ast year on December 14, Will Smith finally joined the world of social media. From his inspirational and instructional Instagram posts to his YouTube channel, it has become clear that he has found his purpose and the platform to share who he truly is. This unprecedented change in the notoriously private star came after a self-imposed two-year hiatus from filmmaking where he disconnected from the world at large to reconnect with himself. Since then, Smith has worked on multiple film projects, three of them to be released in 2019, started a water company, JUST Water, with his son Jaden Smith, made music with Nicky Jam, Marc Anthony and Bad Bunny, and celebrated his 50th birthday with an epic leap from a helicopter into the Grand Canyon. Here, the father of three gets personal with Haute Living and gives us some insight into what brings him the most joy, what drives him and what he is committed to. You recently announced the filming of Bad Boys 3 (aka Bad Boys for Life). What is happening with that? It’s been a long-ass time. We start in January 2019. We will be a few weeks in Miami, but there are a few other locations―shooting some of it in Atlanta, and there will be some of it in South America somewhere. That was my first time seeing Martin [Lawrence] in a while; we did a table read, and that chemistry is eternal. We are just good together. There is a magic between us that is just beautiful to watch and beautiful to be a part of. And the story is crazy―I think people will be surprised. One of the benefits of us being so young when we made the first one is we weren’t really seasoned performers and filmmakers, so there was a rough rawness to it that was fun, but this is the best screenplay we have ever had. People have been away for a while, so it’s an opportunity for the third one to be the best of them all. You have been busy. You have been filming all over the world, and one of the things that has changed this year is the way you have allowed the public into your life. What inspired you to do that? I think a couple of things happened―one of the major things that happened is that I hit that midlife-crisis point, where I’ve built all of the things I’ve ever dreamed of. And in my family―2012 I secretly call the year of the mutiny. And 2012 was really the year that my family rejected the direction of my leadership. And that was the main thing that happened. My father was in the military, and he ran the house like a military unit. We had to put 16 HAUTE LIVING hauteliving.com
hospital corners on our bed, my shoes lined up in the closet. He was in the Air Force, so he dealt with the family like a soldier. And he had a family business. I was used to the whole family working the family business and being run like a military unit. You follow orders, you have goals, you achieve things and there’s punishment from the higher ranks if you don’t do what you are told to do. I lightened up on it a little bit, but the things that I brought in from my childhood were, we are in a family business, we all work together and I’m in command; I’m the leader, and the way that we win is by everyone doing what I say. Willow was really the first person during “Whip My Hair” that decided she didn’t want to do what I said. Because she was the baby girl, she really had the most power over me. As a man―if your daughter says no, there’s really nothing you can do. She really tested me. She was like, no she didn’t want to. She was done with “Whip My Hair.” She was done with performing, and as a protest she shaved her head bald. That was really the first time that I realized that my family wasn’t happy with the direction that I was taking them. I felt like I was winning. We were succeeding. We had Karate Kid [starring Jaden]. We had “Whip My Hair.” Jada had Hawthorne, and we hosted when Barack Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize―we hosted all of that in one year. I felt we were doing well, and my family wasn’t happy. So, I took two years off. I met Makayla, who studied under David Deida, who is the author of the book The Way of the Superior Man, and I started reading his work, and I was like, “Oh my God, he understands.” I literally worked with Makayla for two years. Trying to figure out what I didn’t know about my family being happy. And I didn’t work―I didn’t make a movie for two years. I knew there was more I needed to know other than conquering in movies, conquering in television, conquering in music and entertainment. I had done all this conquering, but no one around me was happy. So, I shut it down, and in that time I discovered so much new wisdom, so many new ideas. I traveled, and I met people, I studied. I probably read 50 books in the last four years. The most reading I’ve done in my life. Because I disappeared from the world, I fueled up and I started putting my toes back into it, and everything was different. I felt like Neo in The Matrix. Everything I tried to do was easy. And I was looking for how to share the new ideas, to share the new information in the form of artistry ―how was I going to deliver my message. And then I worked with David Ayer on Bright. And with Bright, I worked with Netflix, and that was my first introduction to the power of digital media and all of the interconnectivity. When they were explaining it and its reach, it sounded just like all the spiritual ideas I had been studying. I couldn’t believe how close the ideas that they were talking about in regards to selling a movie were to the ideas of the Bhagavad Gita. I got wildly inspired about how I would deliver the lessons that I had learned to the world in this new media, and social media became that outlet for me. What does life look like on the other side of that epic jump into the Grand Canyon? What are you committing to now? I am still exploring and experiencing and experimenting. So, every day I want to stay on the edge of my comfort zone because that’s where the lessons are. I’m committed to learning, and I’m committed to serving because that’s what brings me the most joy. So, I want to explore, experience and experiment with the purpose of acquiring wisdom and divine understanding and applying that to my service of the human family. My life is really simplified down to those ideas, and I trust that all the other things will come. If I commit to those ideas and if I commit to service, then all the other things that I used to crave will come with that. Love is going to come with that, and friendship and money will come with that. I don’t have to seek money. I seek service, and the higher the quality of my service, the

