am Adebayo doesn’t need to click his size 16 kicks and say “There’s no place like home” three times to get to his favorite spot in the Magic City: more often than not, he’s already there. And by “there” we mean his couch. The Miami Heat’s hottest young rising star is a bona fide homebody. But he comes by it honestly. “Where I’m from, in the middle of the country, there were no clubs or parties. You had to make your own fun. [You were limited to] sitting in the house or going outside,” Adebayo explains. He typically chose the first option while waiting for his single mother, Marilyn Blount, to come home from an all-day shift at the Acre Station Meat Farm in Little Washington, N.C., where she earned $12,000 a year as a cashier. “My mom and I would just kind of hang out at the house, and now that’s all I want to do,” he says. His rented Miami digs, on the 48th floor of a downtown high-rise, are a far cry from the single-wide trailer of his youth. He finally has room to breathe; his bachelor pad has all of the necessary space and then some to accommodate his towering 6’9” frame. And because his mother lives in the same building, a mere 43 floors down — and still frequently does his laundry — he really does have all his creature comforts in one place. It’s understandable that he’d be loath to leave. For the record, the newly minted All-Star is far from a recluse. He’s 23; it’s almost his civic duty to indulge in the hedonistic delights that Miami offers. He most certainly isn’t in North Carolina anymore. For one of the city’s most recognizable and feted residents, it’s likely that just about any and every door is wide open. But that doesn’t mean he has to step behind the curtain. Bam splashes out on a very small scale: a special steak dinner at Prime 112, or, more frequently, a “quality” waffle and mango smoothie at midtown eatery Angelina’s or a “calm situation” at Tap 42. “[I was raised] to be laid-back,” he explains. “If I have friends in town visiting, we’ll go get dinner, but if I’m just by myself, I’m at the house, watching random TV shows. Right now I’m into this thing on Disney+, Brain Games [an Emmy-nominated show featuring games and experiments designed to mess with your mind]. I know it sounds crazy, but it’s [actually] pretty cool. I’m [also] starting to learn to play chess. I said, ‘I’m going to learn to play chess, because I want to win.’”
This, in part, is what makes Bam cool. He’s a breath of fresh air in the NBA, and, yes, an anomaly. Where most young players are flaunting their multimillion-dollar contracts at Joia Beach, KYU, Swan, Papi Steak and Komodo, dropping G’s on flashy cars, bling and expensive timepieces, Adebayo is cut from different cloth. He’s at home, playing mind games and doing crossword puzzles, quietly explaining that his first big purchase after signing with the Heat was a leased Range Rover because it was “too early” for him to commit to anything more expensive. It would seem that he’s cautious about his newfound wealth, as if someone might snatch it away at any moment, but really, this is who he is: a kid who was raised without, but, now that he has, remains unpretentious. On his nightstand there’s a framed picture of the trailer he grew up in, engraved with the words “Never forget where you came from, and never lose sight of where you are going,” a reminder to stay that way. But that doesn’t mean he hasn’t parted with some of the $8,900,280 he’s earned from his three-year contract with the Heat. In fact, the best money he ever spent also happens to be his proudest moment. “Growing up, it was just me and my mom. I watched her struggle for 17 years, and when I was 19, I got a chance to pay off all of her debt after two paychecks. That’s a crazy feeling,” he says a bit emotionally, adding, “You think about it in a different way. It’s kind of a thank you, but really it’s more of an ‘I love you and don’t want you to have to worry about anything else.’ It was a milestone. Some guys, when they get drafted, they only think about themselves. They go buy cars and houses. I just wanted to take care of my mom.” But he also wanted to help others like her — and others like himself, too. In 2017, Adebayo created the BAM Foundation, with the mission of changing the lives of single mothers while also changing the chances, choices and challenges for their children; he was named a Rising Star by Champions for Philanthropy in 2019. He has also, quite significantly, been a champion of the Black Lives Matter movement, ending each game of the 2019-20 season by saying, “Black lives matter, people.” “[Having this kind of money] means I can do stuff for other people,” he says. “Going back to [my hometown] and giving back to my people, telling the kids they have a chance even when they think they might not, that’s important to me, because I didn’t have a chance at one point in time.” And though that is clearly no longer the case — he is now a pivotal part of the Miami Heat machine, and, to prove it, has avoided free agency by signing a five-year max extension with elevator clauses that can take the total to a whopping $195 million — fans will never find Adebayo acting different or “better than.” His mother would have his hide. “My mom never let my head get big. When I was younger and playing really well, she would always find something that would bring me back to reality,” he recalls. “There’s nothing wrong with having confidence, but cockiness is different. My mom never wanted me to be a cocky kid, even though I was one of the best players in the area. The greatest life lesson she ever taught me was to stay humble, and I just want to make her proud.” @hauteliving HAUTE LIVING 17
debayo doesn’t sweat the small stuff; he’s a pretty relaxed guy. But even he has his moments. He had a few really bad nights in late September after the Heat’s 2-4 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2020 NBA Finals. “It’s been haunting me since we lost,” he confesses. “We went that far, and to come home empty-handed…I lose sleep over stuff like that. I didn’t sleep for four or five nights. It’s difficult to wrap your mind around it, when you get that close. Nobody wants to end the season second. Where we were in the bubble, we could see [the Lakers] celebrating; we wanted to be [the ones] celebrating.” As crushing as the loss was, there’s a silver lining. “Obviously, nobody wants to lose, but I’m competitive, and losing drives me to be the best player I can be,” Adebayo says. And in all other respects, he has had one hell of a year. Something remarkable occurred for him this season. Always a good player with raw potential, he is now on his way to becoming one of the greats. The center/power forward — born in Newark, N.J., as Edrice Femi Adebayo (he acquired the nickname “Bam Bam” of The Flintstones fame as a 1-year-old after flipping a coffee table) — has always been a basketball prodigy. After moving to North Carolina, where he attended high school at the High Point Christian Academy, he was named North Carolina Mr. Basketball in 2016 and played in the McDonald’s AllAmerican Game and Jordan Brand Classic that year. He was rated as a five-star recruit and had his pick of prospects, opting for the University of Kentucky due to Hall of Famer John Calipari’s coaching record. His on-court prowess there earned him the 2017 SEC Champion title, as well as an agent and a 14th overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft. But it’s been a slow and steady burn up until this year, when Adebayo was really given a chance to show what he was made of. He’s really brought the heat, so to speak, making franchise history on Dec. 10, 2019, by becoming the youngest player ever to record a tripledouble with 30 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists in a game against the Atlanta Hawks. In that same game, he also became the fourth player in Heat history with a 30-point triple-double. He was named a first-time NBA All-Star and voted to the NBA All-Defensive Second Team in the 2019-2020 season, as well as being named the 2020 Taco Bell NBA Skills Challenge Winner during NBA All Star weekend and a finalist for the U.S. Olympic team. 18 HAUTE LIVING hauteliving.com
“I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEW SEASON. I’M TRYING TO BE BETTER THAN I WAS THIS PAST YEAR, AND I WANT TO BRING THIS CITY A CHAMPIONSHIP.”
“I’m simple, so [personally], I don’t think my life has changed any,” he says. “But when it comes to basketball, my life has changed tremendously, and that’s because I got the opportunity to really be myself on the court. I’ve been able to express all the other valuable talents that I have. My first years, I had someone playing in front of me, and I worked my way up to getting a starting spot. I got the opportunity to be myself, to not worry that my coach [Erik Spoelstra] was going to take me out if I messed up. He let me play through my mistakes.” It was a smart strategy that obviously paid off when the Heat became this season’s Eastern Conference champions. Adebayo showed what he was made of spectacularly during the playoffs, averaging 18.5 points, 11.4 rebounds and 4.9 assists in the bubble. And he’ll continue to keep up the hard work, with the intention of being the best he can possibly be. “[I’m going to] keep a level head, keep it simple and easy as I’ve always been doing. [I’m going to] keep working behind the scenes, keep building my confidence to be a bigger and better player,” he says. That works for the Heat brass and his teammates alike, all of whom have praised him to the hilt. President Pat Riley has referred to him as the “cornerstone to our franchise,” while team star Jimmy Butler has said “he’s the heart and soul of this thing…he’s going to be the reason we win a championship.”

