Exceptional quality in both the cows and heifers forward today lead to a top price of £1750 today on 6 occassions between the cow and heifer sections. The show and sale to day was judged by Mr Tim Rees, Audlem who selected Rowmar Seaver Eve 438 from AA Winstanley & Partners as his 1st prize cow and Champion overall today in the pre sale show. This tremendous well balanced 2nd calver with an exceptional udder giving 43kg sold to JG Williams, Nantwich. She was closly followed by regular consigner of quality milkers Marsh Farms, also realising £1750 this mid January calved Mr Gold sired 2nd calver giving 30kg she sold to BG & MA Elkin, Hilderstone. Cows in general were keenly sough after today and with cows yielding up to 53kg purchasers where taking the opportinity to top up their tanks for February. 1st prize heifer was again from AA Winstanleys' Rowmar Ardent Eve 467 sold a month fresh yielding 33kg again at £1750 she went to NC Bowdler. Hot on her heels was her herd mate again at the same price she went with the Champion to JG Williams. Also taking joint top price spot today in the heifer section was a dispersal heifer from Messrs Vernon, Whitchurch and a fresh Woodmarsh Zoro heifer from Marsh Farms. Once again a quality group of Brown Swiss cows and heifers from Harold Davies, Puddington realised up to £1620 for a very fresh young cow yielding 47kg finally going home with Messrs Meddins.
British Friesian types were again in demand with a top of ÂŁ1600 for a 3 week fresh heifer giving 30kg from Messrs Moss, Betley leading the heifers and a tremendous cow from JA Evans, Tybroughton going to Hill & Davies for ÂŁ1500. All in all the heifer average held at the same level as the previous week with some light entering the dairy tunnel at the turn of the month its great to see vendors selling quality dairy cattle week after week in Market Drayton to a full ring of buyers.
