Dear Rider Welcome to this year’s Haute Route Alpe d’Huez. We’ve been working hard behind the scenes to make sure everything is in place so you can live an experience of a lifetime around the iconic Alpe d’Huez. Part of this process is the publication of this roadbook. Its purpose is to provide a comprehensive guide outlining all the information you will need during the 3 days, both on and off the bike.

Event Overview The second running of the Haute Route Alpe d’Huez offers an exceptional course based on and around the most famous climb in all of cycling – Alpe d’Huez. The course features 7 categorised climbs with a total of 237km and 8735m of climbing over the three days.

The Lanterne Rouge for the Haute Route Alpe d'Huez will be Adrian Hill. His role is to help the riders at the back of the peloton get over the finish line inside the time limit each day. You should view him as a friend rather than a foe, as he will be there to

It is important to be aware of all the Rules & Regulations of the Haute Route which include timekeeping & rankings, time limits, equipment allowed, safety, medical and personal assistance, anti-doping and other important topics.

The following equipment is mandatory and must be presented by every rider during registration to pass the Equipment Safety Check prior to collecting your bib and registration pack: • Hard-shell helmet • Long sleeve thermal jacket • Thermal overshoes • Leg warmers • Full finger winter gloves

Sustainability
• Respect traffic rules at all times (traffic lights, stop signs, etc.) • Ride on the right hand side of the road • Respect traffic signs of the Haute Route • Respect other road users (not involved in the event) • Wear a hardshell helmet at all times • Wear your bib on your back • Position your frame plate on the front of your handlebars
Solo / Duo
All riders taking part in the Duo competition will NOT be ranked in the Solo rankings. The Duo rankings will be established based on the time of the second rider of each team on each stage.
By entering the Haute Route, you commit to respect the environment and the natural areas visited. It is strictly forbidden to leave any type of waste (paper, plastic packaging etc) on the course. Protest
Riders wishing to report infringements, contest timings or report something must collect and fill in a protest form from the Info Point within two hours of finishing the stage. Decisions communicated to the concerned riders after the evening briefing.

Safety & Support Organisation

Technical Assistance Assistance on the course • Mavic is the only party authorised to provide assistance on the course outside of designated feed stations. Riders receiving outside assistance - mechanical or otherwise - are liable to penalties and ultimately disqualification • Every participant is expected to be selfsufficient in case of a puncture If you suffer a mechanical, please be patient and inform the driver of the closest course vehicle - they will inform Mavic. Assistance in the event village and at the start line: Mavic will have a booth at each event village and start line. The team will attempt to resolve any mechanical issues. 10
Replacement parts, spares and accessories: Mavic will not provide spare parts. Although there may be some bike shops close to the course, we recommend you bring specific spares including: • A rear-mech hanger • Allen keys specific to your bike • Spare brake blocks (front and rear) • Inner tubes with the correct length valves and CO2 cans or a pump

Event Village in Alpe d'Huez All riders are required to register at the event village on Thursday 12th of July in Alpe d’Huez between 2pm and 7pm. The village will be located at the Palais des Sports Alpe d’Huez, 70 Avenue des Brandes, 38750, Huez.
How to get there
AIRPORT Closest nearest Airports are Lyon StExupery, Geneva-Cointrin and Grenoble
SHUTTLE Book the official shuttle to and fron Lyon StExupery. Drop off/Pick up at Event Village.
CAR Drive from home or rent a car from the airport you arrive at
PUBLIC TRANSPORT Take the train to Grenoble and continue with a taxi or rental car to Alpe d’Huez.

Registration Day Village Arrival – The event village will be open from 2pm to 7pm. Before exploring the village and visiting partners’ and exhibitors’ booths, make sure you follow the steps outlined below
VILLAGE ARRIVAL
Bike Park – Use the secure bike park while you complete the steps below. Equipment Check – Present the following mandatory equipment to the organisation, before being allowed to proceed to bib collection: Hard-shell helmet, long sleeve thermal jacket, full-finger winter gloves, thermal overshoes, leg warmers. Bib Collection – Collect your bib and Haute Route Alpe d'Huez registration pack (you will need one form of ID). Bike Plate – Once you’ve collected your registration pack, attach your bike plate on to your handlebars. It is forbidden to alter, cut or fold your bike plate. Briefing – Once you have completed all these steps you can explore the event village before attending the first mandatory briefing at the event village. This takes place at 7pm at the village.

N.B: The riders’ briefing will be followed by the event support briefing mandatory for friends and family following the event by car. Pasta Party – To start the Haute Route the right way, enjoy the Pasta Party which will take place at the village after the briefing. Finally, don’t forget to pick up your bike if you used the bike park. There is no secure bike park overnight.

What to take with you While every rider will have their own personal preference, this is a suggested list of what to take on the bike and in your backpack (dropped off at the start/collected at the finish of each stage):

Massage Process • Book your massage at the Info Point as soon as possible after you cross the finish line. • You will receive a massage ticket indicating your allotted time slot for your massage. • Shower before massage. • Arrive at the massage area at your assigned time with your ticket; late comers and riders without a ticket will not be treated. • Bring your towel to place on the massage table. • Massages last 15 minutes.

Alpe d'Huez Located in the Massif of l’Oisans, near the Meije (3984m), the Barre des Écrins (4102m) and the Italian border, Alpe d’Huez is the mountain town to visit in the summer. From the town at 1860m to the Pic Blanc at 3300m which has a panoramic view across 1/5th of France, the resort is a true outdoor playground. With its southern facing slopes and generous sun exposure, Alpe d’Huez offers perfect conditions for holidays as a couple, with your family or with your friends. not to be forgotten and make Alpe d’Huez a go to location. Indoors and outdoors, competitive or just for fun, there are a host of sporting activities that can offer you hours of fun as well as adrenaline fuelled moments. From mountain biking and road cycling to via ferrata, mountain hikes, parapente, aviation, horseback riding, a pool and an outdoor ice rink there is something for everybody. You mustn't forget also the latest attraction, a year round outdoor luge slope on rails that is 1km long and that offers a great afternoon of fun for everyone! Without a doubt, Alpe d’Huez is more than just a simple holiday!