“SOME GUYS, WHEN THEY GET DRAFTED, THEY ONLY THINK ABOUT THEMSELVES. THEY GO BUY CARS AND HOUSES. I JUST WANTED TO TAKE CARE OF MY MOM.”
It’s also been rumored that the Heat would refuse to even discuss a trade for Adebayo, who seems quietly flustered in discussing his own greatness. “It makes me feel like I’m wanted,” he says with a laugh. “Obviously, that means you’ve got a lot of respect from the organization, from your team and from other teams, because they want you to join them, that they see I’m an impeccable player on both ends of the court. It’s all respect.” Adebayo says he’s a realist, not a dreamer; he’d rather deal in fact than fantasy. Yes, he’s getting to live his dream, but he’s doing so with his eyes wide open and his head clear. “If you can’t put yourself in a state of mind where you’re at peace, I don’t think it’s possible to go through an 82-plus-game season or playoffs,” he declares. “Sometimes you need to meditate to shut your mind off. I turn off all the lights in my room, go to YouTube and type in ‘thunderstorms’ and listen to that. It’s definitely very calming.” With such a short turnaround period between the 2019-20 season, which was delayed because of Covid-19, and the 2020-21 season, which at press time was planned to kick off on Dec. 22, he’s going to need to harness all the calm he can. Pretty soon, he’ll be heading off to long, grueling days of practice, then home to his zen oasis. Back and forth, forth and back. So goes Bam Adebayo — and he doesn’t plan on any more sleepless nights. “I’m looking forward to the new season,” he says. “I’m trying to be better than I was this past year, and I want to bring this city a championship.” Now, that is some magic we can get behind. @hauteliving HAUTE LIVING 21

Bold. Unique. Rich. Pegasus Exclusif. BY DEYVANSHI MASRANI
WHEN IT COMES TO THE ULTIMATE LEVEL OF LUXURY IN THE
perfume world, it doesn’t get much more impressive than Parfums de Marly. With a wide array of scents for men and women, each more tantalizing than the next and presented in gorgeous bottles that can double as décor, it makes perfect sense (or scents, if you will), to introduce the brand to the Magic City. The 18th Century, Frenchinspired fragrance house has chosen Saks Fifth Avenue at the Brickell City Centre in downtown Miami for its latest home, which is where I caught up with Parfums de Marly Managing Director Yvan Jacqueline to discuss the brand’s latest launch, Pegasus Exclusif for men. Deyvanshi Masrani: Tell me about Pegasus Exclusif, in your own words. Yvan Jacqueline: Pegasus Exclusif is another olfactive dimension of the original, Pegasus, making it more bold, deep, dark, and seductive. Pegasus Exclusif is brighter and more energetic. It is a reinterpretation of the original but bringing it to a creamier, woody, deeper level with the addition of natural oud. 22 HAUTE LIVING hauteliving.com
DM: What are the main fragrance notes and what do they add to the scent overall? YJ: Pegasus Exlusif opens with a burst of pink pepper and bergamot accords. It evolves to an oriental addictive blend of vanilla and bitter almond. Its woody base includes guaiac wood and natural oud which lends depth to the composition. DM: What led to the inception of this fragrance? Tell me about its journey. YJ: Pegasus, a pillar of the collection, has been highly successful for eight years. Pegasus marked a chapter in Parfums de Marly’s history with its woody and exceptionally distinguished signature. Pegasus Exclusif retains two of its most characteristic and addictive ingredients: bitter almond and vanilla. As part of the Les Metalliques Collection— [which includes] Godolphin, Pegasus, Herod, and now, Pegasus Exclusif—the metallic bottles are the first fragrances created by Julien Sprecher, they are the essence of Parfums de Marly.

