t’s seven days into 2022 and Anuel AA has one very lofty goal. “My resolution is to be number one for the rest of the year!” the 29-year-old Latin trap artist declares. 365 days of being numero uno isn’t necessarily realistic, but as his track record shows, the Puerto Rican musician — née Emmanuel Gazmey Santiago — has consistently continued to defy the odds. How so? He was younger than even Justin Bieber when, at age 14, he was discovered by Rick Ross’ Maybach Music after recording and releasing music on Soundcloud. This led to collaborations with some of the world’s hottest hip-hop artists, including Meek Mill, Lil Wayne, and DJ Khaled. It also led to the sound that would define him: a unique mix of reggaeton, trap, hip-hop, and rap. But while he was becoming one of the most in-demand Latin crossover artists, his personal life hit a stalemate; he was arrested on gun possession charges and sentenced to 30 months in federal prison. Yet, this did not break him. In fact, on July 17, 2018, just hours before his release from jail, he also debuted his very first album, Real Hasta la Muerte (Real Until Death), which would go on to become No. 1 on Apple Music worldwide and in less than a month, earn Platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of American (RIAA). He didn’t stop there. All three consecutive releases — 2020’s Emmanuel, Los Dioses (Gods), a 2021 collaboration with Ozuna, and his most recent studio album, Las Leyendas Nunca Mueren (Legends Never Die) — would hit that sweet top spot; the latter also debuted at No. 1.. So when Anuel tells me his plans for global domination during our early January Zoom chat, I’m confident he’ll succeed. After all, he’s made every other one of his dreams come true. “I’m growing a lot, working on myself, working on being a businessman. There’s a lot of big things going on. I have big goals, big mountains to climb, but I ain’t scared of that. I’m trying to surpass my own limits. That’s the main goal. [My other goal] is to keep pushing this album, for it to get bigger and bigger and to maintain number one for as long as possible.” He’s referring to Las Leyendas Nunca Mueren, which dropped on Nov. 26, 2021, his 29th birthday. The 15-track album, his fourth, was crafted during the pandemic and predominantly built around his love of sports and the legends who inspired him, with a 10-minute introduction called “Real Hasta La Muerte” that pays homage to the celebrities and close friends who have shown him their support. He also created album covers that paid tribute to his heroes, including Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Floyd Mayweather, and

Conor McGregor, with accompanying music videos — which he directed — sharing their most iconic moments. In the most recent, “Subelo” with Myke Towers and Jhay Cortez, Anuel re-creates Jordan’s college life in North Carolina, the time before he made it big in the NBA. But to simply say that Anuel’s album is about the greats would be missing the nuances, the point he’s personally making. This is his own message of hope, a reminder not to give up when life gets tough, that anything is possible if you put in the work and have a vision. “This new album is really special, and I’m still really excited about it,” he admits. “The concept, it just speaks to me; mixing music with sports, my story with sports. You see me [throughout the album] when I drop music, trying to stay number one, trying to stay on top. That’s me. It’s like when I used to watch Kobe [Bryant] finish a game: The game is tied, there’s only six seconds left and Kobe is about to score the last point. This is me trying to score the last point. Or when I see [Conor] McGregor fight. That’s me in the octagon, fighting for my life, trying to stay on top, trying to be that person that people believe in and need me to be.” His favorite tracks all showcase different parts of his journey, the “phase I’m going through now in my life.” On “McGregor,” his ode to the UFC champion, he raps “Maldito ídolo, genio! ¡Mundial, ídolo supremo!” (“Damn idol, genius! World idol supreme!”). “When I listen to that song, people might think I’m bragging about myself, but it’s really a song I feel in my heart,” he admits, noting that he also identifies with “Una Palabra” (“One Word”) and “Última Canción” (“Last Song”). “[I really identify with] “McGregor” in an ‘I’m the man’ kind of way, and “Una Palabra” in a more human, vulnerable way. They’re all me; I know I can accomplish anything I put my mind and body into.” He’s definitely put in the work and, as a result, is living out some unexpected fantasies. Because of his athlete-focused album and some incredible work from his behind-the-scenes team, he’ll be playing in the Celebrity All-Star game during NBA All-Star weekend on February 18 (where, though he’s “Miami Heat all day” since he’s been based in the Magic City for the past two years, he’s hoping to meet his hero, Brooklyn Nets forward Kevin Durant), and was just part of the NBA’s 75th anniversary campaign that debuted in January as well. And to further showcase how much the sport means to him, he recently even bought his first team, becoming owner and sponsor of the Capitanes de Arecibo of Puerto Rico’s National Superior Basketball League, as well as the main sponsor of his home country’s Women’s National Superior League. @hauteliving HAUTE LIVING 17

“I’ve been playing basketball since I was a little kid, and so owning a team in Puerto Rico is like a dream come true for me, and it’s going to open doors for a lot of people to chase their dreams, and have more opportunities to make it. Since I bought the team, Bad Bunny bought a team, too. We’re growing more and more, and the goal is to have more Latino players in the NBA,” Anuel says. He rattles off a list of athletes who listen to his tunes while they’re getting pumped to hit the court, diamond, or octagon, including the UFC’s Jorge Masvidal, the NBA’s Luka Dončić, and the MLB’s Robinson Cano and David Ortiz, saying, “All of the Spanish athletes are showing their support. It’s taken a while, but the world is finally starting to put respect on the Latino name. I feel really proud of being Latino and having all of these big legends around me in sports that really support me, too.” While his first love is basketball, he stresses that the relationship between sports and music he’s promoting isn’t confined to b-ball alone. “Sports and music are the same,” he explains. “It doesn’t matter where you come from, what language you speak — sports and music bring us all together.” He adds, “When you see Mayweather, McGregor, Drake — when they become champions, when they win Grammys — everybody asks them, ‘How did you do that?’ They say the same thing: ‘Hard work and dedication.’ When you put hard work and dedication together, the result is always going to be a win.”

I

t’s a rainy day in the Dominican Republic, but it doesn’t matter much to Anuel AA. He’s currently hunkered down recording the Deluxe edition of Las Leyendas Nunca Mueren, which is slated for a midyear release, and while it’s hard work, it’s rewarding, too. Nothing can wipe the smile off his face. Even when his 6-year-old son, Pablo (mom is ex-wife Astrid Cuevas) calls on repeat, he just laughs... and finally answers. Life is good. But (there’s always a but). “It’s nice now, but there’s been a lot of tough times, too,” he admits. He grew up in Carolina, Puerto Rico, to a wealthy family: His father, José Gazmey, was vice president of the Puerto Rican division of Sony Music Entertainment’s A&R department. But, when Anuel was 15, his dad lost his job and he, in turn, turned to the streets. Anuel has since had a failed marriage, as well as a broken engagement, as of last March, to girlfriend of three years, Colombian singer Karol G. And then, of course, there was his prison time, the worst — but perhaps also the best — thing that has ever happened to him. “When I went to prison, I really thought I messed everything up,” he divulges. “For the first six months, I stopped working. I had no power, no will to write. But then, new inmates started coming in, telling me, ‘Yo, you in the streets. Everybody is listening to your music, and that is not a joke. Nobody’s forgotten about you.’ And little by little, I started to feel better, music-wise. I could start writing again. I started feeling myself again through the music. I was writing every day. The system wasn’t holding me