more money that I make. I’m always looking for how to care for people and entertain, inspire and instruct in the best ways, and I feel confident that all the other things that I desire will be born of those things. What’s the biggest takeaway after your jump? What is the lesson? For me, it was the danger of hesitation. If you hesitate on the ground, you hesitate before you think you are going to do something. If you hesitate in the middle, that can really be dangerous. The guy said to me right before, “The only way you can get hurt is if you don’t get away from this chopper.” He said, “I’m going to start counting down from five, and when we get to one, we are going to let go of the bungee cord, and this bungee cord has an equivalent weight of about 400 lbs., and it will snatch you down. If you do not get away from this chopper is the only way you can get hurt.” It was such a powerful spiritual idea that I had to leap off into fear and leap into the unknown, and you do all your thinking before you are in the moment. You think it, you work it out, you do all your research, but once you go, you have to go. It was a very, very powerful lesson in deciding. You couldn’t possibly know all the variables of any given circumstance. You never can really make a thoroughly researched decision because all of the factors that go into it are infinite! So, you are only making an educated guess anyway. And it’s not really educated. You kind of make a snap decision at the last moment because you couldn’t possibly know. You are guessing. You can educate yourself, but it’s much more about feeling the moment than it is thinking the moment. You do your thinking, you let it go and then you have to commit. The idea of committing is so powerful versus hesitating and complaining.
You have a very close relationship with your kids. What is the biggest lesson you have learned from them? That they are not mine. I thought about them as mine for so long, and as soon as I realized that they are their own people that belong to God, our relationships got spectacular. That I want to help them to become what they want to become rather than try to force them to become what I want them to be. I want them to behave the way they want to behave and reap the benefits and punishments of their behavior versus trying to force them to behave the way I want them to behave. You spent a lot of time investing in music this year. Nicky Jam, Marc Anthony, Bad Bunny… Can we expect to hear more from you? Are you working on an album? In my spiritual process I don’t plan anymore. I’ve relinquished planning. I try to stay awake from moment to moment, and when I look at the sky and I look at the ocean there’s an energy that plans better than me, and I try to allow that energy to plan my life. The energy that created the stars, the energy that beats my heart and the energy that makes the ocean go in and out. I try to let that energy plan my life. I talk about it like the second level of the video game. The first level of the video game is about discipline and planning and structured endurance. And now, I feel like I’m on the second level, and it’s much more about being than it is about doing. I’ve mastered planning and conquering, and now I’m trying to harness the power of stillness and wondering. I’m just having fun. My plan is to play and dance.
“I WANT TO STAY ON THE EDGE OF MY COMFORT ZONE BECAUSE THAT’S WHERE THE LESSONS ARE. I’M COMMITTED TO LEARNING, AND I’M COMMITTED TO SERVING BECAUSE THAT’S WHAT BRINGS ME THE MOST JOY.” Let’s talk a little bit about Red table Talk. Red Table Talk has also allowed us an intimate look inside your world through the most important women in your life. How has that impacted you? I think the big thing is how perfectly it worked out for Jada―that’s the most important aspect to me. She has finally found a lane for her voice. Acting didn’t really do it for her; music didn’t really do it for her; parenting didn’t really give her the full expression that she wanted. Starting a family was beautiful for her, but it wasn’t the full expression of herself that she had been seeking. And Red Table Talk was the first thing I’ve ever seen where she gets to be her fully unapologetic and doesn’t have to feel unwelcomed or judged. She’s always felt that her voice was too abrasive for people. She couldn’t say things the way she wanted. And what happens with the Red Table Talk―she gets to shoot at home, she comes down, she has breakfast and walks in the other room and just talks. This beautiful freedom that she’s never had, that for me is that thing that I always tried to help her with that has taken two decades for her to find. And in terms of Willow, I just love that she gets to sit at that table with her mother and grandmother and hear their life stories and their experiences and gets to sit and talk to brilliant people. It’s a spectacular education for Willow. I’m humbled when I watch that girl hold her own on that red table at 18. And I also look at the red table and think, “I’m doing something right.” I’m balling! I want to create space for women to blossom. Part of the deepest joy of my heart is crafting gardens for women in my life to be safe, nourished and empowered, and Red Table being shot in our home just makes me feel great about myself.
Let’s talk about JUST Water. What are your plans with the company? JUST Water is Jaden’s baby, and the family is supporting him in the creation and nurturing of his vision. The environment is his main philanthropic focus. JUST is really the beginning. We started with water, but JUST is an idea, and we are hoping to grow JUST into a movement and into a community of people that are focused on conscious consumption. There’s a way that we run the company and a way that we deal with the environment and the towns that we work in and the people that we work with that we are hoping to expand through multiple companies and multiple arenas. There’s a certain consciousness that the brand was born with that we hope to build and expand and partner in creating a more harmonious future between humans and the environment. In your YouTube channel, who is your audience? I speak really generally. I try not to think about a target audience. I try to create material that is simple enough and fun enough for young people to enjoy, but also that it has an idea or depth to it that is hearty enough for older people to watch. I’m always trying to create with the idea that anybody and everybody could be sitting there at the same time. And a part of that is having an idea at the center of the pieces that are human ideas. Everybody is looking to be entertained, so I want to maintain the entertainment element, but there’s also instruction that goes along. So, I am doing this at a level that whoever is watching will be entertained, inspired and instructed.

ART
FEATURE
power players
we’ve sat down with some of the city’s greatest power players in the art world to get their insider’s perspective on some of the hottest artists and trends of the moment, why art is important, the growing art scene in Miami and what to look out for during this year’s Art Basel season.
JORGE PÉREZ Founder, Chairman & CEO, Related Group Who are some of your favorite artists? I have many favorites, but right now, I’m particularly focused on African art, especially after I realized how much influence it holds over artists coming out of Cuba, the Caribbean and of course Miami. I’ve recently acquired works by Moshekwa Langa from South Africa, Misheck Masamvu and Kudzanai Chiurai from Zimbabwe and Chéri Samba and Moké from the Congo. Another core is American art. I am thrilled with the recent acquisition of great works by masters such as Helen Frankenthaler, Frank Stella, Michael Goldberg, Stanley Whitney, Norman Bluhm, Larry Rivers and Joan Mitchell. What are some trends in the art world that you are loving right now? I don’t necessarily follow all trends because I like to find art or artists that I have a strong, personal connection with. Right now, I see a lot of powerful, contemporary art coming out of Cuba, and I think it reveals a lot about the history of the small island and its disproportionately large influence on the art world. What inspiration do you draw from to showcase your artistic style? I find most of my inspiration through travel and make it a point to attend several major art fairs around the world every year. I take the trips as an opportunity to visit local galleries and museums, which allows me to personally meet many local artists, collectors and curators. Having these personal interactions gives me a more in-depth understanding of their vision so that I may integrate their artwork into future projects or in my personal collection in a way that aligns with their creative process.
Why is the expression of art important to you? Art’s power lies in its ability to elicit a response from everyone who it comes in contact with. Each person walks away with their own interpretation and subsequently their own unique relationship with the work. This incredible power extends to public art, which is why we place such a high emphasis on commissioning and installing museum-quality art at each and every one of our projects. The different pieces become landmarks for residents and visitors, and help each neighborhood develop a distinct look and personality. It also makes art accessible to a wide variety of audiences, which is simply amazing. Art to me is the visual interpretation of our immediate past and present times―it represents the beauty of both. It makes me think and helps me to understand the world in which we live. Some of our most recent examples of art in public places include Jaume Plensa’s Awilda in Museum Park, Fernando Botero’s Male Torso at SLS LUX Brickell, as well as the gorgeous murals by Mexican artist Omar Barquet at the Paraiso District in Edgewater. How would you describe the art scene in Miami? Miami has the potential to be a cornerstone for the ongoing conversation on contemporary art. As the crossroads of the Americas, this city has both a privileged geographical location and an extraordinary cultural heritage. Global events like Art Basel Miami Beach have definitely played a role in placing the city on the global stage, but since then, the local arts scene has continued to grow and evolve at an incredible pace. The next major step will be ensuring there is a strong framework of funding and organizations dedicated to supporting the next generation of local talent. This includes funding for their work as well as strong mentors who can help guide these emerging artists take the next steps in their careers. Organizations like the National YoungArts Foundation, The Miami Foundation and the Knight Foundation are already making great strides, but more needs to be done. What are you most looking forward to during Art Basel Miami 2018? Although it’s one of the busiest times of my year, I love everything about Art Week. It’s a chance to see friends and peers, but also an opportunity to see all of the world’s best artists and collections concentrated in one location.
BY PAIGE MASTRANDREA
I’m definitely looking forward to the annual arts brunch I host at my home in Coconut Grove. It’s become a great tradition and is a chance to invite new and old friends into my home to see the collection, discuss the week’s events and catch up. This Basel is also special as we’re planning on releasing a new book taking a unique look at Cuban art. More to come on that soon!
CRAIG ROBINS CEO, Dacra Development Who are some of your favorite artists? I admire the work of a lot of artists, all for different reasons. I have a version of Marcel Duchamp’s 3 Standard Stoppages, which I love. I also collect a lot of John Baldessari’s work. I am a big fan. Urs Fischer is also doing some very interesting work. I was thrilled last year to be able to debut his site-specific piece, Bus Stop, in the Miami Design District. It’s also been great to see how Njideka Akunyili Crosby’s work has developed. I was an early supporter of her, and I will be exhibiting two major works by her this year during Art Basel What are some trends in the art world that you are loving right now? I’m not usually into trends but have always had interest in emerging artists. I like solid works across a broad range of styles and appreciate the various visions of diverse artists. Recently, I acquired works by Tschabalala Self, which are hybrids of collage, painting, drawing and sewing. I also acquired several new works by Christina Quarles. One of my favorite acquisitions by a more-established artist is Urs Fischer’s wax figure of Julian Schnabel. If it speaks to me, then I am interested regardless of trends.