DM: From where are the ingredients sourced and why? YJ: As always, exceptional ingredients are sourced, including the rarest essences and most sophisticated extractions. The vanilla is sourced from Madagascar—the best vanilla in the world. Parfums de Marly prides itself on using the finest ingredients available naturally and ethically sourced. And when not available in its natural form, we work with the gold standards of synthetic molecules; for example, musk is no longer ethically available in the natural world. We choose to do so to ensure the fragrances exude the ultimate level of luxury and elegance, as procured in the 18th Century. Our fragrances have over 75% natural ingredients where roses are sourced from Turkey and Bulgaria, to oregano from Oregon in the US, to bergamot from Sicily, and the highly sought after “black gold”, Oud from India. DM: Tell me about the bottle—both in its materials and design. YJ: The Parfums de Marly bottles are produced by the best glass makers in France, Pochet du Courval. [As Group Pochet says,] “With four centuries of history working with the greatest perfumers, [Group] Pochet has today a unique glass expertise in luxury bottles, with its an exceptionally pure material, and a perfect mastering of the external shape and internal glass distribution.” The bottles were designed to reflect the bold and striking fragrances within the bottles and the opulence and luxury inspired by the 18th Century. The Masculine/Unisex bottles have broad shoulders and a slightly tailored torso, with the Parfums de Marly shield emblazoned on its chest. The enlarged raised logo is front and center representing pride, honor, and pays homage to royalty. The smooth painted bottles have a weight to them with the zamac caps that are shaped in the shield of the logo with 1743 embossed to represent the year in which the “Marly Horses” sculptures were commissioned by Louis XV for the trough at the entrance to the grounds of his Chateau de Marly, sculpted by Guillame Coustou. The Feminine bottles are more delicate and subtle in design but absolutely make an opulent statement with their details. The curved bottles reflect the curves of a woman and when placed in hand, the Swarovski crystal centrally placed atop the engraved zamac cap adds a slight weight that quietly says, luxe. The floral trim pays homage to the architectural trompe l’oeil murals and walls found in the Chateau de Marly. And to top it off, a tassel collar matching in color to the Swarovski crystal, wraps the design in a beautiful bow.

DM: Who is the Pegasus Exclusif man? YJ: Pegasus Exclusif has set off in pursuit of a new masculinity. More noble, with greater freedom. This essence undeniably bears the stamp of the contemporary man. The exclusive nature of each ingredient affords the formulation an intense alchemy on the skin as well as exceptional strength and resilience. Each wearer can find their temperament within it; its rush; its force. Bold. Unique. Rich. @hauteliving HAUTE LIVING 23

the contemporaries, the classics Leave it to Gucci to combine the House heritage with modern style, to create an unmistakable aesthetic that marries the contemporary and the classic so seamlessly. Gold-tone chains, crystal embellishments, pops of vibrant coloring and varied sizing are just some of the added touches to enhance otherwise traditional styles, creating a hybrid that pulls from the past but picks up from the present. Highlighted here is the Jackie 1961 handbag, a signature style for the House with curved shaping, that recognizable hardware, and—thanks to Creative Director Alessandro Michele—eye-catching colors and sizes, ranging from mini to medium. Aston Martin’s V12 Speedster prototype is here. BY NIKITA PAWAR
that wasn’t the case with Aston Martin. The British luxury automobile manufacturer has revealed the first working prototype of the $950,000 V12 Speedster, after numerous sneak peeks and teasers. The company first announced the V12 Speedster in January, when it shared a first glimpse of the new open-cockpit, driver-oriented sports car. “The V12 Speedster once again showcases not only this great British brand’s ambition and ingenuity, but also celebrates our rich and unrivalled heritage,” said Andy Palmer, Aston Martin Lagonda president and group CEO. Over the next two months, the fleshed-out car design was launched at the Aston Martin headquarters in Gaydon. The car will make its global debut later this year, and deliveries are planned to start in the first quarter of 2021. The V12 Speedster isn’t the first open-cockpit sports car. Ferrari led the way with the Monza in 2018, followed by McLaren in 2019 with the similarly minimalist Elva. Bentley joined in by announcing the forthcoming Bacalar, but the design includes windscreens. The two-seater V12 Speedster will be restricted to only 88 examples worldwide. Created by in-house bespoke service Q by Aston Martin, this is truly a racer’s car, with an elegant combination of an authentic, driver-oriented sports car using cutting-edge motorsport and aviation technology and an enthralling experience of luxury. Its forward-looking features are made

with the same advanced materials and expert engineering used throughout Aston Martin’s contemporary sports car range. The car clearly nods to DBR1 and the DBS Superleggera; the former helped the brand win both Aston Martin’s legendary 1000km Nürburgring race in 1953 and the 1959 Le Mans 24 hours. The marque also pays homage to the Centenary CC100 Speedster Concept shown in 2013 to celebrate Aston Martin’s 100th anniversary. The Speedster’s design, while modern and dynamic, also has a powerful heart, with a high-performance variant of Aston Martin’s now iconic 5.2-litre V12 twin-turbo engine, capable of generating an output of around 700 hp and 700 Nm. Ferrari’s Monza SP2 makes 800 hp, while McLaren is at a shy 804 hp. Offering a compelling breadth of performance, superb response and thrilling V12 soundtrack, the Speedster engine is coupled to a ZF 8-speed automatic transmission mounted toward the rear of the car. It takes 3.5 seconds to tout zero to 62 mph. The Aston Martin V12 Speedster has an abundance of character, with the engine note and sound quality playing an important part in the undeniably invigorating driving experience.