back, my mind state was good. I was really straight.” The credit, he says, can go to two things. “Music saved my life,” he declares, continuing, “They say God works in mysterious ways, and this was one of those occasions. I started to live through faith. I read a lot and started to learn more. The way I was seeing things changed. I knew that something big was going to happen even though I didn’t know at the time what it was. And when I came out [of prison], I just evolved. I had to evolve in order to be a better person and a mainstream artist. Now I know how to keep that balance in life and find the balance between street music and commercial music.” Anuel believes that everything he went through was necessary to get him to the spot he’s in today: not even yet 30 years old, with the world at his fingertips. Would he have liked to avoid jail time? Definitely. But was it necessary to make him into a man he could be proud of? That’s a resounding ‘yes,’ too. “I don’t regret anything, for real,” he swears. “I’m the human being I am right now thanks to everything I’ve lived through, been through, gone through. [Prison] made me stronger. I learned how to live by myself, too. It turned me into a survivor. I thought I was a man [back then], I thought I knew everything about the world, but I didn’t. But that’s when I did learn about life, about being a real man, about responsibilities and priorities. I don’t regret it, because it had to happen.” Anuel says that this time helped put things into perspective, and that he slowly began to shed his younger, less mature self like a second skin. “It really helped me focus and to realize the things that really matter in life. There’s a lot of things that come with the fame and the money that don’t really matter, that you can get caught up in. I had to dedicate myself to the work, to having a vision, and to not letting anything get in the way.” This includes beef with rivals such as Puerto Rican rapper Cosculluela. Anuel famously released the widely criticized diss track “Intocable,” which resulted in the cancellation of a major show and which he has called “the worst mistake of my career.” But it was part of his learning curve. Today, he says of his feud, “That was three years ago. That’s not a thing anymore. I don’t know what that guy is doing now. I don’t even waste my time with that kind of stuff anymore; I’m in another phase entirely. Those were the things I used to do back then, but not now. I’m playing in the NBA celebrity game, my new album is doing great, my personal life is great. There’s too many good, big things happening in my life to pay attention to small things, so I’m not sweating the small stuff.” Seriously, though, why would he need to focus on the past when the future is so bright? And by “bright” I mean that guys like Jamie Foxx have come a-calling. The A-list actor has not only helped Anuel to secure a YouTube docu-series, but the two are also in talks about creating a movie based on his life.

Enquiring minds want to know: How did these two even meet? Through a mutual love of luxury cars — and a man who sells them, as it happens. “I met Jamie through RD [Whittington], a close friend of mine who sells me cars. And anyone who knows me knows how much I love cars — I’m always posting about customizing them on Instagram. RD is Jamie’s best friend. So he just put us together one day, and we started vibing. He’s treated me like a king since the first moment we met. He’s really respectful, humble, and funny.” Anuel repeatedly shakes his head as if he’s still in awe of the situation, and he very well might be. After all, it isn’t every day that an Oscar winner wants to tell the story of your life. To this he declares, “It’s been a roller coaster! But to be honest, the stuff that’s happened throughout my life really feels like a movie.” That said, fans shouldn’t expect a biopic, or even a biographical TV series, any time in the immediate future. “It’s going to take time to build into whatever it’s going to be. We’re really close, but we’re not there yet. I’ve had all these offers, but I haven’t said yes to anything fully yet, because whatever I end up doing, I want it to be legendary. I want it to be perfect. It might be a series, it might be a movie, it might be two movies. Whatever it’s going to be, it will have a lot of action, a lot of drama,” he says. Anuel will allow that his “whole life” will be the focus of said project. “You’re going to see the real story of somebody who ended up in the streets that wasn’t supposed to be there, who came from a good family but fell on hard times; a lion who ended up in the water with the sharks. He was not supposed to make it, but I made it — I’m here.” Everything can be explained in one phrase, in his opinion, and that is ‘God’s plan.’ “[If the bad things hadn’t happened to me], I wouldn’t be on the journey I’m on now. That’s why I’m telling you, God’s plan is perfect. I don’t feel fazed by anything now. I know that no matter what happens, I’m going to be OK.” The proof lies in the numbers, the records sold, his five Latin AMA awards, a Latin Billboard award, seven Premios Juventuds, three Premio Lo Nuestros and one Heat Latin Music Award. It is playing in Celebrity AllStar, in attention from Jamie Foxx, in his 10-plus luxury cars (his favorite of which is a Lamborghini SVJ). Further proof is in his 20-30 tattoos, the visible scars that highlight his journey in indelible ink, including the most recent, the words “Fear of God” on his face and a giant, unfinished Japanese samurai mask on his chest. “It represents the soldier than I am. I’m fearless, no matter what,” he says. And a legend in the making, perhaps, just like those athletes he so admires. One way or another, one day or another, he may just join their ranks. So watch this space, UFC fighters. “You might just see me out there in the octagon one day,” he confides. You’ll probably see me there, fighting.” Said like a warrior. @hauteliving HAUTE LIVING 21

THE NEW HAUTE SPOT Globally acclaimed Israeli restaurant, HaSalon, is curating a dining experience like no other in Miami Beach. BY ADRIENNE FAUROTE

Israeli restaurant, HaSalon, down to Miami Beach on the heels of its other successful South Florida openings like Carbone and Sadelle’s Coconut Grove. HaSalon, renowned for its energetic atmosphere, transports you to the Mediterranean through both the cuisine and attitude — and is quickly becoming Miami’s newest hot spot. Formerly known as the iconic Miami Beach institution China Grill for over two decades, HaSalon found its new home on the corner of Washington Avenue, making the space more legendary than ever. Miami is the latest city to join the HaSalon brand, joining sister cities Tel Aviv, New York City, and Ibiza. Made for Miami indeed, HaSalon has garnered the attention of both locals and visitors for an outstanding, modern menu and an evening intricately curated to provide guests with a unique dining experience. “Everyone who comes to HaSalon for the first time tells me that they’ve never had an experience like it,” says HaSalon founder Eyal Shani, the beloved chef, MasterChef judge, and restaurateur with over 30 successful ventures to his name. “The mood gets more and more energetic and convivial as the night goes on and guests get comfortable, but one thing never changes: the line of cooks working very quietly, very consciously, on their food.”

Haute Living: HaSalon has curated a dining vibe like no other in Miami. How did you achieve this? Jeff Zalaznick: It is the first high-energy fine dining destination in Miami that unites celebration with culinary excellence. There are a lot of fun restaurants, but very often, the food is overlooked; that is why we have focused on creating a high-energy fine dining experience that delivers both the fun and the food at the highest level. HaSalon is simply legendary. HL: Why did you pinpoint Miami as the latest city to open HaSalon? JZ: It is one of a kind and the best in class, which is the only way to describe it. It is vibrant, convivial, luxurious, and energetic, just like this incredible city. I fell in love with the food and with the overall concept of HaSalon after spending some time in Tel Aviv a few years ago. The way the restaurant values unparalleled cuisine and a sense of fun felt very Major Food Group to me. I knew instantly that we could do extraordinary things together and that it was a concept that was born in Israel but made for Miami. HL: In your own words, how would you describe HaSalon to someone going for the first time? JZ: If you like great food and you like to party, come for the second seating. If you like great food and don’t want to party, come for the first seating. There is something for everyone as long as they enjoy eating the highest caliber Mediterranean and Israeli food in the world.

Making magic by merging tattoo art with hyper horology. BY MARTIN GREEN

likes to seek out like-minded individuals to collaborate with. One of them is celebrity tattoo artist Dr. Woo. He applied his magic touch to the Monotourbillon, crafted from Eon gold and limited to just eight pieces. Haute Time sat down with Dr.Woo to talk with him about this exciting collaboration. Haute Time: What inspired you to become a tattoo artist? Dr. Woo: I was first inspired by the rebellious idea of doing something that, at that time, was very taboo — outside the circle of what was accepted. Tattooing was something that would allow me to push boundaries and to force myself and others to rethink how culturally we can work and be successful. I also wanted to do something atypical, that would allow me to feel free and to build something out of my creativity. HT: How do you approach the design of a tattoo? DW: I’m a very collaborative tattoo artist. Every creation is referenced with the client’s idea. It’s not only about my own style. I always take the time to get a clear vision of what the client has in mind before I interpret it and turn it into my art. My ultimate goal is to make the customer happy and proud. HT: What is the difference between a good tattoo and a great tattoo? DW: I think a great tattoo artist isn’t just able to put a good tattoo on skin but has the whole portfolio of hard work and tattoo culture. Tattoos have a very colorful history and tattooing is a culturally significant job that has been around since the dawn of time. Therefore, a great tattoo is the result of a technically proficient artist who understands the richness of its culture and has spent time learning and working with other tattoo artists. 28 HAUTE LIVING hautetime.com