IN HONOR OF ART BASEL MIAMI BEACH 2018,
A n i n s i d e r ’ s lo o k from the biggest names in the Miami art scene in honor of the upcoming Art Basel Miami Beach 2018.
Why is the expression of art important to you? Art, at its very essence, is an expression of our humanity. It’s a conversation, a connective thread that defines and redefines our collective and individual experiences. Great art evokes emotion and intellectual rigor. It delights us, angers us, challenges our thinking and provokes us to look at the world around us in different ways. Mainly, for me, I enjoy an inexplicable sense of connection that I get when I look at an interesting work of art. In my opinion, the expression of art is as essential to life as spoken language or mathematics.

How would you describe the art scene in Miami? The Miami art scene is vibrant and keeps growing. Art and design have always been in the DNA of this city― just look at how it’s integrated into the neighborhoods both past and present. The Miami Design District serves as a great example of a community here that injected culture into its very fabric. Over the last 16 years with the emergence of Art Basel Miami Beach and Design Miami/, we’ve just seen an explosion of creative expression throughout the city, and Miami has really taken its place on the global stage. While the art and design programming in the city is phenomenal year-round with museums like the ICA, PAMM and The Bass, every year the December fairs bring with them an influx of incredible exhibitions, talent and programming that rightly attracts an international audience. While that programming is only temporary, it has a lasting impact on the art scene in Miami. What are you most looking forward to during Art Basel Miami 2018? Art Week in Miami can be an overwhelming experience. There’s simply so much amazing programming happening all it once. You really need to prioritize what you are going to do, knowing you can’t do everything. Spending quality time at the Convention Center―taking in all that Art Basel Miami Beach and Design Miami/ have to offer is really central to my week every year. I am also looking forward to the programming we have lined up in the Miami Design District. There will be new installations, live performances, public art tours and a special holiday commission by Dozie Kanu, among other things. Jeffrey Deitch and Larry Gagosian are once again teaming up to present a co-curated exhibit in the Moore Building. This year, I am very pleased that the Design District is supporting an exhibition curated by David Adjaye and Theaster Gates for (RED). The foundation will host an auction of the works from that exhibition with Sotheby’s. It is going to be one of the best events of the week. Even better than being a great event, it will be supporting a great cause. FRANKLIN SIRMANS Director, Pérez Art Museum Miami Who are some of your favorite artists? Jean-Michel Basquiat, Constantin Brâncuşi, Teresita Fernández, Beatriz González, Ebony Patterson and Lee Quinones. What are some trends in the art world that you are loving right now? It feels as though we expect more of our artists today. Not only should the work be beautiful, but there should also be a playful element of fun.
I love those trends, but what makes me happy is that a dose of social activism is also being embraced and expected of our artists today.
What inspiration do you draw from to showcase your artistic style? I don’t know if I have an artistic style. I have always wanted to show artists whose work bridged fields of thought and broke down barriers between elements of culture. Take a look at Arthur Jafa’s Love is the Message ... at PAMM, and you will find histories of not only film [which it is], but dance, fashion, sport, theater, spirituality and on and on. Why is the expression of art important to you? Because I continue to believe that art represents us―all human beings―in our finest moments. And, we need those moments with greater and greater urgency.
inspire dialogue, provoke thought, encourage action and create beauty and hope. Salvador Dali said it best: “An artist is not one who is inspired but one who inspires others.” How would you describe the art scene in Miami? The art scene in Miami continues to grow and evolve. More and more we see the marriage of art and architecture in new projects; we are seeing that others are adapting to one of Goldman Properties’ original ideas that art as a crucial component in place-making. What are you most looking forward to during Art Basel Miami 2018? I am always excited for our Basel programming. This year, we will have nine artists come and add their mark to the Wynwood Walls. I am seeing the concepts now, and I truly cannot wait for everyone to see the amazing talent that we are so lucky to work with. For the first time ever our gallery at the Wynwood Walls, the GGA Gallery, will have a solo show by an amazing Portuguese artist. This is going to be a great year.
How would you describe the art scene in Miami? Growing. What are you most looking forward to during Art Basel Miami 2018? Sharing our exhibitions: Arthur Jafa, Lynne Gelfman, Christo and Ebony Patterson among them, and our beautiful museum!
JESSICA GOLDMAN SREBNICK CEO, Goldman Properties Who are some of your favorite artists? I find great joy in constantly discovering new artistic talent and immersing myself into the works of artists whom I’ve admired for many years. This year’s Wynwood Walls artists selection is a combination of both. The most exciting trend I am seeing over the last year in the art world is the idea that the consumer is now demanding an infusion of creativity into where they work, play and live. That means more opportunity for talented artists to contribute beauty to the world. What inspiration do you draw from to showcase your artistic style? I am a big believer that everyone has the ability to be artistic. It is a function of infusing creative thinking and execution into all that you do―how you structure a deal, how you design a product, how you communicate to a customer, how you create an experience. There is inspiration everywhere―by being curious and having your eyes open to the world around you, you will find it.
GARY NADER Gary Nader Art Centre Who are some of your favorite artists? My taste is everywhere there is substance—Botero, Matta, Lam, Picasso, Van Gogh, Warhol, Dali, to name a few. What are some trends in the art world that you are loving right now? I am not a fan of trends. I actually despise them— great art is forever and never a trend! Trends disappear with time. What inspiration do you draw from to showcase your artistic style? I do my own thing, which is very different from everyone else. I don’t follow patterns because what inspires me to collect and show my art is never the market―it’s just what I found interesting. Why is the expression of art important to you? Is your soul important? How would you describe the art scene in Miami? Very young and lots to do yet—a lot. But it’s very exciting at the same time, and that makes it fascinating! What are you most looking forward to during Art Basel Miami 2018? Besides the plethora of great art to enjoy, I love all of the characters that come into town at that time.
Why is the expression of art important to you? Art is not meant to answer questions but to @hauteliving HAUTE LIVING 23

+Roger Dubuis VELVET Roger Dubuis Velvet: Haute Horlogerie with a feminine touch BY MARTIN GREEN
the best is good enough. This becomes clear when you look at the “Velvet,” its collection of ladies’ watches. Each is as rich as the fabric that inspired its name, combining exquisite craftsmanship, eye for detail as well as a superb movement, all in an original design. Roger Dubuis let the design take the lead with this watch. This is not something every manufacture has the luxury of doing, since complex designs also require the craftsmanship, expertise and machines to make them a reality. With its unusually shaped case, full of intricate details, the Velvet is not easy to craft, but it’s certainly worth the effort as it results in one of the most original ladies’ watches currently available. While the watches all share the same basic shape of the case, Roger Dubuis made subtle differences that give each member of the Velvet collection its own personality. The Blossom Velvet Pink features a mother-of-pearl dial in which petals are linked to each other by gold branches and highlighted by diamond-set flowers. In addition, the rose gold case is set with brilliant-cut flowers, serving as the perfect frame of this piece of horological art. The Velvet by Massaro takes a completely different approach, by putting an emphasis on the unique shape of the watch case. Crafted from white gold, it is set with brilliant-cut diamonds, which we also find on the dial. Roman numerals add a bit of classic style to this watch, while the extraordinary pleated Haute Couture strap made from leather give this Velvet loads of character. At first glance, the Secret Heart looks like the most “ordinary” member of the Velvet collection, if there is such a thing. However, it is fitted with a unique bi-retrograde jumping date complication. This raises the center of the dial slightly, adding even more depth to the design. With this watch, Roger Dubuis shows that beauty and practicality can be merged together in a single creation. Beauty is also something that goes deeper than just the outside. All watches in the Velvet collection are fitted with automatic movements that are crafted in the brand’s manufacture in Geneva. Each one wears the Geneva Seal, which is evidence of the extremely high finishing of the movements. For Roger Dubuis, it is a way of life, with no detail too small to work tirelessly to make sure it is the best it possibly can be. 64 HAUTE LIVING hautetime.com