+Color theory Maserati MC20: A bit of color, a lot of speed. BY NIKITA PAWAR

IF 2020 BEGAN BUMPILY, IT’S BECOME SMOOTH TOWARD
the end. The Maserati universe has introduced its second sports car, the Maserati MC20, with a sporty soul and a luxurious body. Presented on September 9 in Modena during the “MMXX: Time to be Budacious” event, the car is the successor to 2004 Maserati MC12. Maserati’s contribution to the world of high-performance GT cars is undeniable, and the MC20 (MC for Maserati Corse and 20 for 2020) combines performance, sportiness and luxury in unique Maserati style. Its predecessor the MC12 was loosely based on Ferrari’s Enzo. Now, the Italian masterpiece leaves behind the Ferrari imprint, ditching the V12 engine for the new 3.0-litre twinturbo V6 (called “Nettuno”), capable of a 621 horsepower V6 with a torque of 730 Nm (538 lb-ft). With a weight of less than 1,500 kg, it delivers 0-100 km/h acceleration in under 2.9 seconds, with a top speed over 325 km an hour. The car also uses MTC (Maserati Twin Combustion) technology, a groundbreaking combustion system developed in-house and patented by Maserati. Beyond its hyper-powered heart, the external features of the Maserati are just as impressive. The swing-up butterfly doors, sleek lines and majestic, masculine stance are definite attention grabbers. The exceptional aerodynamics were designed over 2,000 man-hours, and the ergonomics have a drag of less than 0.38. The MC20 is designed to enable coupé and convertible versions, and for full-electric power. The car also includes 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, electronic driver aids including the latest generation in antilock brakes, stability control, and multi-mode traction control. On the inside, Maserati focuses on the ambience along with the driving experience. The two 10-inch screens, one for the cockpit and the other for the Maserati Multimedia System (MIA), are simply designed, with very few sharp edges and minimal distractions. The carbon fiber-clad central console has regular features like driving mode selector (GT, Wet, Sport, Corsa and a fifth, ESC Off, which deactivates the control functions), full connected navigation, multimedia system controls, Alexa integration, Wi-Fi Hotspot, and a handy storage compartment underneath the armrest. The Maserati MC20 comes in six newly developed colors: Bianco Audace, Giallo Genio, Rosso Vincente, Blu Infinito, Nero Enigma and Grigio Mistero. They convey important themes, with a strong reference to Made in Italy and the Maserati tradition.

+PERFECT PAIR 2020 McLaren GT: The love child of a GT and sports car. BY NIKITA PAWAR
THE 2020 MCLAREN GT IS A SUPERCAR THAT’S THRILLING YET REFINED,
The steering is heavy in whichever mode you drive and complements the carbon fibre chassis. The bespoke MonoCell II-T monocoque—the T denotes Touring, which means there is a structure over the engine that also forms part of the underside for the luggage compartment—adds to the unparalleled driving dynamics and the lightest-in-class weight of 1,530 kg (DIN). To add the extra room for luggage, the engine is placed five inches below where it is in the McLaren 720S. The airflow and exhaust are placed as low as possible below the bumper. Power comes from a 4.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V8 engine generating 620S and 630Nm, placing the car between the 570S and 720S. The McLaren GT’s acceleration figures are just 3.2 seconds from 0-100 km/h and hit a top speed of 326km/h. The suspension is a double-wishbone design in lightweight aluminium, paired with hydraulic dampers, an array of sensors and a power control unit to deliver Proactive Damping Control (PDC). Some cars are recognized for their powerful performance and design or their beauty; the McLaren falls into the latter category. Priced at $210,000, it offers a superlative visual and driving experience. The slope effect is different and stylish.

dynamic and engaging. The flip-up dihedral doors are an iconic feature of a sports car, while the above-average space and comfort are a distinctive aspect of a Grand Tourer. The 2020 McLaren GT has the best of both worlds. The interiors are all done in Nappa leather trim; you can upgrade to the softgrain luxury leather or Alcantara®. For the rear luggage bay, there’s the option of SuperFabric ®, the innovative woven fabric infused with a layer of tiny armored guard plates that provide increased resistance to stains, cuts, nicks and abrasions, as well as being breathable, easy to clean and quick to dry. Unlike most GTs or even large cars like the Camry, the McLaren GT offers about 15.5 cubic feet of space—enough to store your golf bag without any cramping. The solid composite roof is standard on the new GT. With a Panoramic Glass Roof, however, you can additionally add the privacy glass or an Electrochromic Panoramic Roof. Using an electrical charge that passes through the glass panel and acts on particles contained within, it can switch from opaque to transparent via five stages at the touch of a button. The rearview camera is placed at the driver’s console rather than on the multimedia unit in the middle. There’s a high-gloss Piano Black finish with brushed aluminium and satinsilver decorative elements on the central infotainment screen, which controls the window switches, gear-selector console and air-vent housings. Sophisticated hidden-until-lit ambient lighting also features; cold to the touch and seemingly solid metallic, subtle chrome trim highlights are embedded in the door casings and passenger side of the dashboard and glow softly once the ignition sequence is activated. Six colors can be individually selected via the central touchscreen.