HT: What made you collaborate with Roger Dubuis? DW: Hyper horology reminds me of tattoos years ago, meaning an exclusive world that not everyone can enter. But I’m always eager to learn and to push my own boundaries. I wanted to understand how to express myself in the universe of fine watches. Roger Dubuis was a natural fit with me: The Maison is creative and wants to break the rules. Most important, I was looking for a high-level watchmaking partner able to create timepieces that last forever and always keep their integrity. HT: How did the collaboration go? DW: At first, I was intimidated. But the Roger Dubuis team was very collaborative, open-minded, and eager to bring our visions together. Along the way we never had problems with communication or clashing ideas. “No” was never an answer and in that sense our back-and-forths were eyeopening. We were able to see beyond the technical limits and bend them. It has been an exciting challenge and such a beautiful way to bring this masterpiece to life. I’m so glad we started this collaboration! HT: What are you most proud of in regard to the watch? DW: I like to remember that this timepiece has brought together people from different backgrounds, working toward the same aim of creating a unique work of art. My pride reached its peak the day I actually laid my hands on the Excalibur Dr. Woo Monotourbillon for the first time. At that very moment I realized how truly unique, exquisite and highend this masterpiece is.

style of its own, guided by nine principles. The first watch made accordingly was the iconic 44GS, which was launched in 1967. Today, this instantly recognizable style has fans all around the world and led Grand Seiko to become one of the most renowned names in high-end watchmaking. To mark the 55th anniversary of the “Grand Seiko Style,” the brand launched a Hi-Beat GMT model, limited to 1,200 pieces. This timepiece looks precisely like what it is: a refined sports watch made with care, craftsmanship, and an eye for detail. For both the case and bracelet, Grand Seiko used high-intensity titanium. The advantage of this material is that it is not only about 30 percent lighter than steel but it is also hypoallergenic. However, it’s more challenging to process, making it all the more exceptional that Grand Seiko’s artisans were able to apply the renowned Zaratsu polishing on this material. It results in perfect reflections of light, highlighting the powerful design of the watch. Grand Seiko fitted the watch with caliber 9S86. This is a so-called hi-beat movement, meaning that it runs at a rate of 36,000 vibrations per hour, or 10 beats per second. Precise calibration makes it possible to have an accuracy of +5 to -3 seconds per day, with a power reserve of 55 hours. The movement can be admired through the sapphire insert in the caseback, yet the oscillating weight demands all the attention. Thanks to an advanced anodic oxidation process, it has been given a unique gold tone, perfectly complementing the Grand Seiko lion emblem. On the front, it is the blue GMT hand and details that add a dash of sportiveness to an immaculate dial. Keen on details, Grand Seiko paid particular attention to the design and polishing of both the hour markers and the hands, ensuring lasting beauty and legibility simultaneously. This fitting tribute to the 44GS has been available in the Grand Seiko boutiques and at selected retail partners since January of 2022.

preference for one of Richard Mille’s RM 027 Tourbillons, but his passion for the brand goes beyond that. With the RM 35-03 Automatic Rafael Nadal, this elite athlete has added a fourth timepiece to the collection, and it is as impressive as it is innovative. “In our respective domains, we both seek to achieve excellence,” says Nadal. “We speak the same language, Richard and I. We’re both passionate about our work. Keeping alive this flame of passion for what we do each day is essential to me. Even though I don’t wear the RM 35 models in competition, it is heart warming to feel the confidence that he and the teams show in allowing me to participate in this singular adventure.” Richard Mille also packed its latest watch with innovations. The new RM 35-03 is the first to benefit from a completely new system for movement winding, which was under development for three years. In essence, it is the next step in the evolution of the variable geometry rotor. Where that one needed to be adjusted by a Richard Mille watchmaker, the new butterfly rotor, as it is called, can be adjusted by simply pushing a button. This way, the winding characteristics can be matched by their activities, ensuring the optimum performance of their timepiece. The RM 35-03 is a robust-looking watch, not only because of its size but also thanks to the design of the bezel. It is not smooth, as is customary with many of Richard Mille’s creations, but consists of two levels machined with great care and precision. The watch is available in two different versions: The first combines white Quartz TPT and Carbon TPT with a case band in Carbon TPT, while the second unites blue Quartz TPT with a white Quartz TPT case band. Both are powered by Caliber RMAL2, which not only features the patented butterfly rotor but also comes with a skeletonized baseplate and bridges in grade-5 titanium, Richard Mille’s signature function selector, as well as two mainspring barrels. This makes the RM 35-03 Automatic Rafael Nadal a true horological athlete, sharing the same spirit as one of the best tennis players the world has ever seen. @hautetime HAUTE LIVING 31

By wearing this watch, you’ll always have a piece of me and her when you check the time.” The pink theme continues onto the caseback, where Butler’s personal logo is emboldened as a nod to the infamous “Miami Vice” series and the vibrancy of the city he now calls home. A symbol of both Butler’s individuality and fine watchmaking, the Heuer 02T COSC movement is housed in a striking 45-millimeter black PVD titanium grade-5 case,

+Celebrating 10 Years

of Hublot Loves Art Hublot reveals limited-edition timepieces during Miami Art Basel.

TO CELEBRATE A DECADE OF ITS LOVE OF ART, HUBLOT

hosted an evening like no other at the luxurious Faena Forum Miami Beach during Art Basel this year. It was an unforgettable star-studded party and unique immersive art exhibition for VIP guests to enter — and celebrate — the dynamic world that is Hublot. For the first time ever in Hublot Loves Art history, Hublot brought together six of its famed art and design ambassadors, including Samuel Ross, Shepard Fairey, Maxime Plescia-Buchi, Marc Ferrero, Richard Orlinski, and Hublot Design Prize 2021-winner Mohammed Iman Fayaz to unveil limited-edition timepieces. “Hublot has been showing its love of art for 10 years now, and how rich our art collaborations have been! We are thrilled to get the chance to be back in Miami to celebrate this milestone with our artist and ambassador family,” says Ricardo Guadalupe, CEO of Hublot. “With Hublot Loves Art and our five artist partners, this 10th anniversary is also an expression of gratitude for the work we’ve accomplished together — a tribute to their multiple perspectives on time, with timepieces and creations reflecting how they have fused their creativity with ours through art.” Staged in the iconic amphitheater of the Faena Forum, the circular room was the perfect canvas to bring to life the art of fusion — Hublot’s distinctive philosophy — and showcase the new, stunning timepieces created by the artists. Each new timepiece embodied both the brand’s impeccable craftsmanship and DNA, and the artist’s vision of the piece. 34 HAUTE LIVING hautetime.com