Hublot and Richard Orlinski join forces again to launch Classic Fusion Aerofusion Chronograph Orlinski México To celebrate Mexico, luxury Swiss watch manufacturer Hublot has joined forces again with famed French sculptor, Richard Orlinski, to create a green-hued Classic Fusion Aerofusion Chronograph Orlinski México. The green coloring symbolizes hope and independence and is also a tribute to the beautiful country, as it is one of the main colors in its flag. “It’s an honor for Hublot, as we love Mexico so much, to share with friends the work of Richard Orlinski,” began Ricardo Guadalupe, Global CEO of Hublot. “[He is] an artist whose bestiary of sculptures already features the emblems marking the power of the Mexican flag—the snake and the eagle. Is this chance or fate?” The timepiece is distinctly Orlinski, with its rocky, beveled exterior and edges that reflect the light. Limited to only 30 pieces, one of the main attributes of the watch is the 12-faceted case in green ceramic. Orlinski used a three-dimensional cambering technique to achieve this aesthetic. The green, as mentioned, is one of the key colors in the Mexican flag, while other flag components are also prominently included on the timepiece. For instance, the second-hand on the dial is colored red, while the HUB1155 skeleton self-winding chronograph movement has the symbolic eagle and snake—symbolizing Earth and Heaven—as imagined by Orlinski. He also revealed a gorgeous statue, bearing the two animals, at SIAR in Mexico. “I’m delighted to have designed the new Classic Fusion Orlinski Mexico with the Hublot teams,” began the Hublot ambassador. “For me, this colorful land was a real source of inspiration and made me want to create a collection of sculptures celebrating Mexico.”

+the big reveal A Look at Moran Yacht & Ship’s Illustrious 95m KISMET BY DELLVIN ROSHON WILLIAMS
more specifically his boat, is immediately evident as you step onboard KISMET,” says Christopher Callahan, Broker and Marketing Director at Moran Yacht & Ship Inc., world-class leader in the sale, construction and charter of luxury superyachts. Having set the standard for with the first KISMET (now renamed Global), billionaire Jacksonville Jaguars and Fulham Football Club owner Shahid Khan’s second KISMET is no less unforgettable. Delivered by Lürssen in 2014 and designed by Espen Oeino, KISMET remains one of the world’s most iconic superyachts and is still very much ahead of its time. Available for charter and sale for the first time with Moran Yacht & Ship, the 95.2m (13.8m beam) KISMET is a custom motor yacht outfitted to accommodate 12 guests in seven cabins (including two VIP suites), has three outdoor lounges spaces, a pool and hot tub complex that is every bit as opulent as its extravagant, highprofile passengers—Jay-Z and Beyoncé among them. KISMET is the culmination of a six-year journey, one in which the expansion of Khan’s wealth and influence also coincided with a need to accommodate a growing, adrenaline-fueled constituency. Unlike the first KISMET, however, 68m wasn’t enough. According to the story, Khan’s design brief contained three words: “make it impressive.” And impressive it is. KISMET comes with its very own cinema, a full-service spa, indoor/outdoor dining spaces for 12 (bar included) and a formal interior dining room with a staircase that leads to the ballroom (as one would expect). There are also two helipads, 70 HAUTE LIVING hauteyachts.com

“I THINK THE OWNER’S PASSION FOR YACHTING, AND
Haute one on the foredeck, doubling as a basketball court; the other, an outdoor lounge. The upper foredeck also boasts a large mosaic-tiled pool with an inset Jacuzzi. Vision is the key, as Callahan explains: “Owner requirements certainly dictate concepts and design. The majority of owners that we work with have either chartered or owned other vessels and base their requirements on previous experience. This is the main factor that drives their concept and design … The amount of detail and thought that went into building [KISMET] is honestly incredible.” Spread out over five decks, the Reymond Langton-designed “Champagne & Caviar” interior concept features a doubleheight main salon spanning the main and upper deck aft via a sweeping staircase perfect for nightcaps, morning joe or corporate entertaining. Cruising at 14 knots and a maximum speed of 17 knots, KISMET can effortlessly reach 6,000 nautical miles from 220,000 fuel tanks. KISMET’s availability comes at a time when yacht builders and brokers are riding the wave of increased sales. But in an industry that’s seen its share of challenges, Callahan is quick to point out that Moran Yacht & Ship’s approach to luxury shipping―making expertly crafted luxury experiences integral to its state-of-the-art attention to detail―is why the brand has loomed large in the minds of yachting enthusiasts for nearly three decades. “While there have been some market gyrations recently, we continue to be optimistic on all fronts [sales, charter, new construction],” he says. “As a testament to this, we have recently signed a 116m new build project called Project TESTAROSSA.”

Furthermore, the trend toward eco-friendly technology onboard superyachts has not been lost. As the UConn School of Business grad proudly notes regarding the Ken Freivokhdesigned 106m Oceanco BLACK PEARL, “The concept was to create one of the world’s most technologically advanced superyachts offering true zero-emissions cruising— virtually unheard of, especially for a yacht of her size. I think we will continue to see more advancement on this front, since the environment and seeking its natural beauty is a cornerstone of yachting.” Moran Yacht & Ship currently has eight projects in progress ranging from 64m to 142m. In 2018 alone, the firm signed 109m, 116m and 118m projects. Due for delivery next year is the 95m Lürssen Project FIJI. FIJI will be available for charter this summer in the Mediterranean and, according to Callahan, “will definitely be one of the highest-profile charter yachts afloat.” With brand DNA like this, projects of such remarkable passion are no wonder why KISMET remains a true masterpiece. @hauteliving HAUTE LIVING 71

