58 Dairy Cattle Hassall Brothers Auctioneer Stuart Hassall - 07495 804308/01829 260545 £1850 Tops a level Dairy Trade Heading the trade at todays sale was the 34kg fresh heifer by Woodmarsh Metallic, with a fantastic udder full of milk consigned by regular vendor RJ & RH Gadsbey, Stafford she went to a regular Cheshire buyer. Following her in the heifer trade was her herdmate at £1700 and one of a super group of heifers from Springfield Farms Ltd at the same money. This group of 5 heifers averaged £1618 with youth, milk and correctness, all qualities the buyers require. In the cow section today there were fewer foward and more could be marketed to fulfil demand. They were topped by the super 4th calver Westvalley Parocas Jill 122 VG86 at £1600 giving 40kg she was consigned by P & M Timmis and sold to NC Bowdler. Following her was another quality Brown Swiss from Messrs Davies , Puddington calved recently with her 3rd and already yielding 42kg she eventually sold to Messrs Jones, Habberley. British Friesian types were noticably in demand today with a 32kg heifer at £1480 and another from new vendor Mr & Mrs Roberts, at the same money. They were closely followed by a fantastic heifer from JWG Dalby & Sons with Ringswood Norway Bellus 7, 2 weeks calved she headed to Mr Oulton, Barthomley for £1420. With a few signs of spring this week in calf heifers are starting to come onto the market and what a quality line up we had in this section. Heading it up was CR & GE Pym, Little Barrow with their Cerri Allemar daughter at £1460 just pipping new vendor A & R Maughan to top spot with their Lars Acre Shot Trigger sired heifer realising £1450, both selling to Mr Ford. These quality in calf heifers averaged £1362 they were all due in the next month or so to either Aberdeen Angus or Holstein. There was a strong demand for them today and could this be the trend as March edges ever closer ? Trade has certainly firmed in recent weeks and remains strong for heifers and cows that are fresh and looking the business. It was great to see a full ring today for the sale and to see Stuart back in the rostrum, many thanks to Huw Evans for filling the gap during the past 2 weeks.