As a Hublot Art Family Member since 2018, Shepard Fairey designed the Hublot Classic Fusion Chronograph Shepard Fairey. “My most recent Hublot collaboration features a mandala, which is a symbol of harmony, unity, and wholeness in many different cultures,” explains Fairey. “Art is about problem-solving on many levels: making an appealing visual, working to overcome technical challenges, and conveying a message powerfully. I was very happy that the Hublot team was motivated to help me achieve all of those things the way I envisioned.” Maxime Plescia-Buchi, a Hublot Art Family Member since 2016, created a full retrospective showing the design evolution of pieces from the Sang Bleu collection. “Seven years of collaboration, and it’s still a rich learning and sharing process,” admits Plescia-Buchi. “Every time, [we] go beyond what is expected, by our fans and by ourselves, too. Each release proves to be greater than the sum of its parts. That is the magic of true collaboration on a vision. It feels we’re still only getting started!” For the last two years, Marc Ferrero has been part of the Hublot Art Family. He created The Big Bang Marc Ferrero One Click: “It’s like fusing different artistic inspirations, different graphic styles (cubism, impressionism, surrealism, figurative) and merging them into a moment in time where they would never have met otherwise,” he says. “The same goes for the work we do together with Hublot; being part of this Hublot Art Family is a great source of inspiration and pride in itself.” And Richard Orlinski, a Hublot Art Family Member since 2017, designed the full Classic Fusion retrospective, including

colored ceramics. “Being back here in Miami with Hublot has a very special meaning for me, as it is here that we announced our collaboration back in 2017,” Orlinski reveals. “Being able to fuse my sculptures and my pop take on art with watchmaking timepieces is priceless. Being here together with my fellow Hublot family is a privilege.” But, that’s not it: In an exclusive reveal, Samuel Ross, renowned fashion designer, creative director, artist, and recent recipient of an honorary doctorate degree in arts, alluded to a 2022 timepiece collaboration with Hublot, currently being designed between Nyon and London in a top-secret process. “With Hublot, everything started in 2019 when they rewarded my work with the Hublot Design Prize, leading me to join the brand as an ambassador the year after,” says Ross. “It was a real experience to translate and encapsulate 40 years of Hublot history into one minimalistic sculpture, composed of watchmaking essentials embodying materials, innovation, and technique. Together with Hublot, we fuse history materials with ones that will become the future. I love when my creativity crosses all disciplines, and that is exactly what we are building here with Hublot. I’m happy to be part of the Hublot Art Family.” It was truly an evening brought to life by Hublot’s unwavering love for art with other notable attendees like No. 1 golfer in the world Dustin Johnson, Olympic legend and the fastest man alive Usain Bolt, famed models Adriana Lima and Devon Windsor, and a surprise musical performance by Sita Abellàn. @hautetime HAUTE LIVING 35

a Paolo Troilo-painted Lamborghini Huracán EVO called the Minotauro (Minotaur). The work expresses the dynamism, power, and innermost emotions that the artist experienced while driving the car. Troilo’s painting uses the representation of the male body as its defining element and as a means of communication. His work, titled “Minotauro,” owes its name to the mix of emotion and meaning that the artist experienced when he encountered Lamborghini. Troilo completed his education at the European Institute of Design in Rome, then went on to study arts and architecture at the University of Florence. His work has been exhibited in numerous cities like Singapore, San Francisco, Istanbul, New York, Milan, Rome, Palermo, Florence, and more. “It was inspiring to meet Paolo Troilo and his artistic expressiveness. In our company, we are accustomed to art and how it has always influenced our cars,” commented Christian Mastro, marketing director at Automobili Lamborghini. “However, when our product and the emotions it brings come together with the sensibilities of an artist like Troilo, something different and exceptionally unique like ‘Minotauro’ is created, and we are very proud of this.” The creator pays tribute to the Huracán EVO by depicting a fusion between 38 HAUTE LIVING hauteauto.com

man, and the bull symbol of Automobili Lamborghini. The fusion is inspired by the concept of myth expressed in the indomitable — supernatural and almost animalistic. The artist tactfully plays with the anatomy and myth that there are many similarities like the clenched fists on the front hood that resemble a bull’s horns. “Time. I am enamoured with the idea of slowness, and I have always championed it as a key to pleasure, culture, beauty, and success. But there are some encounters that change you,” explained Troilo. “Seeing the Lamborghini Huracán EVO and trying it out suggested to me that there are also things capable of releasing the same energy with acceleration, with speed, with momentum. I heard the sound of the wind picking up as the space narrowed and time distorted: I felt a flowing wind and used it to paint on the muse itself, the inspiration of these emotions: the Huracán, my Minotauro.” The Huracán EVO painted by Troilo, along with some of the artist’s other works, was displayed at Palazzo Serbelloni at Corso Venezia, 16 in Milan from November 4 to 13. This display was a part of the “TROILOMILANO SOLO ANDATA” (TROILO-MILAN ONE WAY) exhibition, curated by Luca Beatrice.

WILHELM AND KARL MAYBACH WERE REGARDED AS

gifted designers, trailblazers of the automotive luxury industry. Pioneers in matters of style, the duo created highly complex things with a simple-sounding formula. They paired perfection and craftsmanship with innovation, technically and in terms of quality — that is what Maybach is today. This year has been notable for the company as they mark their 100th anniversary and launched a special edition of the current S-Class and GLS models, each limited to only 100 units. “It’s about the passionate combination of every detail, no matter how small, that makes a luxury car a Maybach — all in combination with state-of-the-art technology from MercedesBenz,” says Philipp Schiemer, head of top-end vehicle group Mercedes-Benz AG and CEO Mercedes-AMG GmbH. “Every Mercedes-Maybach stands for sophisticated luxury in all its facets — for our customers who are looking for something very special.” The top-class GLS SUV will feature a V8 engine with 557 hp. With a sporty appearance, it has a luxury saloon that is 33 centimeters higher than the classic saloon and offers a generous 1.10 meters of legroom and air suspension. The interior of this SUV is not only soundproofed but also adorned with the finest leather. On the other hand, the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class luxury saloon will come with a V12 engine and 612 hp. The perfect chauffeur-driven saloon, this vehicle includes heat and massage functions for the seats, a noise-insulated rear compartment, and high-tech infotainment. This model has an 18-centimeter longer wheelbase than its previous long-wheelbase S-Class and comes with the first-time ever all-wheel drive. Both models possess characteristic Maybach hallmarks like the brand emblem on the impressive radiator grille. Both the S-Class and GLS are hand-painted in the same two tones – high-

tech silver/nautical blue, and feature a special design of the leather interior in crystal white/silver grey pearl. The brand logo also includes the inscription Edition 100 that adorns the C-pillar (S-Class) or D-pillar (GLS). The interiors also have various storage compartments and illuminated panels. The brand aims to provide a complete luxury experience, and the vehicle is furnished with a car cover with the iconic double M. The package also includes an exemplary handmade case made of soft crystal white or black leather to store keys and papers. There is also a special series diamond-studded fountain pen from the Maybach the Peak collection. To add to the anniversary edition, yacht manufacturer Robbe & Berking offers heat and massage functions for the seats. The Edition 100 will be available in the first markets from the beginning of 2022. Orders for the limited special series will be open from the fourth quarter of 2021.

LESS than a superyacht The Polish shipyard Sunreef has finally revealed its 96-foot catamaran 100 Sunreef Power that houses the excellent amenities of a superyacht.

THE LATEST FROM SUNREEF YACHT IS A TRANSATLANTIC LUXURY

craft built to offer unmatched comfort and a unique cruising experience. The first hull from the Polish shipyard’s latest super cat models, the 100 Sunreef Power, is a highly customized yacht with a striking hull finish combining dark grey and rose gold. Thanks to the yacht’s stern cockpit that spans the entire 13.5 meters, it offers ample dining space, a wet bar, and access to the day head. The relaxation area of the main deck features ample lounging space to the port side with a drop-down 55-inch TV and a custom-designed drinks bar to starboard. The main deck houses a well-equipped gym looking out over the ocean and leading to the vast bow terrace so that you can enjoy the stunning views of the oceans while getting some exercise. “Sunreef Yachts is the only shipyard in the world to inject superyacht quality into multihull architecture,” says Francis Lapp, Sunreef Yachts’ founder and president. “Our yachts are different from the catamarans you see on the market. In the world of multihull boats, Sunreef Yachts are an exception. Thanks to projects such as the 100 Sunreef Power, we are also gaining ground on the monohulldominated superyacht scene because today, more and more owners realize that catamarans make fantastic luxury yachts.” Natural oak veneers, brass accents, rose quartz, and custom-built cabinetry form part of the yacht’s interior decor. Working on the owner’s aesthetics, the catamaran’s staterooms have a homely touch using classic interiors. The master suite features a fantastic ocean view with a king-size bed and a relaxation area

in the port hull, decorated with classic black and white tiling. The 100 Sunreef Power can host 10 guests spread across five large en suite cabins. The 100 Sunreef Power uses an ultramodern, energy-saving air-conditioning system, which provides AC throughout the night without using the generators. The crew is accommodated in three crew cabins, two located in the bow of the hull and one to the aft. “The 100 Sunreef Power is a superyacht addition to Sunreef Yachts’ new power range,” says Agnieszka Blizniuk, yacht design director. “It stands out with a sporty hull line, a vast flybridge, a pioneering garage system, and a stern platform. Our engineers designed an innovative hull shape for this motor yacht for increased comfort and performance. I believe that catamarans have not been present enough on the superyacht market. Still, thanks to the 100 Sunreef Power project, their time has finally come.” The megayacht flybridge of the catamaran offers plenty of relaxation areas, like the bar and a large dining table. The site can also be transformed into an outdoor cinema with a high-end audio system, a retractable projector, and a screen. A custom-built spa pool flanked by large sun pads for guests to rejuvenate and relax in close proximity to nature. The 100 Sunreef Power boasts a large aft hydraulic platform for water sports. Its voluminous garage conceals two three-seater Jet Skis, a refueling station, and plenty of storage for water toys.