THERE ARE LESS-CREATIVE WAYS TO PRESS RESET THAN BY
staging pure aviation theater―for $5 million. But the new and improved HondaJet has done just that. Honda Aircraft Company’s launch of the HondaJet Elite has been extraordinary; the response, overwhelming. But there’s more to the Ferragamo stiletto-inspired HA-420 upgrade. With a travel range of 1,437 nautical miles and a maximum speed of 485 mph, the HondaJet Elite reaches an altitude of 8,000 feet, maxing out at 43,000 feet. The seven-seater also incorporates efficient aerodynamic design with over-the-wing engine mounts, an all-glass touchscreen cockpit for two, a fully enclosed belted lavatory—unavailable on most light jets―and the Bongiovi Aviation system that converts interior panels into speakers. Having achieved FAA certification and delivered 17 jets in the first half of 2018 alone, the HondaJet Elite is making headway among the world’s ever-expanding millionaire class. Michimasa Fujino, President and CEO of Honda Aircraft Company, talks exclusively to Haute Living about pioneering technological advancement, best-in-class performance and being the mostdelivered aircraft in its class. Haute Living (HL): HondaJet Elite is the most-delivered luxury light jet in its class. Why? Michimasa Fujino (MF): When I set out to design a business jet, I wanted to create new value in the aviation industry by providing users with the most-advanced technologies such as state-of-the-art aerodynamics and composite structure. The HondaJet is a clean sheet design and the result of years of aeronautical research. Our meticulous attention to detail, design and engineering offer customers the best performance, efficiency and comfort in its class. Also, dedication to bettering the industry and to improving the lives of our customers accounts for the HondaJet’s success. HL: Are we seeing a transition from luxury large cabin jets to lighter luxury aircraft? MF: There has been an increase in interest in more efficient business jet travel options. For example, the majority of business jet usage is less than 1,000 nautical miles. If you are traveling with a few passengers, it’s more practical and efficient to use a light jet rather than a large cabin jet. The HondaJet is as high performance and comfortable as a large cabin jet, but is also much more efficient and appealing to not only individual owners but also fleet and charter operators. HL: How has HondaJet Elite’s success translated in the global market? MF: Due to the innovation and technology implemented on the HondaJet, interest in the aircraft in the Middle East, which is not
generally a light jet market, is rapidly increasing. It is a more efficient option and is perfect for city pairs within GCC [Gulf Cooperation Council], has a sporty look and is attractive to the region. In Asia, the Honda brand is very strong, which has created a lot of brand recognition across the region. Commitment to innovation and technology are all contributing factors to Asia’s interest for both individual and fleet sales. The Middle East and Asia are both new areas of growth for the HondaJet. While sales in the U.S. remain strong, interest in these regions provides us with the opportunity to increase awareness of the benefits of light jets and to expand sales and service of the HondaJet. HL: What would be the key differences between HondaJet Elite buyers and large or mid-sized jet buyers? MF: Buyers in the light-jet market are often owner-operators who are interested in personal and business use; those buying light jets are usually looking for a more efficient way of regional travel, including access to smaller airports. And purchasers of light jets may be looking to lessen their impact on the environment while also enjoying the benefits of private air travel. HL: Are there any technological innovations that you would like to bring to the market? MF: We are always looking for ways to improve personal mobility through technological innovation. Our goal is to continue to create new value in the industry, and we are constantly working on new technologies such as advanced aerodynamics, new structural material, automation and advanced controls. We’re thankful that business aviation users continue to choose HondaJet. @hauteliving HAUTE LIVING 73

MCLAREN AUTOMOTIVE, THE BRITISH CREATOR OF LUXURY AND HIGH-PERFORMANCE sports
cars, has revealed its stunning Ultimate Series McLaren Speedtail. The new sports car will exceed the 243-mph peak speed of the legendary McLaren F1 and feature a central driving position plus two seats on either side. Only 106 Speedtails will be created and priced around $2 million. One of the innovative ways McLaren is merging art with performance is by offering clients the opportunity to customize their Speedtail with a range of unique finishes for their car’s badge. The well-known badge, which comes in a set of three, will feature the trademark McLaren “Speedmark” logo and will be recreated in hand-crafted 18-carat white-gold emblems and carbon-fiber inlays, utilizing the exclusive Thin Ply Technology (TPT). The emblems, which will be on the front and back of the car, are laser-etched with the McLaren hallmark, displaying where and when they were created. Vaughtons, the manufacturer that is renowned for exceptional quality and craftsmanship in emblems, medals, and badges, has hand-crafted the emblems for the new limited-edition Speedtail. In 1993, authentic gold was used for the first time in its luxury cars with the legendary McLaren F1, which famously used gold foil as a heat shield in the engine compartment. While this is the first of 18 supercars promised from the company’s master plan, the McLaren Speedtail combines the allure of elegance with an advanced sports car design. The automotive company is continuing to make insurmountable advancements in history in the luxury sports car markets.

Haute Residence Luxury Miami Real Estate Summit at THE Estates at Acqualina HAUTE RESIDENCE’S ANNUAL LUXURY MIAMI REAL ESTATE
Summit took place on November 13 at The Estates at Acqualina in Sunny Isles Beach joined by the top real estate tycoons of the Magic City. In partnership with The Estates at Acqualina and Mansions at Acqualina, on the eve of the summit, the top real estate brokers were treated to an exquisite private dinner by the Acqualina culinary team as they got a sneak peek into The Mansions at Acqualina’s sprawling 8,000-square-foot oceanfront $38 million penthouse, which includes a Lamborghini Aventador and Rolls-Royce Cullinan. Haute Living CEO Kamal Hotchandani toasted to the celebratory evening kicking off the real estate summit. “It’s an honor to be amongst so many visionaries and pioneers from across the country,” he said. “Thank you to our partners, The Estates at Acqualina for opening up your doors and making this incredible event happen in such an amazing space. We’re looking forward to a fantastic summit tomorrow.” The elite networking summit event connected high-end buyers, sellers and industry peers with Haute Residence’s prestigious panels of “National Power Brokers,” “Miami Power Brokers” and the “Titans of Miami ‘East Coast Kings.’” After each panel discussion, Trump Group’s President of Sales Michael Goldstein gave a tour of the property’s sales gallery where guests watched a video of The Estates at Acqualina and Mansion at Acqualina’s sprawling, state-of-the-art amenities, finishes and services offered. The summit kicked off with “Titans of Miami ‘East Coast Kings’” panel moderated by Fox News contributor Edward Woodson. Jules Trump, Louis Birdman, Ugo Colombo, Gil Dezer, Dan Kodsi and Carlos Rosso sounded off on the evolution of the Miami skyline, the future of the residential real estate market and why South Florida is pushing toward more vertical living. While discussing the evolution of Miami’s skyline and cosmopolitan community and city, the visionary developers credited Art Basel as the event of the season that gave Miami an international stamp of approval.

Seth Gordon and Miami Power Brokers Panel
“After the first Basel, 16 years ago, Miami became respected as a world-class city. I think that’s been an amazing thing for all of us. It has attracted all the finest people … With the fine-art collectors, come people who are our buyers, your customers, who want to come to Miami to see the best of everything,” Stephanie Trump said. The visionaries behind key residential developments like One Thousand Museum, The Estates at Acqualina, PARAMOUNT Miami, Residences by Armani/Casa and the Porsche Design Tower, gave insight into how they have revolutionized Miami’s residential vertical developments with state-of-the-art design and amenities. For Gil Dezer, every building reflects the developer. “Yes, we have designers and a team, but at the end of the day we are instructing them on the way to go and what to do. [The building] reflects your own personality and what you are inspired by,” he said. Next, the “National Power Brokers” included Dolly and Jenny Lenz, Olivia Hsu Decker, Gary Feldman, Richard Steinberg, Santiago Arana and President of ONE Sotheby’s International Realty, Daniel de la Vega. Moderated by Strategist Seth Gordon, the top brokers from key national markets discussed the latest market trends, conditions and developments in the luxury real estate market and the advice they would give up-and-coming brokers. “The key to success is knowing who you are and your vision, continuing to innovate and surrounding yourself with good people. The new trend in the industry is teams,” Daniel de la Vega said. “Make sure as you grow your team, you surround yourself with good people, people that know more than you, and this will allow you to grow successfully.”