you’ve seen the most storied and recognized yacht in the sea, Utopia IV, sailing across the blue waters of Biscayne Bay. Owned by powerhouse couple Loren and JR Ridinger, cofounders of Market America SHOP.COM, the jaw-dropping 2018, 63m/206′9″ luxury motor yacht was built by Rossinavi. The beauty has played host to some of the greatest names in the entertainment world as well as personal friends and business associates of the Ridingers, with guests ranging from Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez to Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys, DJ Khaled, Fat Joe, Alejandro Sanz, Carmelo and La La Anthony, Jamie Foxx and many others who have cruised aboard the pinnacle of luxury. Due to the ongoing restrictions of the pandemic and an overall decline in air travel, the yachting industry has taken off this year. “There is an interesting phenomenon going on with the yacht chartering industry during COVID times,” says JR Ridinger. “Superyachts offer an amazing solution for affluent or successful individuals and families or business owners to quarantine or social distance in luxury. Utopia IV is equipped with a digital office, so you can stay connected from anywhere in your own bubble.” To provide the safest environment, the Utopia IV team requires all crew and guests have a current negative COVID-19 test on file with the yacht prior to boarding in order to maintain a “safety bubble.” Over the summer, Utopia IV was an in-demand charter among top billionaire Wall Street titans who wanted to escape the mundaneness of home and safely quarantine at sea—with all the necessities and luxuries available to them throughout their time aboard. Utopia IV was recently reflagged as a United States vessel, honored by the United States Superyacht Association. It’s currently available for charter, sailing in the U.S., the Bahamas and throughout the Caribbean. The yacht is powered by 4 MTU engines of 2600 hp. Utopia IV’s maximum range is estimated at 3,300 nautical miles. The motor yacht can accommodate 12 guests in six cabins, with a crew of 13. Amenities include a beach club, swimming pool, air conditioning, various toys, twin PWCs and all the technology one would expect on such a spectacular vessel. yachts. Founded in the 1970s, the Italian yard that is a subsidiary of Fipa Group has delivered a fleet of breakneck vessels that are made to mesmerise. The company’s latest 115-footer “convertible,” known as Lady Nina, promises to cut your travel time in half thanks to the high-speed planing hull. Debuted at the Genoa Boat Show, this amazing superyacht is the first in Maiora’s new Exuma series and possesses the Italian yard’s signature carbonfiber construction. Both interior and exterior are designed in-house. Built for a repeat client from America, the Lady Nina instantly attracted interest with her grand stature. The spacious sofas and 70-inch concealed TV add to the grandeur of the huge sunbathing area, with access to an infinity pool with a glass backside that gives the impression that you’re swimming toward the horizon. The Lady Nina also boasts a flybridge, which is not only open for navigation in the open air but can also be closed via sliding glass to offer a special dining area. The five-meter tender is stored in the stern garage. The Lady Nina offers a luxurious interior fit for marine connoisseurs, plus an airy aft deck that spans roughly 645 square feet. The majestic boat 44 HAUTE LIVING hauteyachts.com
can host 10 guests across the stately full-beam master suite, a double cabin, a twin cabin plus a Pullman berth and the spacious VIP suite, all located on the lower deck. The best feature, however, may be the refrigerated tequila rack integrated into one of the side columns between the main salon and aft deck — that’s what you call yachting in style! The yacht also has a powerful core: three 1,925 HP Caterpillar C32 Acert engines that work together with AB Yachts, a pioneer of water jet propulsion’s two MJP steerable waterjets. Along with all this power, a central booster jet helps the yacht achieve a maximum speed of 32 knots, a cruising speed of 27 knots and coverage of some 1,600 nautical miles. On top of that, the black hull and white superstructure have a beam of 6.45m, while her draught is 1.8m. The elegance and Herculean build makes the Lady Nina a masterpiece of Italian craftsmanship and the latest know-how!

COLLABORATION Hublot and Berluti take aim at the Big Bang Unico Chronograph.
T H E I M PA C T F U L C O L L A B O R AT I O N O F H U B L O T A N D
Berluti has resulted in quite a few emblematic creations over the past four years. Those models had two things in common: they all featured the exquisite Venezia leather Berluti is known for and used a Hublot Classic Fusion as a base. That changes today as Hublot and Berluti introduce the Big Bang Unico Berluti Cold Brown. Hublot designed the watch in close collaboration with Kris Van Assche, creative director of Berluti. As patina is one of the Berluti trademarks, they decided to give this finishing technique center stage. They selected the vintage ‘Ice Brown’-patina but named the watch Big Bang Unico Berluti Cold Brown, most likely to avoid confusion with an older watch in the Hublot collection called Big Bang Ice. It’s based on a vintage patina and was given a modern edge with a unique glaçage application. This is not the only thing that sets the Big Bang apart. For the 46 HAUTE LIVING hautetime.com
very first time, the Venezia leather is incorporated in the bezel of the watch. Just like the strap, made from the same type of leather, the patina will get richer over time. Hublot’s engineers found the perfect way to incorporate the unique leather on the dial while still allowing for a view of some of the watch’s movement. They achieved this by placing the leather between two pieces of sapphire crystal, giving the Big Bang a vibrant yet understated look. The effect is amplified by the case, made from micro-blasted and polished black ceramic. Hublot’s usual eye for detail is visible in the hands, which are filled with brown luminescent material. They perfectly complement the bezel and the Venezia leather dial, in which the indexes, numerals and even the words “Swiss Made” are embossed. Like the previous watches on which Berluti and Hublot collaborated, this is also a limited edition—only 100 will be made.

+The Chime Is Right The Patek Philippe Ref. 6301P Grande Sonnerie makes its debut.
PERFECTION OFTEN LOOKS SIMPLE, BUT IT RARELY IS.
This is the case with the new Patek Philippe Ref. 6301P Grande Sonnerie. The watch is generously sized, measuring 44.8 mm in diameter, yet rather restrained in its design. Close observation will reveal that it is rich in detail, as the platinum case has a subtle concave bezel and stunning countersunk flanks. The black dial is also a thing of beauty, made from Grand Feu enamel and fitted with gold Breguet numerals. Interestingly, the traditional gold leaf-shaped hands feature a luminescent coating. That subtle detail it gives this classic watch a slight contemporary edge while making it more practical as well. Not that it actually needs assistance being practical—if there’s one watch that keeps you on time, it’s this one. The Ref. 6301P is equipped with both a grande and a petite sonnerie. When the grande sonnerie is activated, every quarter hour, the watch will automatically chime the hour and the corresponding number of quarters. To do so, the watch has three gongs. In petite sonnerie mode, the watch only strikes the number of hours at the full hour and the quarter at the quarter hours. 48 HAUTE LIVING hautetime.com
The switch to select between the two sonnerie types and the silent mode is cleverly integrated between the lugs at 6 o’clock. The watch also has a minute repeater, activated by a pusher integrated into the crown. By turning it clockwise, you wind the movement, which has a power reserve of 72 hours; turning it counterclockwise gives the strikework enough power to run for 24 hours. Each has a power reserve indicator on the dial. The Ref. 6301P Grande Sonnerie comes with interchangeable casebacks, one solid and one fitted with a sapphire crystal. While the solid platinum one makes the watch even more of an understatement, the see-through caseback is too tempting to pass, as it shows the intricate details and superb finish of caliber GS 36-750 PS IRM. This movement is derived from caliber 300, which Patek Philippe used in the Grandmaster Chime. As this movement is wound manually, there is no obstruction to enjoying the handmade anglage or the striking mechanism. The entire movement consists of 703 parts, all working in unity to ensure that the chime is right.