BALL OF time Nicolas Ghesquière notes that the Louis Vuitton’s Women’s Spring-Summer 2022 collection is an invitation to “le grand bal of Time.” The concept of time is a theme woven into the intricate DNA of the luxury Maison as the brand continues to evolve into the modern era — without losing sight of the pristine craftsmanship that is Louis Vuitton. This year marks an exceptional time as Vuitton has been celebrating its 200th birthday through a series of installments and experiences honoring the brand’s heritage. For Spring-Summer 2022, Ghesquière sees clothing as the conduit from yesterday to today — and most importantly, the present moment. “I wanted to situate this ready-to-wear collection at the threshold of couture. Its unabashed luxury demonstrates the opulence of the Maison’s savoir-faire,” says Ghesquière. From beautifully beaded jackets styled with contemporary denim styles to exaggerated collars and extravagant silhouettes, Ghesquière demonstrates the complex intersection of time through the design, ultimately reimagining the modern world of couture. Louis Vuitton Objets Nomades installation curated by Patricia Urquiola at the Louis Vuitton Miami Design District Women’s Store

Design Miami 2021 left a lasting impact on the house of Louis Vuitton. A week for collectors and design enthusiasts to discover the latest art innovations also became a week that celebrated life in light of the passing of Louis Vuitton Menswear artistic director and absolute creative genius Virgil Abloh. While hearts were certainly heavy, thousands came together to honor the legacy of Abloh by celebrating artistic expression and modern design. Louis Vuitton continued to embody Abloh’s passion for art and design during the week, keeping both his and the brand’s ethos at the forefront of every activation. Throughout the Miami Design District, you could feel Louis Vuitton’s creative presence at every corner, from the unveiling of the new Louis Vuitton Miami Design District Men’s Store to the Women’s Store becoming home to an extensive curation of the Objets Nomades collection. In fact, they also revealed five brand-new Objets Nomades from esteemed artists, including the Campana Brothers, Marcel Wanders studio, Raw Edges, Studio Louis Vuitton, and the debut of Chinese designer Frank Chou. Ahead, Haute Living gives an inside look into the wondrous work of Chou — as he designed the first-ever outdoor furniture pieces to be included in the Objets Nomades collection — as well as the new Miami Design District Men’s Store, ultimately proving Louis Vuitton’s unwavering dedication to modern craft. @hauteliving HAUTE LIVING 53

“DESIGNERS HAVE A DUTY TO LEAD, TEACH, AND FIGHT FOR WHAT IS RIGHT — AND A BETTER FUTURE.” — Frank Chou

Known for creating sophisticated experimental designs that fuse the traditional and contemporary, the Chinese and international Frank Chou has become an industry leader in the design community. Chou grew up in Beijing and founded his studio in 2012. Since the launch of the Frank Chou Design Studio, Chou has gone on to win several esteemed awards, including the SaloneSatellite Design Award during Milan Design Week, and was chosen for the Rising Talent Awards at Maison&Objet in Paris. Chou has led the industry with his belief in the importance of responsible design: “Designers have a duty to lead, teach, and fight for what is right — and a better future.” Chou joined Louis Vuitton’s impressive constellation of designers for the Objets Nomades collection with his Signature Armchair and Sofa — which can be found on the airy rooftop of the Louis Vuitton women’s store in the Miami Design District. Chou’s Signature Armchair and Sofa’s graceful and flowing arches mimic the layering of the terraced fields in Yunnan, China, and the naturally sculpted forms of Antelope Valley, Arizona. A fluid design meant for any space, Chou’s piece is Objet Nomades’ first-ever indoor-outdoor hybrid design. The outdoor model is upholstered in Louis Vuitton’s legendary waterproof canvas and Brio — a specially conceived, vibrant fabric by renowned Italian brand Paola Lenti. And, the indoor version features dynamic floating structures covered with luxe Louis Vuitton leather and three-dimensional Dots fabric, also by Lenti.

PERFECT

BALANCE Haute Living: What attracted you to the idea of designing an Objet Nomade for Louis Vuitton? Frank Chou: What attracted me is the perfect balance between taste and life, history and dream, [and the] craft and modernity in Objets Nomades. In fact, this is also a very important value [to remember] when we design. As a designer from China, we definitely have a different cultural background, and we seek to think about our identity further in this project. However, the true spirit, which I think we all have in common, regardless of regional culture and background, is that we have an outstanding attitude toward life. HL: What were the inspirations for your Objet? FC: One of the first inspirations is that we were thinking about China’s influence on our daily life, including our society, environment, culture, history, and nature. Therefore, at that time, [the] terraced fields in China attracted me and stuck in my mind. [But], of course, terraced fields do not only exist in China. We could see many other countries and regions with similar landforms, but after all, it began from here. This starting point gave rise to more natural sensations of different regions, and the nature of these regions’ nature drew clues in my mind. Beneath these clues, we found the threads of time, and this idea of time exists in many states. HL: Could you describe your Objet in a sentence? FC: A sculpture that enables a conversation with time.

Down the street from the Louis Vuitton Women’s store in the Miami Design District, situated perfectly on the corner, is the new Louis Vuitton Miami Design District Men’s store — a true celebration of the Louis Vuitton universe for men. As the second standalone men’s store in the world, their new home in the heart of Miami undoubtedly makes an impression. The building’s striking facade is inspired by the Diamond Screen, an Objet Nomade created by Marcel Wanders studio in 2017, which was a modern interpretation of the House’s historic Monogram pattern and the cane work that once adorned Louis Vuitton trunks. When you enter the vast space and premier shopping destination, guests are greeted by a chandelier inspired by the Spiral Lamp, an Objet Nomade by Swiss design studio Atelier Oï. The first collection to be featured in the store is the Louis Vuitton’s Menswear Spring/Summer 2022 — accompanied by giant sculptures related to the show’s chess theme — embodying Abloh’sdynamic, boundary-pushing concepts.