National Power Brokers Panel
The panel focused on the current state of the market, with the fear of an upcoming dip in the market due to the oversaturation of product. While each panelist agreed that it is hard to generalize each market with a yes or no answer to that, most agreed it is how you handle and pitch the ups and downs of the market to your client. “It is not a buyer’s market or a seller’s market. It’s an opportunity market,” Olivia Hsu Decker said. All power brokers agreed the importance of an honest and transparent communication with clients, no matter the state of the market. “When you are discussing the market with your client, you need to turn all negatives into positives,” Richard Steinberg said. “Any agent who will tell you the market is robust and wonderful at all times, I find hard to believe.” 86 HAUTE LIVING hauteresidence.com
Finally, the third panel highlighted Dora Puig, Audrey Ross, Lourdes Alatriste, Jeff Miller, Jorge Uribe, Senada Adzem and Michael Goldstein as the “Miami Power Brokers.” Moderated by Strategist Seth Gordon, the panel focused on the Magic City’s luxury real estate market trends. Highly renowned as Miami’s most powerful brokers, each panelist focused in on their respective markets as they discussed the luxury-buyer client relocating to South Florida. While the preference in property, whether a penthouse, waterfront home or a single-family home in Boca Raton differs from client to client, all panelists agreed the market has seen a shift from international buyers to more domestic buyers―something they credit to the relatively inexpensive taxes in Florida.

TO LAUNCH ITS LATEST COLLECTION—THE
CYBEX for Scuderia Ferrari collection— the high-end child safety and juvenile product company CYBEX hosted a swanky cocktail party together with Tot Living by Haute Living. Taking place in the Ferrari of Miami showroom, the intimate affair brought out Miami’s finest to check out the sporty and chic new collection of strollers and baby carriers, as well as to test-drive the latest and sexiest Ferraris on offer. Social influencer Adamari Lopez, who frequently showcases her young daughter on her Instagram account @adamarilopez, had fun with the CYBEX for Scuderia Ferrari products, testing out the strollers and the baby carrier in both the black and the offwhite color versions. Entrepreneur and television superstar Angela Simmons—also a young mother with a 2-year-old baby boy—took a test drive of the products as well and posed in front of various Ferrari models on the showroom floor. Ian Llobregat of @thebillionairesclub also made an appearance to the event, as did Navin Chatani—hospitality entrepreneur—and real estate mogul Ugo Colombo and his wife, Sara.
As guests mingled and swayed to the sexy beats of influencer and DJ Willy Monfret (@ monfretwilly on Instagram), they enjoyed hors d’oeuvres, such as arancini, fig-and-brie flatbreads, smoked salmon and tuna canapés, as well as custom cocktails from the on-site bar made with Avion Reposado and Absolut Elyx, and complimentary CYBEX for Scuderia Ferrari diaper bags. Later into the evening, Haute Living CEO Kamal Hotchandani addressed the crowd, thanking the CYBEX and Ferrari teams and beginning a Q&A session with CYBEX’s VP of International Sales, Ruben Baumann, and with Ferrari. Baumann touched on the core pillars of CYBEX—design, safety and functionality—as well as the importance of the Ferrari partnership, symbolizing the brand’s emphasis that life doesn’t stop after you have a child, and its “passion for excellence.” As the night continued, guests basked in the ambiance of the perfect evening, sipping tasty cocktails and mingling with the who’s who of Miami, as they geared up for CYBEX and Tot Living by Haute Living’s next event on the following day, celebrating the second birthday of Asahd Khaled—Executive Producer and son of the iconic DJ Khaled— taking place at Miami’s Marlins Park.

with high-end child safety and juvenile product company CYBEX to celebrate mini music mogul Asahd Khaled’s second Birthday. The famed music producer and social media sensation DJ Khaled and Nicole Tuck threw their son, Asahd, an extravagant, circusthemed birthday bash at the gorgeous Marlins Park and decked the newly renovated baseball stadium out in carnival games and rides and provided entertainment with live performances, a fashion show, a handful of vendors and more to make the day one of the most memorable yet. The highlight of the event occurred when a beautiful red Ferrari 488 GTB pulled into the stadium to deliver Asahd one of his most lustworthy birthday gifts—a red, mini LaFerrari children’s car provided by CYBEX, emblazoned with the company’s signature logo. Along with the car, CYBEX also gifted Asahd the first custom CYBEX for Scuderia Ferrari―Asahd Khaled stroller, which had his name embroidered on the basket of the lavish stroller. CYBEX celebrated the launch of the special luxury children’s line the night before at the brand-new Ferrari of Miami dealership where they presented guests with the gorgeous CYBEX for Scuderia Ferrari strollers, car seats and carriers. Along with the tangible presents, CYBEX and Tot Living by Haute Living presented Asahd with a $10,000 check made out to We the Best Foundation for Asahd’s initiative, which supports the 501-C3 foundation in enriching the lives of children. The 92 HAUTE LIVING totliving.com
initiative, which launched that day, specifically supports programs that aid in the growth and advancement of a child’s life, with a special emphasis placed on programs that meet community needs and reinforce family values that promote youth entrepreneurship. The mini mogul has had quite a year—he’s executive-produced hit singles like “Wild Thoughts,” which went four-times platinum, and “To the Max,” which earned a gold certification with his famous father, and attended red carpets of high-profile events throughout the country in the most dapper of children’s attire. But most importantly, he’s focusing on giving back to children just like himself with his family and the We the Best Foundation to inspire other children to achieve their own greatness. To conclude, Derek Jeter took the stage to present $100,000 to the Foundation on behalf of the Miami Marlins along with a special customized Marlins jersey for Asahd. With a celebratory “Happy Birthday” moment, Asahd and his family blew out the candles of his towering, circus-themed cake by The Ellinnet Cake Collection and enjoyed the rest of the afternoon’s festivities with friends and family. The event was made possible by Marlins Stadium, Kathy Romero Events, Lyft, Tot Living by Haute Living, CYBEX, Beats, Foot Locker Kids, Rookie USA, Finga Licking, Be Social Events, The Ellinnet Cake Collection, Oda Creative and more.