RESCUE Ulysse Nardin turns plastic ocean waste into a spectacular concept watch. BY MARTIN GREEN
PHOTOS COURTESY OF ULYSSE NARDIN
ULYSSE NARDIN HAS ALWAYS HAD A STRONG CONNECTION
with the ocean, evident not only from its watches but from the events the company sponsors. It is, for example, the official timekeeper of the VendÊe Globe. In this challenging yacht race, which takes place every four years, participants sail 21,638 nautical miles (40,075 kilometers) nonstop and unassisted from start to finish. Now, Ulysse Nardin has also set up a special research unit dedicated to studying sustainable innovation for watchmaking projects. It took the first official step in October, when it introduced the R-Strap, made from recycled fishing nets. These nets are not only one of the primary sources of ocean plastic pollution, but also one of the most dangerous. Various aquatic animals can easily get caught in them and die. Now Ulysse Nardin is taking it to the next level with the introduction of the Diver Net. This concept watch has been designed to be as environmentally friendly as possible. The case, middle, back and bezel decorations are made from polyamide pellets. In a previous life, these pellets were discarded fishing nets and have the added advantage of being highly resistant to friction. To protect the dial and the hands, Ulysse Nardin replaced the traditional sapphire crystal with transparent ceramic glass. This takes much less energy to produce, limiting its environmental impact. The Swiss company TIDE has transformed PET plastic waste from the sea into reels of thread, which Ulysse Nardin used to make the strap. The Diver Net is powered by Ulysse Nardin’s manufacture caliber UN-118, with proprietary silicon technology. This watch is proof that there is room to make watchmaking more sustainable. At the same time, it serves as an inspiration that humanity must, and can, do better in protecting the environment. @hautetime HAUTE LIVING 49

Head to Aspen for a taste of unparalleled elegance. Thanks to venues like Matsuhisa and L’Hostaria, it’s also one of the top spots for après-ski gourmands.
MOST GLAMOROUS +THE SKI RESORTS IN AMERICA Can’t get to St. Moritz or Verbier this winter? Ski the posh pistes at home in America instead. BY LAURA SCHREFFLER
ALTHOUGH WE LOVE HITTING EUROPE’S SWISS, FRENCH AND ITALIAN ALPS, WITH TIGHT TRAVEL
restrictions, it just won’t be possible this winter. But we’re not stressing. We’ve got glamorous go-to spots like Aspen and Vail right here at home.
ASPEN There is a plethora of options at your disposal when heading to Aspen, the glitziest of ski resort towns, where you’ll no doubt be surrounded by the rich
and famous — plus four separate mountains in Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands, Snowmass and Buttermilk. For easy access — and it doesn’t get easier than ski-in, ski-out — stay at the storied Little Nell, which celebrated its 30th anniversary late last year. The gorgeous property debuted a living room and
lobby renovation, by acclaimed Spanish architect Luis Bustamante, that includes a screen wall, a wood-paneled bookcase and new décor and furniture, as
well as a chic mirrored ceiling in the lobby level elevator corridor. Gone is former après-ski bar Chair 9. In its place is Wine Bar, a lounge inspired by Wally’s of Beverly Hills, Corkbuzz in New York City and Willi’s Wine Bar in Paris. This haute hotel has also relaunched its Little Nell Wine Academy. Slated for
April 11 through April 14, the theme of this year’s vino event is Old World Classics vs. American Rivals, with an emphasis on wines from Europe against West Coast favorites. Last but certainly not least, fine arts photographer Gray Malin has partnered with the Nell for a vintage ski photo shoot. His series will be on display at the Sundeck Restaurant. 675 E. Durant Ave, Aspen, CO 81611

Take a dip in Amangani’s 115-square-foot infiniity pool to replicate this awe-inspiring view.
JACKSON HOLE AMANGANI Those seeking health, wellness and inner peace should check into the mystical, magical Amangani this winter. It’s truly a “peaceful home” in every
sense of the word: a secluded hilltop retreat on the fringes of Grand Teton National Park, adjacent to but separate from the hustle and bustle of worldfamous ski destination Jackson Hole with its more than 100 trails. Head to the slopes to get your ski fix in while indulging in the resort’s luxurious private lounge in Teton Village at the base of Bridger Gondola, or depart on the Granite Hot Springs Adventure, a full-day guided excursion via
snowmobile or dogsled through the Wyoming winter wonderland. Know that you’ll be returning to a place of incredible beauty, with spacious suites overlooking the Snake River Valley, farm-to-table dining served fireside and a 115-square-foot infinity pool, which allows you to take a quiet, socially distant dip and breathe in the mountain air that envelopes you like a blanket. 1535 NE Butte Rd, Jackson, WY 83001
STOWE
Though there are more mountain ranges on the West Coast, East Coasters looking for sensational skiing head to Stowe for its 485 skiable acres.
PHOTO COURTESY OF ANDERSON JAMES/THE LODGE AT SPRUCE PEAK
THE LODGE AT SPRUCE PEAK While the West is widely known for its incredible runs, the East Coast shouldn’t be discounted, given that it has Stowe in its snow-covered arsenal.
Downhill and backcountry skiers as well as snowboarders fall hard for its 18 miles of ungroomed terrain and vertical drop of 2,360 feet, as well as the
state’s highest mountain, Mount Mansfield, at 4,393 feet. But where to stay? Again, there’s really only one answer, and that’s the Lodge at Spruce Peak, the only ski-in, ski-out hotel in Vermont. Located in the heart of the elevated slope-side community, this luxury property also features a members-only
club for the East Coast jet set, which has its own refined and elegant 20,000-square-foot clubhouse. Stay in one of the penthouses, which include private check-in and lounges, personal concierge services, full gourmet kitchens, private balconies, stone fireplaces, marble-finished bathrooms and floor-toceiling windows with sweeping mountain views. 7412 Mountain Rd, Stowe, VT 05672