THE BEST NEW SKI RESORTS IN THE WORLD HIT THE SLOPES AND APRÈS-SKI IN STYLE (COVID RESTRICTIONS NOTWITHSTANDING) AT THESE NEWLY OPENED OR NEWLY REMODELED MOUNTAIN HOTELS. BY LAURA SCHREFFLER

NIEHKU

Sweden is known for its cutting-edge aesthetic and eco-friendly innovation, and both can be found in spades at Swedish Lapland’s Niehku Mountain Villa, just north of the Arctic Circle. Although its concept, as conceived by Krook & Tjäder, with interiors by award-winning design agency Stylt, is purely modern, it still pays homage to the past as the hotel is literally built on the site of a once-historic train line roundhouse that ferried iron ore. It’s a beautiful place to spend time relaxing to be sure, but this is also an area known for its heli-skiing thanks to more than 60 mountain peaks and over 3,000 miles of terrain, with vertical drops of up to almost a mile. Because of its location, it’s also a spot where you might ski underneath the Northern Lights and that concept — like its name implies (Niehku is the Northern Sami word for dream) — is literally a dream come true. THE LODGE AT BLUE SKY

HIGASHIYAMA NISEKO VILLAGE, A RITZ-CARLTON RESERVE

For those who have always dreamed of skiing premium powder in the fairytale destination of Hokkaido, Japan, now is your chance to make your fantasy a reality. The property, which opened in December 2020, is positioned at the base of Mount Niseko Annupuri in the heart of Niseko Village, with over 2,100 acres of skiable terrain and access to extensive backcountry skiing as well as an international ski school, a dining and retail venue, an outdoor activity park, and two world-class golf courses. The inspiration behind the ultra-luxury resort lies in the Japanese proverb “Kachou Fuugetsu” (Flower, Bird, Wind, Moon) that encourages well-being through self-discoveries. Obviously, wellness would be important here, and so there is a holistic focus on wellness at the on-site spa, which offers tailored treatments and a traditional Japanese onsen with breathtaking views of Mount Yotei, the “Mount Fuji of Hokkaido.” The emphasis on well-being is also reflected in the culinary offerings, the philosophy behind which is “shun”, the celebration of seasonal produce harvested at its peak. After a day of skiing, relax in one of the resort’s 50 guest rooms and suites, which are all designed to frame nature via natural materials such as polished marble, fragrant cedarwood, and flame-brushed granite.

Nestled in Val d’Arly within easy reach of the ski resorts of Rochebrune, Jaillet, and Côte 2000 in the heart of France’s wildly beautiful Megève ski area is the Four Seasons Hotel Megève. This property, which opened in late 2019, is a downright treasure. It not only provides direct access to the slopes of Mont d’Arbois, but it’s also so dang chic! Architect Bruno Legrand and interior decorator Pierre-Yves Rochon worked hand-in-hand with owners, the de Rothschild family, (yes, that de Rothschild family) to curate a glamorous space highlighted by pieces of furniture and art from Ariane de Rothschild’s personal collection. The 41-room property is comprised of three chalets named after Baroness Benjamin de Rothschild’s daughters Eve, Noémie, and Alice with contrasting textures and materials featured throughout, with lively fabrics and bold statement pieces adding a contemporary look. All chalets offer access to the one-Michelin-starred restaurant, Prima, and the Spa by Bamford, an Alpine retreat featuring a heated indoor/outdoor pool with underwater music. Because it is now owned and operated by the Four Seasons, travelers will experience the personalized luxury touch that the hotel group offers, such as a helicopter Ski Safari to discover Mont Blanc; dogsledding tours led by a musher; direct access to the resort’s famous Les Mandarines slope; snowmobiling; and fat biking. Those who prefer to stay in and watch the snow fall can do so from the Spa at Four Seasons Hotel Megève, one of the largest of its kind in the French Alps that houses six treatment rooms (including a VIP suite for couples), a sauna, hammam, sensory shower, fitness center, salon, barber, and an herbal tea room lounge. 447 Chem. de la Rocaille, 74120 Megève, France, fourseasons.com/megevechalets

CERVO MOUNTAIN RESORT

The gorgeous Cervo Mountain Resort in Zermatt, Switzerland, one of the world’s most feted ski areas, debuted a new look early last year, making it even more of a prime choice for the jet set than ever before. Guests can expect 54 refreshed rooms and suites with three new alpine-focused concepts in nomad, alpinist, and huntsman styles with wooden surfaces, natural materials like granite and warm hues. Three in-house restaurants also reflect the property’s bid for sustainability, including Bazaar, which features a mostly plant-based menu; Ferdinand, which highlights regional dishes; and Madre Nostra, which focuses on naturally and locally procured fish and produce. Last but not least is the overhaul of Cervo’s Mountain Ashram Spa, which, as its name suggests, is an oasis in the midst of the mountains. Expect to find an herbal steam bath onsen, an outdoor sauna, tea yurt, Pilates, sound meditation, and yoga, among other supremely relaxing offerings. THE HYTHE VAIL

New for the winter season in the heart of the Rocky Mountains at the base of snowy hot spot Vail Mountain — within walking distance of the Eagle Bahn Condola — is The Hythe, Marriott International’s only Luxury Collection alpine resort in North America. All 344 rooms, inclusive of 22 suites and 16 residences, have been created by Wilson Ishihara Design to reflect the convivial local environment and the area’s natural beauty. These include elegant custom furniture and art pieces, a Wild Westfocused theme punctuated with glamorous 60s touches and historic ski references, Calacatta marble quarried from the Rocky Mountain, marble flooring textured to evoke snow fall, carved black stone walls and Douglas fir siding wood panels inspired by an Alpine chalet. There are four culinary concepts here, too, all focused on local farm-to-table fare and inspired by an ‘Après All Day’ spirit (which can best be found at its lobby bar, 10th Mountain, a partnership with local brand 10th Mountain Whiskey and Spirit Company). When you factor in the property’s “Personal Adventure Stewards” (another partnership, this time with Adventure IO, a company hosted by pro athletes, local experts, and global brand ambassadors) and mile-high wellness at the Well & Being Spa, which features a recovery lounge, an altitude-combatting oxygen bar and Vail’s only Himalayan salt lounge, it’s right on the money that The Hythe’s namesake is “haven.” We couldn’t think of of a more apt description. 715 W Lionshead Cir, Vail, CO 81657, thehythevail.com

Freedom is the predominant theme at Urban Cowboy, a gorgeous retreat in the Catskills that opened its doors in 2020. The romantic, the wanderer, and the adventurer are the targets of this luxury-meets-homey brand which also has locations in Brooklyn and Nashville. Here at the Lodge, a mountain escape on 68 acres in the Big Indian Wilderness inside of the 700,000-acre Catskills Park — only 2.5 hours from New York City — the ethos of cowboy culture is truly celebrated. Anticipate rustic luxury accommodations dating back to 1898 that have been artfully revived in Lyon Porter’s signature style of bold patterns, repurposed structures, and hand-picked Americana antiques, all of which are inspired by the power of nature. This retreat also happens to be a five-minute drive from Belleayre Mountain’s 171 skiable acres, 50 trails, two parks, and eight lifts, as well as the nearby hidden gem Plattekill Mountain. 37 Alpine Rd, Big Indian, NY 12410, urbancowboy.com/catskills

Rosa Alpina, which opened in December 2020 during the heart of the pandemic, was always going to be an incredible resort thanks to its prime location in the Italian mountain town of San Cassiano beneath the peaks of Lavarella and Conturines, and now is even more so thanks to its partnership with the Aman group. There’s a lot to love here besides the UNESCO World Heritage ski cred, including a majestic spa with two heated swimming pools, a Jacuzzi, hammam, cold plunge pool, yoga studio, and gym;the three Michelinstarred restaurant St. Hubertus, an 11-table affair courtesy of Chef Norbert Niederkofler; and endless arrays of winter sport activity in the nearby Pale Mountains. This winter, new offerings include the Silver Mirror Tour, which allows guests to visit a secret ice wall; a mindful skiing experience; and Peace of Mind, a guideprovided trek to hidden gems throughout the mountains, where sundowners and canapés can be enjoyed in consummate privacy in the shadow of the Dolomiti Superski region’s awe-inspiring views. PENDRY PARK CITY

One of the hottest hotels to open this winter is the Pendry Park City. As designed by SB Architects, with interiors by KES Studio, this sharp new hotel located in the heart of Canyons Village (the sixth in the Pendry portfolio) is a modern take on the alpine lodge highlighted as such by a palette of warm woods, stone, and metals. The ski-in/ski-out hotel is the perfect place to hit the slopes and après all day thanks to four unique hospitality experiences, including a Japanese American steakhouse, Park City’s only rooftop pool and bar, and a pizza parlor. There’s also a state-of-the-art fitness center, a curated art collection and, most importantly, 7,300 acres of world-class skiable terrain. 2417 High Mountain Road, Park City, UT 84098, pendry.com/park-city

WINTER SKINCARE

The three winter skincare treatments recommended outside of your daily routine.

