featured some of the worlds leading cow families and over the years David Coombes and his family have invested in their passion of the Holstein breed which resulted in this great catalogue, it’s been with a real heavy heart that Dave has decided to sell his priced possessions, to concentrate on his other main profession, being a vet. The sale was held at Market Drayton Livestock Market, Market Drayton for sale convenience and the day also featured the Lowbridge Reduction and two guests consignments from Cramar and Drointon Holsteins. The Mikali & Excellence herds made their journey from Christchurch, Dorset, the days trade was led by the stunning Mikali Savior D Erle (VG85-2yr) (Lot 86) bred from 8 generations of Very Good or Excellent cows and a daughter of the fantastic brood cow Mikali Damion Erle (EX94 -3E). This a great heifer sired by Ladys-Manor Savior ET who calved on the 17 th March and was officially giving 32.3kg daily, the hammer fell at 3600gns to Jason Booth, of Stewartstown, County Tyrone of Northern Ireland, her March born heifer calf sired by JK Eder-I Control ET, sold for 1200gns to Mr Richard Gaye for his Axminster, Devon based herd. The fantastic dam of this super heifer Mikali Damion Erle (Ex94) (3E) (Lot 85) due on the 23 rd June to Stantons Applicable with her 6th calf, this a cow that has had many admirers in the show ring, this awesome cow despite her age created a huge amount of interest and the hammer finally fell at 2500gns to Mark Lee of Cyrstalclear Holsteins of Northampton. A stunning heifer calf Mikali Doorman Erle (Lot 83a) sold for 1700gns secured by M Oakes of Beacon Farm, Birmingham, who secured several other great animals during the sale. This calf a daughter of Mikali Uno Erle ET (VG86) secured by Rob Ward of Ashford Grange for his Ringway herd based just outside Market Drayton. Other March born calves from the Erle family sold to 800gns for Mikali Control E Erle selling to AEJ &BL Harris of Alton Hampshire. The Blackrose family was the next to rise to the top at 2600gns, Mikali Fever Blackrose (VG88) bred from the great Blackrose family tracing back to the Stookey Elm Park Blackrose PI ET (EX96), this Fever calved her second calf in March and was yielding 41.2kg daily she was secured by CJR Evans of Bank Y Felin of Carmarthen who purchased several other great lots. The great Mikali Goldwyn Belle (Ex93-3E) (Lot120) realised at 2300gns, this fanatic 4 th calved cow bred from 9 generations of cows scored Very Good or Excellent who was breeding incredibly true was snapped up by a undisclosed West Wales purchaser, her heifer calf sired by Valleyville Musketeer sold for 850gns to Messrs Cope of Prees, Whitchurch. In calf Heifers sold to 1700gns to for Mikali Savoir Alure, (Lot 95) this August calving heifer was due in August to Walnutlawn Soloman, this heifer backed by 10 generations of cows scored Very Good or Excellent and a daughter off Ridgfield Dundee Alure ET (EX94) (2E) she was secured by Drointon Holsteins of Stowe, Stafford. A stunning yearling heifer Mikali Always Lila Z Red ET a red daughter of this great Lila Z family, going back to the Lylehaven Lila Z (EX-94- 8 * brood cow) this heifer was seriously flash and was purchased by Messrs CJR Evans of Carmarthen.


Buyers had come from far and wide and animals from this sale went as far north as Ayr to Devon in the South, a good amount of buyers from South Wales, as well as Northern Ireland. Thanks to Tom Brooksbank for being the guest auctioneer in this portion of the sale. Averages 27 Milking Cows & Heifers £2311.74 (including 17 heifers calves which averaged £854.82) 7 Recently Served Heifers £1480 11 Yearling Heifers £933 17 Heifer Calves £854.82 LOWBRIDGE HOLSTEINS REDUCTION PEACKED AT 2700GNS The Lowbridge reduction sale also took place on this day on behalf of Wilson and Sons of Low Bridge Farm, Droitwich , this group of cows were the entire unselected portion from the October to May calving portion. This was a great selection of cows which were full of milk and really looked the part and they were in very high demand! Grenville Wilson & family had presented the cattle well for sale and this led to a top price of 2700gns for Lowbridge Appleman Maise Red 2 nd (VG87) (Lot 43) bred from a Very Good dam she calved on the 25 th February and was yielding 48.5kg this great cow was secured by Ward Partners, Ashford, Shropshire. Lowbridge Guarni Flower 6th sold for 2000gns for this super heifer which calved on the 8th March, this heifer yielding 34.1kg (Lot 28), she was secured by Messrs Davies of Longford Farm, Market Drayton, who also secured several other great cows, including Lowbridge Guarini Bluegrass, who realised at 1950gns, calved on the 9 th April yielding 31.7kg daily, bred from 6 generations of cows scored Very Good or Excellent. Volume buyers in this section were Messrs PA &HM Wilson & Sons of Fradswell, Staffordshire. Once again these cows were sold far and wide with a good interest from West Wales. Total Average £1515.23 CONSIGNERS Roger & Dianne Steeples of Northampton consigned a good heifer which sold to 2000gns for Cramar Goldson Janet this fresh heifer bred from six generations of cows scored Very Good or Excellent, calved early April and was yielding 32kg daily, she was secured by Colin Hughes of Bany Y Felin, Carmarthen. Andrew & Debbie Mackellar consigned two great calves from their great Drointon herd, Drointon Flashy Apple Red, bred from the August family and Red in colour was sold for 1000gns to Colin Evans, Carmarthen, he also took home with him Drointon Beemer MTS Marq I, bred from 15 generations of cows scored Very Good or Excellent from their great Marq I family she also realised at 1000gns.
