After writing songs since the middle seventies I finally am (I hope) becoming a better artist. Born and raised in a small North Dakota town in a musical family and so I developed the love of music. I like to sing and accompany myself on the acoustic guitar.And I do play at the coffee bars in Fargo. The first song on the CD titled, "I am what I am," came about after always scrutinizing myself and finally trying not to be too hard on myself and just finally saying, "I am what I am" in other words, just be yourself. The second song, "Be Free" is just about finding that lost love or a new love, you know asking that special person,"will you be with me?" The third song, "She sure looks fine" simply came about from observing a beautiful women walking down the street, she tilted her head to look at her feet, etc. The fourth, "How beautiful you are" I think came about after looking at the cover of Sheryl Crows newest CD, "Co-mon,Co-mon," she looks so beautiful in the sun. "I kept on searching" is about searching for that lost love, the one that got away, etc. "The moment I met you" is that moment when you see that special one and you just know that something is there, that invisible quality known as true love. "BIO" "Bio" Born Thomas Orval Roble in a small town in North Dakota. Ever since I received my first guitar free from the local baker, Mr. Schwartz, I have enjoyed singing and playing the guitar, and ever since I first heard Elvis Presley (Teddy Bear, Don't Be Cruel, All Shook Up), Jerry Lee Lewis (Great Balls of Fire), Marty Robbins (White Sport Coat and A Pink Carnation, Streets of Larado), I have wanted to be a singer / songwriter. My music career started very early listening to my dad playing his clarinet. My dad took me along when I turned 13 years of age to play trumpet in his dance band, "The Swing Kings", which was comprised of a couple of saxophones, accordian, sometimes piano, drums, banjo, guitar, playing everything that the people could dance to, polka's, waltz's, fox trot,


two step. Playing in the old wooden dance halls, with the high stages and large dance floors. Picking up my biography where I left off from my first CD release, My Teddy Bear, released early 2000 on J-BirdRecords. After leaving the Swing Kings, I helped fill a vacancy with a local band called The Toronado's, I played guitar and we played the fair circuit, even had a "battle of the bands" contest at the state fair. That was a short lived gig and I thank all the original members for a really fine time. Then, it was off to college for a couple of years at which time I was asked to fill another vacancy playing trumpet with a group called The Churchkeys, this was a blues band and I only played a summer with them. We played many a dance hall and always packed them in. This gig too was short lived for me. From then on I pretty much just continued to play my acoustic guitar and write songs and work at putting bread and butter on the table, oh ya, I did get married too to a pretty farm girl and have two wonderful sons, and these are the ones that mostly reflect what my songs are about. Living, working, the inner pain, and the ups and downs that we all experience in life. As I begin the third chapter with the third release on the J-Bird Record label, I would like to share the lyrics to the sound clip, "Universe", because it says it best. I was working, raising a family, and writing songs in my home town. I felt and knew I had to leave if I was going to pursue a singer/songwritercareer. My situation was ideal for writing songs but I also knew I had to move on. High in the Universe And deep down in the sea Such a vast area to explore I'm telling you I'm leaving town And I'm dying inside I've got to leave This very day So much to learn and see I must make the move today Won't pass this way again What lies ahead must be found by me I can't stand it no more I can't stand it no more Time to change and pick My new destination Well I did move and after many years of living I have finally gained the courage to perform in public and on stage. So I'm happy and everything is cool. I have been playing the coffee house and cafe circuit and just having a great time. No, I haven't quit my "day job" yet, but hopefully soon!