PHOTO COURTESY OF SCARP RIDGE LODGE/ELEVEN EXPERIENCES
CRESTED BUTTE SCARP RIDGE LODGE Those seeking adventure, excitement and a completely unique
experience should head to Crested Butte, which has been dubbed Colorado’s last great ski town for its European ski chalet feel and Rocky Mountain style. Eleven Experience’s flagship property in
the Elk Mountains offers the crème de la crème of skiing for those more focused on hitting the slopes than being seen off of them,
thanks to a personalized guide and zero lift lines. Each morning, a
custom-designed snowcat awaits to whisk guests to 1,000-plus acres of exclusive ski terrain in nearby Irwin, which gets an average of
450 inches of snow per year, with legendary cold-smoke powder. Private guides are available to take guests up and down the
mountain to find the deepest powder runs and wide-open alpine bowls or lead them to on-mountain cabins for movies, lunch and
après-ski. Meanwhile, Scarp Ridge Lodge is a darling blast from the past, but with all the modern amenities one could ask for. It plays
up its history as a former Croatian saloon with its old school façade but features an indoor saltwater pool, oxygen-enriched air system, steam room, sauna, gym, media room and rooftop hot tub.
For a romantic Sun Valley dining experience with a rustic, early Western atmosphere, book the Trail Creek Cabin, Originally built in 1937, this mountain-style log cabin turned restaurant sits right next to the rushing waters of Trail Creek, with a splendid view of Bald Mountain in the distance.
Private guides are available to take guests up and down the mountain to find the deepest powder runs and wide-open alpine bowls or lead them to on-mountain cabins (pictured here) for movies, lunch and après-ski.
SUN VALLEY SUN VALLEY INN In recent years, Sun Valley has gained a reputation as the top
celebrity ski spot (watch out, Aspen!), with a slew of low-key stars and billionaires like Mark Zuckerberg, Warren Buffet,
Oprah Winfrey, Demi Moore, Clint Eastwood, Justin Timberlake and Bill Gates buying up property there. And it’s for a good
reason: the gorgeous resort is a good bet for a sunny ski day;
the sun shines 120 days out of 150. There are 121 trails and 2,054 skiable acres on two different mountains, which adventure
seekers adore thanks to the addition of heli-skiing. Given the
sheer amount of celebrities who head here, Sun Valley should
be totally tapped out, but it is not. It is the opposite, retaining an old-world charm that simply demands a repeat visit. For a taste of that vintage Wild West experience, book the Sun Valley Inn.
Though it opened its doors in 1937, a recent remodel means this
historic, Austrian-style ski chalet with quintessentially European décor boasts modern new additions including a steaming
outdoor pool, fitness center, new restaurants and lobby bar. 2 Sun Valley Rd, Sun Valley, ID 83353

PARK CITY
TRAVEL
MONTAGE DEER VALLEY Park City (and adjacent Deer Valley) is one of our favorite places to ski in the U.S. In addition to two major ski areas in close proximity, there are a loads of luxury resorts and a truly charming downtown area in Main Street, with all the dining (the newly opened Courchevel, named after the French ski resort, which happens to be Park
City’s sister city, is a must-try) and high-end shopping your heart desires. It’s also the home of Robert Redford’s Sundance Film Festival, so enough said. When you’re not busy zooming down the 300 trails on more than 7,300 acres, taking historical skiing tours of the city’s mining past or riding around in a horse-drawn sleigh, take some
time to relax at one of the truly staggering winter wonderland hotels. One of our favorite properties is the ski-in, ski-out Montage Deer Valley, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this month. It boasts a world-class, 35,000-square-foot alpine-inspired spa (now featuring Valmont products), the largest in Utah; a Kim Vō salon; a truly PHOTO COURTESY OF MONTAGE DEER VALLEY
amazing art collection, with both local and international pieces; and its own bowling alley and vintage arcade. There’s also a sushi restaurant, as well as the Veuve Clicquot – presented Après Lounge, which offers direct access to the Ruby, Empire and Lady Morgan ski lifts, serving up gourmet bites like caviar, local cheeses and charcuterie
alongside the stellar champagne; and, new this winter, the private Empire Lounge, complete with a cozy fireplace that lends ambiance to this private new experience for
socially distanced dining. Beyond all these offerings, this is truly one of the chicest places to lay your head after a long day on the slopes: all accommodations are arrayed
with estate-quality furnishings; original artwork; Signature Montage 400-thread-count Egyptian cotton bedding and linens; LCD televisions; five-fixture stone bathrooms with separate glass-wall showers; soaking tubs and heated floors; gas fireplaces; scenic alpine views; private balconies or patios; and turndown service with handcrafted chocolates, a homey touch that brings a little extra something to an already resplendent resort. 9100 Marsac Ave, Park City, UT 84060
Bring on the bubbly! The Montage Deer Valley’s Après Lounge is a sparkling, Veuve Clicquot-filled wonderland.
BEAVER CREEK THE RITZ-CARLTON, BACHELOR GULCH
Local elements are found throughout the RitzCarlton, Bachelor Gulch, from the activated charcoal sourced from Colorado mines used in the spa’s signature Miner’s Mineral Mud Wrap to the local ingredients and mountain-inspired cuisine at its on-site eatery, WYLD.
Colorado has some incredible terrain, and Beaver Creek is hands-down one of the best of its mountain resorts. With an average snowfall of 325 inches, 1,832 skiable acres and 150 trails, there’s more than enough to keep any skier or snowboarder
busy. For slope-side access with style, stay at the Ritz-Carlton, Bachelor Gulch, which,
PHOTO COURTESY OF THE RITZ-CARLTON, BACHELOR GULCH
thanks to its own chairlift, abundance of outdoor space heaters, twinkling lights and comfortable seating, offers one heck of an après-ski experience. Come to hit
the slopes, but stay for offerings like its outdoor Moët & Chandon champagne and raw bar, located mountain-side in front of a roaring outdoor fire; limitless outdoor adventures, including fresh tracks snowshoeing; a world-class, 21,000-square-foot
spa sanctuary with a heated outdoor pool and hot tubs; and, new for the 2020 – 2021 season, Sakaba, a sushi lounge serving traditional Japanese cuisine, with fresh fish flown in daily from Japan.

