THE RENOWNED BARBARA STURM HAS SET UP SHOP IN MIAMI’S DESIGN DISTRICT, AND THE HIGH-PERFORMANCE TREATMENTS HERE ARE THE STUFF OF LEGEND. BY ANETTA NOWOSIELSKA STURM STORM IS TAKING OVER MIAMI, AND IN THIS CASE, that’s a very good thing. Synonymous with posh skincare as well as a legit celeb favorite, Dr. Barbara Sturm, a German aesthetics doctor widely renowned for her anti-inflammatory philosophy and nonsurgical anti-aging skin treatments, just opened a fabulous atelier in Miami’s Design District. An appointment at the spa, likely to book up quickly, offers access to the sanctum of the #SturmGlow, a holy grail of dermis. Just ask Kim Kardashian, who underwent Sturm’s signature “vampire facial” on Kim and Kourtney Take Miami. The treatment involves drawing a small amount of the patient’s blood to use it to heal the body by reinjecting it into the face. Icky? Maybe. But it seems to work wonders. Sturm’s understanding of pathology goes beyond the surface. The skincare guru with legions of famous devotees began her medical career in orthopedics, as part of the team that developed a cutting-edge treatment for inflammatory conditions like osteoarthritis. Called the “Kobe Procedure” after the late Kobe Bryant, the treatment uses the patient’s own blood cells to produce proteins that reduce inflammation and stimulate the healing process. This development led Sturm to the field of aesthetics, where she applied her plasma knowledge to beauty regimens. Sturm’s skincare line, launched on Net-a-Porter in 2014, is a natural extension of her overall vision. Her medical proclivity can be found etched across the line, presented neatly on stocky pots of creams and lotions and frosted pipette bottles filled with serums and “Glow Drops.” (Added bonus: they look chic atop any bathroom vanity.) Her Miami location joins a growing list of U.S. outposts, from Los Angeles to the Hamptons. And as was the case with Sturm’s Dusseldorf and London haunts, the Design District’s location was designed by Tobias Freytag. The space celebrates tall arches and sharp angles. It’s an STURM STORM understated backdrop to Sturm’s Professional Line, which targets anti-aging, and her commitment to semi-medically-graded beauty regimens. The products can only be purchased in-store and are available after consulting with one of Sturm’s aestheticians. It’s just a matter of time before Sturm’s skincare line finds its way into every Miamian’s beauty routine. As for the inevitable impact of the new store, it’s been a long time coming.