Not only has she walked countless runway shows including Miami Fashion Week, Miami Swim Week and New York Fashion Week, she’s also sat front row rubbing elbows with some of the hottest celebrities at the moment, oozing her own personal style and stealing the show. NEW & NOTEWORTHY David Grutman and Pharrell Williams collaborate to open brand-new Miami hot spot Swan and Bar Bevy in the Miami Design District.
After months of buildup and anticipation, hospitality power player David Grutman and Pharrell Williams have debuted their latest collaboration, Swan and Bar Bevy, with Top Chef Europe alum and champion, Executive Chef Jean Imbert. The two-part restaurant and lounge concept debuted in the heart of the posh Miami Design District, offering the perfect combination of Grutman’s golden touch—bringing his visionary direction in nightlife and hospitality—as well as Pharrell Williams’ signature style and Imbert’s expert culinary skill. Additionally, the power squad added storied interior designer Ken Fulk to the mix to ensure that the finished product was nothing less than extraordinary. And the final product is truly breathtaking. Paying tribute to its name, Swan boasts a picturesque, elegant décor with a shell pink theme prevalent throughout the space, as well as swan paintings and sculptures highlighting the interior. The focal point of the main dining room is the impressive horseshoe-shaped bar covered in scalloped tile, topped with pewter and boasting a jaw-dropping glowing pink onyx. Delicate white wooden bar stools with plush pink cushions decorate the area, and detailed white and pink cabinetry perfectly contrast against the mirrored bar backsplash. The fashionable dining rooms feature touches of shell pink, creamy opal and jade green, drawing inspiration from the surrounding Design District, as well as Miami and Palm Beach. Delicate florals pair beautifully on the center of each table, and adorning the walls over the custom banquette seating are works by fashion illustrator David Downton, known for his work with Chanel, Dior, Tiffany and portraits of celebs including Cate Blanchett, Catherine Deneuve, Iman and Linda Evangelista. Each room itself is a work of art and strategically designed for the camera—even its bathroom area, which takes on a green, black and white botanical theme with intricate flooring, pristine white marble and beautiful tasseled chandeliers that make for the perfect photo backdrop. The cuisine is equally as awe-inspiring as the tasteful décor, with Imbert putting special emphasis on locally and sustainably sourced ingredients and crafting inventive, globally influenced plates. Signature dishes include the Snapper Sashimi with mango, serrano chili and pickled kumquats; Corn Corn Corn—a triple threat with creamy polenta, popcorn and brown butter; the delicious Ratatouille with bell pepper, zucchini, eggplant and tomato; and a melt-inyour-mouth Dover Sole with brown butter, capers and lemon. As to be expected, the drinks are perfectly crafted to complement the rich, global cuisine with an innovative cocktail menu. Highlights include the refreshing and spicy Kalahari— tequila, watermelon chili, ginger and lime; and the sweet and warm, French-inspired Mon 118 HAUTE LIVING hauteliving.com

Chéri—cherry-infused Buffalo Trace Bourbon, vanilla, angostura and chocolate bitters. “Since first meeting David [Grutman], I could tell he was the man to know in hospitality,” Chef Imbert says. “Together with Pharrell, we are creating a culinary adventure.” And the extravagant journey does not stop there. After dinner, guests will be transported to a sexy, Moroccan-style upstairs cocktail lounge at Bar Bevy. Also designed by Fulk, Bar Bevy takes on a completely different theme with a much darker yet equally detailed interior design. The space features zebra stripes, colorful street art by renowned artists, brass drum finishes and dark floors. At the focal point of the room is a canopied seating area with rich, flowing tapestry fit for bottle service. Next door is the highly Instagrammable “pink room,” which is painted in hot pink and showcases a meticulously curated selection of enviable artwork with hip sofa seating and one-of-a-kind custom tables. Finally, the outdoor area takes on a magical garden theme designed by landscape architect Raymond Jungles of Soho Beach House. At the entry of the restaurant, guests are greeted by an ethereal fountain by Kobi Karp, setting the scene for a truly memorable experience that cannot be found elsewhere in Miami. “Swan is hands-down the most beautiful restaurant in Miami,” says Grutman. “From the second you step foot in the restaurant, you are surrounded by feminine tones, amazing décor details and sick artwork. I love the vibe, and I know Miami will, too.” If there’s one thing that can be safely assured, it’s that David Grutman knows how to create the ultimate hospitality experience in Miami. Each of his acclaimed destinations takes on its own distinct identity and draw in a beautiful crowd each night of the week. Swan/Bar Bevy is the latest of many refined masterpieces we can expect from Groot Hospitality, with more to come next. The 13,500-square-foot restaurant and lounge are located in the heart of Miami’s Design District at 90 NE 39th Street. Swan is now open for dinner nightly, with Bar Bevy open Thursday through Saturday. THE LUXURY DEVELOPMENT ONE THOUSAND MUSEUM RESIDENCES,
located in the heart of Downtown Miami, is one of Miami’s most anticipated project openings. It is significant because it’s the esteemed, late architect Zaha Hadid’s first and final residential tower in the Western Hemipshere, and brings unparalleled luxury, stunning architecture, world-class amenities and unbeatable service to its residents in an atmosphere that is truly iconic. Aside from the fact that the project is remarkable from a developmental and architectural standpoint, it’s also poised to be one of the most prestigious places to live in Miami, offering only 83 total residences that allow its homeowners to have a unique, service-oriented experience. One factor of this is One Thousand Museum Residences’ partnership with Haute Living to launch an exclusive mobile application, offered exclusively to its residents. Here, we chat with developer Louis Birdman about the exciting app launch and what it entails for its users.

The “Franchise King” celebrates his firm’s 25th Anniversary with the grand opening of a sprawling new office. BY ALEJANDRA TENORIO

124 HAUTE LIVING hauteliving.com
P.A., founded by Zarco over 25 years ago, has become a household name and guarantees any client who partners with the firm the best results―something Zarco accredits to his zealous representation of clients including his ability to handle trial cases ferociously. “I have earned the right to be confident based on the extraordinary amount of work that I have done in my career at many different levels,” Zarco says. And it’s true. Zarco’s extensive resumé is almost unparalleled. His Knack and understanding of finance, accounting and financial analysis economics all serve as an added bonus for clients due to his exprience working as a former financil analyst for General Motors. He had pursued an MBA at Pace University and also holds a law degree from Harvard University. “My clients have free benefit of my accounting and finance background. My education and skill on the subject matter enhances my ability to give legal advice,” Zarco notes. “Few lawyers understand that when you give legal advice, there is a corresponding business consequence. Likewise, I tell my clients whenever [they] make a business decision, they need to understand there is a corresponding legal consequence to it.” Any other firm will rarely take on franchise cases on contingency, and yet Zarco does so. It is in the handling of these cases, through Zarco’s honest and transparent legal advice, that allow him to offer the “keys to the courthouse” to clients. This is another demonstration of the quality of service Zarco Einhorn Salkowski & Brito, P.A. offers. A question Zarco gets often is “what is next?” The answer, according to Zarco, is both simple and complex in nature. “Everything.” Zarco says. With no plans of stopping any time soon, Zarco said he hopes to remain as happy and passionate about the law as he is now while continuing to serve clients diligently and successfully. As a man of vision, he is always striving for perfection and setting goals that push him to be the best version of himself. He credits his passion and love for his profession as the driving forces behind his success. Most recently, the firm expanded to a sprawling, 26,000-square-foot office inside One Biscayne Tower. The grand opening of the office took place early in November, inviting highly renowned lawyers, businessmen and politicians as Zarco Einhorn Salkowski & Brito, P.A celebrated its 25th anniversary. The lavish opening was unlike any other law firm event. A variety of deliciously crafted food items were available to fit almost any craving. From churrasco and plantain mash to Southern-style fried chicken, sushi and a charcuterie spread, guests were able to indulge in mouthwatering cuisine and desserts catered by Chef David Cuisine and Event Design.