DR. KIRAN MIAN, DR. DHAVAL BHANUSALI | SKIN | NEW YORK Dermatologists often refer to the fall and winter seasons as “laser season.” Due to less sun exposure and being less tan, wintertime is optimal for laser and light therapy. These energy-based therapies target chromophores in our skin, including blood vessels and pigment. Broad-based light, for example, is one of my favorite wintertime skin procedures. BBL uses filtered wavelengths of light to target blood vessels and sunspots in our skin, undoing sun damage accumulated from the summer months. Acquired pigment turns almost coffee grindlike and flakes off, leaving beautifully even-toned skin. The light energy also stimulates collagen production, keeping pore size tight and the dermis nice and strong. Avoiding sun pre- and post-procedure is crucial for a smooth treatment without the complication of discoloration. Fractionated laser therapy is another of my favorite wintertime procedures. Lasers use a specific wavelength to achieve a targeted goal. Fractionally ablative lasers target the water in our skin — they create small channels in the skin which then stimulate healing. The benefits — the skin produces new collagen, strengthening the dermis, erasing fine lines, creating tightness, 74 HAUTE LIVING hauteliving.com/hautebeauty

smoothing out skin texture, clearing away sun damage, tightening pore size. This “new” skin is glowing, soft, and smooth. This powerful device creates magic, but does require healing time. A cozy winter week spent catching up on Netflix while your skin heals is the perfect time to do this procedure. Another wintertime favorite is Kybella. Kybella is an injection used to melt away the subcutaneous fat pad under the chin. With a few sessions, it can help reduce the “double chin” appearance. As the deoxycholic acid dissolves fat cells, it causes a bit of temporary inflammation and swelling that can last for about two weeks. Timing this procedure with the turtlenecks and scarves of our winter wardrobes can help you get through the healing period.

DR. BERTHA BAUM | SKIN | MIAMI/FT. LAUDERDALE

Besides the regular use of sunscreen, healthy eating, drinking water, no smoking and no alcohol, while maintaining a good skincare routine, here I recommend great treatments you can do at your board-certified dermatologist. These include the below. Aquagold is a personalized cocktail created for your skin type that allows for a microinfusion of nutrients where we can add hydration to the skin as well as many other great improvements to the skin tone and texture. Monthly Hydrafacials can add glow and hydration to the skin through three simple steps that cleanse, extract, and hydrate with the correct ingredients for your skin. It does all of this through the patented vortex fusion delivery that allows for painless extractions. BBL, IPL, and laser treatments. Great option for winter since we are not being exposed to the sun as much during the wintertime and we can cover our chest, arms, and any areas we treat during the two-week recovery period without worrying about being too hot outdoors.

THE TRANSITION BETWEEN THE SUMMER TO WINTER MONTHS

has an effect on your skin. With the temperatures rapidly dropping and the low humidity levels present, your skin will need a refresh. To help minimize sun damage from the prior season and the flakiness or irritation caused by the weather change, skin treatments can be a useful resource. Haute Beauty sat down with our beauty experts to discuss the top three winter skin treatments they recommend to both rejuvenate and moisturize your skin. Here’s what they had to say:

PHOTOS COURTESY OF ALLIANCE IMAGES/SHUTTERSTOCK.COM (TOP), NEW AFRICA/SHUTTERSTOCK.COM (BOTTOM)

DR. NIANDA REID | SKIN | PHILADELPHIA

Summer months can do a lot of damage to our skin from UV rays and photodamage, leading to hyperpigmentation and dehydrated skin. Here are some treatments that you can do in the winter to help your skin recover. Microneedling is a great way to rejuvenate the skin. Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, can boost collagen production, reduce scarring, and improve fine lines and wrinkles. Winter is the perfect time to heal from a microneedling procedure and facilitate rejuvenation of the skin’s outer layers. A chemical peel is a technique where a solution is applied to the skin with the goal of creating a controlled injury to the outermost layers of the skin. Chemical peels are a great way to treat skin texture, pigmentation, scarring, and fine lines. Depending on the depth, chemical peels can expose deeper layers, which makes the skin much more sensitive to the sun during the healing stages. Getting a chemical peel during the winter months means that your skin is much more protected during the healing stages. This also means that you will be ready by the time summer rolls around with a more even skin tone and vibrant-looking skin. The cold winter months are the perfect time to schedule your laser treatment whether it be for photo-rejuvenation, to treat blood vessels, or for laser hair removal. Too much sun exposure before and after laser treatments can increase your risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

FERTILITY’S TIMEPIECES How a fertility doctor’s love for watches plays a large role in his practice.

Haute Beauty: When did your love for watches first begin? Dr. Brian Levine: At an early age. I will never forget, when I was 9 years old and my parents gifted me a Swatch watch for my birthday. Back then, I remember thinking I was the absolute coolest kid because all my friends owned digital Casio watches and I had an analog. For me, telling time and being specific was a skill I was always passionate about since the beginning. Being able to look at a watch that told me the exact time always blew me away. HB: What was the first watch you bought on your own? BL: It was a Tag Heuer Professional 2000. I was drawn into Tag because Heuer was a racing company involved in Formula 1 racing. As an 18-year-old, that was elite precision sport. After working as a summer camp counselor, I saved up and bought it. To this very day, it still resides in my collection and holds a special place in my heart as it has traveled through college with me and was the first watch I bought on my own. 76 HAUTE LIVING hauteliving.com/hautebeauty

HB: It’s interesting because watches tell the time but each watch tells a story and places time on that story. That being said, what is your funniest watch purchase story? BL: It’s probably the one my friends like to tell about me the most. It’s both true and unique… I always wanted to own an Aquanaut by Patek Philippe, also known as a 5167 to collectors. This watch is the quintessential simple watch: it tells the time, it tells the date, it’s made of steel, and it is on a black rubber strap. I remember when it was released, I was in college and I thought it was pretty cool. Everyone from George Soros to Paul McCartney to George Clooney was wearing it. It’s one of those watches that are so simplistic that you can wear it every day with a tuxedo, a pair of jeans, and a tee, it doesn’t matter. Although it was designed to be a diving watch, I was obsessed. Fast-forward, I am finally out in private practice and everything is going well so when my first big bonus came around, I knew exactly what I was buying. However, knowing that my wife went through the equivalent amount of time and probably even more stress as I started our practice and I decided that I couldn’t buy one for me and not one for her. And when I tell you I went on the hunt for what is arguably the most difficult watch to now buy and to find one for my wife at the same time, it encountered a lot of laughs. I never forget calling a watch dealer and telling him I need an Aquanaut, for two. “Are you getting married?” he prefaced. My response was simply, “It’s bigger than that, I am getting my first bonus and I need to commemorate this with my wife.” The reason why this story is so bizarre is that most people buy one of these watches in their lives. I wanted my wife to have the same pleasure I had and I refused to own one till she did as well. To this day, when she puts on her Patek Philippe Aquanaut Luce Pure White, I think back to all the support she gave me and our family, so that I could dedicate my time to helping others start their families in a timely fashion. HB: If money was not an object, what would your dream watch be? BL: It’s funny: I am more about the style of the watch and the way it is all put together. My favorite designer is Gerald Genta. He is the one who designed the Patek Philippe Aquanaut and the famous Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711.

PHOTOS COURTESY OF ERIC LEUNG

FERTILITY AND WATCHES. DESPITE THEIR SEEMING LACK OF

association, they do possess similar characteristics. Fertility and watches are both marked by precise measurement. Watches are the way we mark time and in fertility, we measure someone’s fertility as a function of time because as one grows older, their fertility rates go down. Brian Levine, MD, leads the fertility industry by normalizing an open dialogue about infertility — a medical condition affecting one in eight couples — and educates prospective parents on a national level. Haute Beauty sat down with Dr. Levine to discuss how his attention to detail in a patient’s diagnosis and treatment plan spreads beyond his profession, and we also talk about his love for horology and watches.