HEAVENLY SKI RESORT AT LAKE TAHOE
The stunning Heavenly Ski Resort at Lake Tahoe has the highest elevation, the steepest vertical drop and the most skiable acres of any ski resort on the West Coast.
EDGEWOOD TAHOE Heavenly Ski Resort is a blessed secret — 4,800 skiable acres, the most in Lake Tahoe — with a drop of 3,500 vertical feet,
which is unmatched on the West Coast, and an elevation of 10,067 feet, the highest in Lake Tahoe. With its 97 trails ranging from wide-open cruisers to plunging, 1,600-foot chutes, it’s truly designed for anyone seeking the ultimate ski experience. Those who want a hotel that rivals the awe-inspiring time they’ll have on the slopes should stay at Edgewood Tahoe, a

TELLURIDE LUMIÈRE WITH INSPIRATO Telluride sometimes feels like an insider secret, one that
travelers return to time and time again for its over 2,000 skiable miles and devil-may-care atmosphere (this is
no joke — many skiers here thrill-seek by heli-skiing,
where they’re dropped by helicopter into the Colorado wilderness). But there’s always a place for luxury, too, and that need has been filled in spades by Lumière
with Inspirato. This award-winning property, perched 9,540 feet high, boasts a ski-in, ski-out location at the
base of Lift 4 in Mountain Village. Amenities include a hot tub, sauna, warm plunge pool and black-tie ski
services, including a ski valet with boot warmers and personalized fittings.

The most outstanding offering at Lumière with Inspirato is its 10-bedroom penthouse, which combines three penthouse units to create a place you’ll definitely be hard-pressed to leave. Think: multiple decks with staggering mountain views from every angle, three private rooftop hot tubs and a chef’s kitchen with Wolf and Sub-Zero appliances.

BIG SKY
For some serious good luck (and don’t we all need it?), head to the Ranch’s Silver Dollar Saloon, a cowboy saloon/club that takes its name from the lucky silver dollars embedded in the bar.
THE RANCH AT ROCK CREEK Not everyone is looking for furs, diamonds and a Michelin-star meal attached to their true luxury. And when the world seems to have fallen apart,
sometimes what’s needed is wide-open space and the room to make some happy new memories. There’s no better place to do so than under Montana’s Big
Sky and at the Ranch at Rock Creek, a rustic yet oh-so-elegant five-star on 6,600 acres of rugged wilderness on the outskirts of Philipsburg. The Ranch offers

an array of rustic yet elegant accommodations, including luxury suites in the Granite Lodge, authentic log cabins and historic barn accommodations. The property also features a 2,000-square-foot spa and a 5,300-square-foot event barn. Guests can enjoy on-property snowshoeing, snowmobiling, horseback
riding, horse-drawn sleigh rides, ice skating and sledding, as well as trips to Discovery Ski Area, a quaint alpine ski destination located just 25 minutes away and equipped with a ski concierge available exclusively to Ranch guests. It’s a wonderful alternative for luxury travelers who want the comprehensive
Montana ski experience but still want a five-star place to stay (though if you truly want a trip to Big Sky Resort, its 5,800 acres of skiable terrain are only a three-hour jaunt away).

A Q&A with Ramazan Patak, founder of Globaltex Fine Linens.

RAMAZAN PATAK FOUNDED GLOBALTEX FINE LINENS IN 2015, WITH THE VISION TO GIVE THE HOSPITALITY
industry high-quality product never seen or used before. Patak recognized the need for linens that would be able to withstand commercial-grade washing machines. He traveled to Denizli, Turkey, well known as the textile capital of the world, to work with a manufacturer to bring his dream to life. Opening its doors in South Florida, Globaltex quickly rose up the ranks to become a main supplier for the strong hospitality sector. Here, Patak joins Haute Residence for a look on how Globaltex has developed, grown, adapted to this year’s pandemic, and into the future.
Haute Residence: How did you come about founding Globaltex? Ramazan Patak: I founded Globaltex Fine Linens in 2015. I have closely worked with the hospitality industry before and I realized the products hotels were using were bad, they would not last long and the quality was not the best. They were in need of good, luxury linens that would not get destroyed after a few washes. So I decided to develop those products and went to Denizli, Turkey, which is known to be the textile mainland of the world, and began working with the best manufacturers in the area to create what I envisioned. And that is what brought me here, our clients believe in our products, they know they’re high quality, so the business keeps growing and we are always looking for ways to improve and expand. HR: Since its inception, what have clients and the target audience of Globaltex identified as the company’s main service? Why? RP: Our main target audience has always been five-star hotels, resorts, and luxury properties, the reason behind that is easy, we love and care about luxury and we want our clients to understand and care about it too. Each one of our products is carefully thought from its conception to the production to the moment a client receives it. We focus on details and the experience one of our products will make the person feel. That is why we want our clients to be able to appreciate and enjoy what we do. HR: In which ways has this year’s pandemic had an effect on your business and how you market it? RP: Of course, at first, it was hard, because as I mentioned before we make business with the hospitality industry and it’s no secret that hotels, resorts, and even restaurants were of the most affected industries during this pandemic. But as I’m sure many of the business out there did it, we took a moment to think about what we wanted to do and how could we do it. And we decided it was time to adapt right now, so we could expand in the future. With our knowledge of textiles, we decided to produce masks and that helped us a lot during tougher times. And we also decided it was time to explore an idea that had to do with textiles too but with a different focus, our Hand Sanitizing Wipes. Those two helped us keep our business going and our minds focusing on the fact that better days are coming. HR: What do you envision for the present and future of the company? RP: We like to think big; that helps us achieve our goals. And right now, our biggest goal is to be the best linen supplier for hotels and homes in the world; we are working hard and producing high-quality products that will help us get there. At the moment, we are focusing on opening offices in some of the main cities in the world. Starting from here in the United States, we already have two showrooms and offices. And we also have our office/showroom in Turkey, so we are looking forward to expanding into Europe too. There are a lot of great things coming for Globaltex, we are working hard and keeping our minds positive. We will be here for a long time and this is just the beginning.