The event featured esteemed singer Dawn Marie Basham and pianist Giovanni Fazzio, who have previously performed at events for President Donald J. Trump and family, and violinist Frank Lima. Notable attendees like Don Shula and Mary Anne Shula, Senator René Garcia, Nat Moore, Judge Ed Newman, Judge Michael Hanzman, Judge Ronald Dresnick and Judge Alan Fine were among the 350 guests that attended. Ahead of the opening, Zarco takes us on a tour of the sprawling office. The walls are covered with breathtaking works of art, from paintings to sculptures from all over the world―and every lawyer at the firm is as enamored with each piece as Zarco is himself. “Did you see the new eagle that just came in?” Zarco joyfully asked those around him as he walked through the halls. There is nothing typical about the new offices of Zarco Einhorn Salkowski & Brito, P.A. To say it has become the talk of the building would be an understatement. As we made our way to the 34th floor of One Biscayne Tower to meet Zarco for our interview, a man in the elevator could not help but comment on the firm’s strikingly beautiful office. Zarco is the mastermind and visionary behind the office’s stunning décor and finishes, with an excellent team of designers who helped execute his vision to perfection. The modern office is designed to reignite the already-existing excitement into the law firm, but at a whole new level. It features a 1,000-gallon aquarium, locker rooms with showers, high-end lounges, a personal trainer and nutritionist provided at the expense of Zarco and unobstructed views of the bay. Zarco chose to go the exact opposite of recent office trends and increased the sizes of all offices for the firm’s partners and associates. “These employees spend the greater bulk of their life here. I wanted to promote happiness and a happy environment. I feel we have achieved just that. [Clients and colleagues] look forward to being here; frequently I have to actually take it upon myself to ask employees to 00 HAUTE LIVING

leave because they don’t leave, and many say it’s because the office looks nicer than their home,” Zarco says. Contrary to the beliefs of opposing lawyers, Zarco is anything but arrogant―although he is quick to point out the difference between being arrogant and being tough. “I am tough. I know how to represent my client zealously, which is my legal obligation. I am firm in my position. I am an aggressive trial lawyer, but I reason intelligently, and I’m not a pushover. I am extraordinarily confident, and people have mistaken that for arrogance,” Zarco notes. Although they represent over 500 different franchised brands in over 20 countries and 40 states, Zarco Einhorn Salkowski & Brito, P.A. offer services that extend far beyond franchise law. The firm serves as a “one-stop shop” for clients who need advice or legal representation in different legal realms. The emphasis is always the same: providing high-quality, full-service access to all clients. As the year comes to an end, Zarco reflects on the landmark decision he won in 1992 that made him who he is today. “I left my prior law firm as a result of not agreeing with their philosophy and management style.” Zarco says. “I believe in long-term relationships with my clients, and price gouging is not the way to do business. As a result, my clients know from the minute they come in how much [our service] is going to cost them.” After an incredible evening celebration that lasted until midnight, Zarco and his team were back at work the next morning doing what they do best- Practice Law! 126 HAUTE LIVING hauteliving.com

The art of medicine BY ALEJANDRA TENORIO
AS ONE OF MIAMI’S MOST RENOWNED PLASTIC SURGEONS, DR. JHONNY SALOMON MASTERS THE ART
of plastic surgery by offering his patients the latest and most advanced medical and surgical techniques. Committed to providing the highest standards, Dr. Salomon strives to deliver perfection to every patient. Haute Living caught up with the talented surgeon to discuss new medical techniques within his practice, why plastic surgery is the art of medicine and what he hopes his legacy will be.
HL: What sets you and your practice apart from others in the same field? JS: I think what sets us apart is the overall vision I have for the practice. I’m a perfectionist and believe that it is important to deliver results that are of a high standard, while also remaining naturally beautiful. My goal is that my patients feel and look rejuvenated after a procedure, while ensuring that it’s not drastically noticeable that work has been done. Our state-of-the-art medical practice delivers the most advanced technologies, which we incorporate at a very early stage of treatment. This, combined with our excellent team, who provide nothing short of five-star service, creates a comfortable environment and positively memorable experience for our patients. HL: So would you agree that plastic surgery is the art of medicine, and if so why? JS: In my opinion, art is the fine-tuning of an equilibrium and the mastery surrounding this. Art can exist in at least three different realms: visual, time and judgment. The visual form of art is related to space, which includes fine-art forms such as painting, sculptures as well as plastic surgery. Art in time is the mastery of the equilibrium over time as exists, for example in music. The mastery of judgment is a form of art that is seen in many professions such as medical doctors and business strategists, as both are making a decision based on the judgment of a scenario involving a fine equilibrium of judgment. Plastic surgery is a great balance of art in space, judgment and possibly time. HL: What’s the greatest lesson you’ve learned through your years in practice? JS: I have learned so many valuable lessons throughout my career. My practice has taught me the importance of refining my aesthetic judgement and the importance of patience, discipline and compassion. I have learned some of the most valuable lessons in life from my practice and patients. HL: What would your advice be for patients who want to get work done, if they haven’t done work before? JS: I think that if someone is considering cosmetic surgery, they should definitely spend time researching the procedure to ensure their expectations are in line with what results can be achieved. It is also important that patients find a surgeon who they connect with on all levels. For instance, when a patient comes into our practice,

HL: Are there any new Innovations or techniques you are using? JS: We pride ourselves in remaining at the forefront in our field by consistently introducing new technologies, and we are steadily evolving. I truly feel that it is important to provide our patients with the most advanced innovations in both invasive and non-invasive procedures, and we are currently investigating Silhouette InstaLift, which utilizes dissolvable sutures to tighten the face and neck with minimal downtime. In the past year, we have introduced ThermiVa for rejuvenation of the external and internal regions of the vagina as well as some new and advanced fillers.

my team and myself are focused on ensuring the patient feels as safe as possible, and my goal is to help them understand what results are possible so they have realistic expectations of the overall outcome. HL: Do you have a favorite procedure you like performing? JS: Every surgery that I perform is special, as no two procedures or patients are alike. In my opinion, each treatment is very unique and requires that I fine-tune my attention to detail in order to customize a surgical plan best suited for that specific patient. This being said, I do enjoy facial plastic surgery procedures, specifically facial rejuvenation, rhinoplasty and challenging reconstructive procedures of the facial structures the most. HL: What can patients expect when meeting with you and going through your practice for work? JS: Our practice is one that welcomes patients to put their guard down and hone in on what is truly bothering them. It’s important that patients feel comfortable enough to open up to me and my team so we are able to get to the core of their concerns and not just the superficial part of it. Patients can expect a detailed consultation so that we can discuss all options and ensure their overall expectations are as close to reality as possible. HL: Are there any misconceptions of your field that people may have? JS: It’s hard to say, as I imagine everyone views plastic surgery differently. It has become so much a part of mainstream media and of immediate culture that many people may view it more lightly than what it is. When we meet with patients, we focus heavily on guiding them through the many stages of the surgical journey to ensure they are comfortable with the process and are realistic in their expectations. I focus on connecting with my patients on an emotional level, as many patients seek plastic surgery to achieve some form of happiness, which is very much an internal process. While plastic surgery can make someone look better and turn back the hands of time, it is also important that individuals realize that plastic surgery is not the answer for overall happiness. HL: What do you hope your legacy will be? JS: With regard to my career in plastic surgery, I feel as if my legacy will be that of a surgeon who has always put his patients first and who consistently introduced innovative and creative procedures intended to offer the most refined results always. I’ve devoted a lot of my time teaching students and residents the artistry and judgment in plastic surgery. In relation to the legacy of my life, my desire would be to have positively impacted the lives of everyone I’ve come in contact with throughout, especially those closest to me―to have positively influenced their overall approach to a better humanity.