HB: Tell us about your watch collection. BL: My watch collection is an expression of who I am. I’ve never sold a watch; I have only acquired them over the years. Each watch that I bought tells a story about me. I remember where I got it, why I got it, and what big milestone in my life it represents. As a guy, jewelry options are limited. Watches are one of the few items you can change around on your day to day. It is my way of being a little bit different but still professional. Prior to buying a watch, I am research-heavy. I’m never impulsive and I always try to ensure I am not duplicating in the collection, either.

Haute In December, the final number of the Nautilus was released, which continues to trade for an extremely high number due to there only being 170 produced. If I had to pick my holy grail of watches it would be the simple 5711 in stainless steel with a blue dial; the way it was designed. I always have admired form following function — it is a simplistic architectural principle. It’s how Porsches are made, where the design of the style of the watch follows the function it has. I don’t know if I could ever pick a favorite, just like you can’t have a favorite child, but that watch would be the keystone to my collection. If I could pick a close second, it would be the Piaget Altiplano Ultimate Concept (in platinum), which comes in at an incredible 2mm thickness, but being a doctor, that watch could never survive the wear and tear of 14-hour days, and hours of procedures and patients. HB: Do you wear a watch every day when you practice? BL: Every day! I love routines and I like structure so I wear a watch daily and rotate them. When I am on call, running around the clinic, doing lots of procedures, or seeing patients, I will frequently wear my Apple Watch. I’ve made sure the orange Hermès band matches the orange clogs that I like to wear — taking a pop of color and making my outfit more fun. If I’m tired of the pings and alerts of such a high-tech watch, I also put a Rolex Daytona on an orange rubber strap that matches my clogs, too! Frequently, I switch my watch out to match my belt, shoes, or outfit. Today, I am wearing a blue suit and I’m wearing one of my most favorites, the Rolex-GMT Master, known as the Pepsi watch for its blue and red bezel. It complements my suit and tie. The watch, to me, is an extension of fashion but also the fun of jewelry a guy gets to wear outside of the wedding ring.

MD

HB: Is there anything else you’d like to mention? BL: One of my favorite watches that I own is the Rolex Daytona. I have the current model with a white dial and the previous model with a black dial. This watch has an incredible history where someone like Paul Newman set the course on how this watch became revered as an amazing piece of jewelry and art to wear but is also something that is a highly accurate machine designed for timing, for example, doing laps around the track. What I do for a living is all about precision medicine. I try to help people understand how they perform and how they can get through their journey as quickly as possible like a race car getting around the track. There are so many parallels between watches that are used by drivers for racing, pilots and sailors for navigating, and what I use them for as a doctor. I help people navigate, and figure out their reproductive cycles. For women who want to protect and preserve their fertility, we stop time by freezing eggs. At the end of the day, a watch helps me understand someone’s chances of starting a family, growing a family, how they want to do something and where they want to go. Time is a man-made construct that dictates the choices we make and how we live our lives. And for me, I am so appreciative of this story because the science behind watches, horology, is so important. Understanding the engineering, design, and sheer labor that goes into these watches, automatic watches, to make such an exact machine that is powered by movement — my movement, my hard work, my running around — is amazing. It’s all about precision and accuracy, and that is what I strive to do as a physician. hauteliving.com/hautebeauty HAUTE LIVING

December 3 during his Art Basel 2021 Haute Living cover release dinner at El Tucán in Miami: He was totally living his best life. The 34-year-old rapper danced, did shots, and sipped Ace of Spades during the event, which was presented by Places, The Lighting Studio, and Algorand. Meek was joined at the event by Simone Sestito, Radmila Lolly, Nadia French, Louis Birdman, Angela Birdman, Manny and Brianna Varas, and Gustavo Tello. The evening featured bottle parades and loads of dancing — Meek sang and danced the night away, and sang throughout dinner to his latest album, “Expensive Pain.” Haute Media Group CEO Kamal Hotchandani and Senior Vice President April Donelson were on hand to support the Philadelphia-born rapper, who graced the magazine’s Art Basel issue.

Tag Heuer hosted an exclusive dinner to honor their unparalleled partnership with Miami Heat superstar Jimmy Butler and the launch of the TAG Heuer x Jimmy Butler Special Edition Carrera Heuer 02T Tourbillon. “Tag Heuer and Jimmy Butler share a similar trailblazing approach to our respective crafts: a drive for high performance, entrepreneurial spirit, and a passion for excellence,” Frédéric Arnault, CEO of Tag Heuer explained. “Jimmy is an impressive athlete and dynamic leader on and off the court, and we are thrilled to showcase our partnership and close collaboration through this special edition Carrera Heuer 02T Tourbillon, exclusive to the Miami Design District boutique.” To honor both the legacies of the brand and Butler in Miami, Tag Heuer hosted an intimate evening with close friends of Butler, watch collectors, friends of the brand, and celebrities — including Madelyn Cline of Netflix’s Outer Banks and Reggaeton superstar Luis Fonsi — at a stunning waterfront private villa in Miami Beach. Guests were greeted by a fleet of Porsche cars lining the entrance of the venue in honor of the brand’s partnership with the luxury automobile manufacturer and were instantly immersed into the wonderful world that is Tag Heuer. As guests were welcomed into the intimate setting of the villa, they indulged in Champagne courtesy of Krug and canapés by Zuma as they viewed vitrines revealing Butler’s favorite timepieces, including the new Special Edition Carrera Heuer 02T Tourbillon. “As a watch enthusiast, it has been a dream of mine to add my own touch to a luxury timepiece. For this special watch, [that] we’re unveiling tonight, I was able to include personal elements like subtle accents of pink to honor the person who means the most to me in this world, my daughter. By wearing this watch, you’ll always have a piece of me and her when you check the time,” reveals Butler. Before the dinner began, Colombian television host, model, and dear friend of the brand Paulina Vega welcomed Arnault to the stage to toast the ambassadorship and unveil the new timepiece. Guests then indulged in a coursed meal by Zuma and special performance by renowned violinist Ezinma. It was a magical evening celebrating the pillars of LVMH: creation and excellence.

AFTER TAKING A PAUSE LAST YEAR, ART BASEL MIAMI BEACH

returned with an energy like never before; every part of Miami, from South Beach to Wynnwood, was teeming with excitement that celebrated the city, art, and its talented creators. To continue the celebration, esteemed luxury brand Braman Miami hosted an evening with Haute Living’s Miami cover star and famed international artist, Romero Britto, on their rooftop overlooking the Magic City. The vibrant evening embodied Britto’s mission as an artist to embrace life through a colorful lens. Before Britto made a grand entrance on the rooftop, an exclusive dinner was hosted by Braman Miami, Haute Living, Wrist Aficionado, XO Jets, Privé Porter, and Bentley Residences. Then, after the dinner, Britto stunned the 800 guests gathered on the rooftop by arriving in his latest custom piece — a Bentley Continental GT convertible. The custom Bentley by Britto is, of course, adorned with his signature hearts and style, ultimately exuding the love and joy his work celebrates. After the major reveal, Mike Rodriguez, the general manager of Brahman Miami, welcomed guests and introduced Britto and Bentley Americas President and CEO Christophe Georges, who said a few words. Haute Media Group CEO Kamal Hotchandani followed this speech by thanking guests for coming. Guests then indulged in the exclusive offerings on the rooftop by Braman Miami, Haute Living, Wrist Aficionado, XO Jets, Privé Porter, Bentley Residences, Pedini Miami, and Cox Automotive. Other notable attendees were Gil Dezer, Barry Skolnick, Missy Brody, John Ruiz, Grant and Elena Cardone, Fareed and Sharon Adib and Martin Fritsches, the CEO and president of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars North America. The evening was full of life and celebration, and one that marked the great return of Art Basel to Miami Beach.
