Tis The {Awards} Season
The stars were out in full awards season effect on Sunday night to attend the 24th Annual Critics’ Choice Awards. Taye Diggs hosted the event, which aired live on the CW from Santa Monica’s Barker Hangar.
In the film categories, Roma took home four awards—the most of the night—including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Cinematography, for Alfonso Cuarón, and Best Foreign Language Film. Black Panther and Vice followed close behind, both winning in three categories.
The top film acting awards resulted in a tie for Best Actress between Glenn Close for The Wife and Lady Gaga for A Star is Born, while Best Actor was bestowed upon Christian Bale for his transformative performance as Dick Cheney in Vice. Best Supporting Actor went to Mahershala Ali for Green Book and Regina King took home the Best Supporting Actress award for her work in If Beale Street Could Talk.
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel took home three awards, including Best Comedy Series for the second consecutive year. Its leading lady, Rachel Brosnahan, was also a repeat winner for Best Actress in a Comedy Series, and Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series went to Alex Borstein. The Americans earned three trophies as well, including Best Drama Series, Best Actor in a Drama Series for Matthew Rhys and Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for Noah Emmerich. Sandra Oh received Best Actress in a Drama Series for Killing Eve, with Best Actor in a Comedy Series going to Bill Hader for Barry. Best Supporting Actress nominee Claire Foy received the Critics’ Choice #SeeHer award, which was presented by former #SeeHer Award recipient Viola Davis. Chuck Lorre, creator of such acclaimed TV comedies as The Big Bang Theory, Mom, Young Sheldon and The Kominsky Method (all of which received Critics’ Choice Award nominations this year), was honored with the Critics’ Choice Creative Achievement Award. Theory, including Mayim Bialik, Kaley Cuoco, Johnny Galecki, Simon Helberg, Kunal Nayyar, Jim Parsons and Melissa Rauch, was on hand to recognize Lorre, just in time to celebrate the show’s final season.
Other major winners on the film side included Elsie Fisher for Best Young Actor/ Actress in Eighth Grade, Mission: Impossible – Fallout for Best Action Movie, Crazy Rich Asians for Best Comedy, A Quiet Place for Best Sci-Fi/ Horror Film and “Shallow” from A Star Is Born for Best Song.
Those who didn’t win looked every inch the winner, at least. The most fabulously clad leading ladies included Emily Blunt in a snow-white Prada column gown; Lady Gaga in an understated pale pink Calvin Klein by Appointment; Nicole Kidman in structured black-and-white Armani Privé; Laura Dern in a Saint Laurent that fit like a second skin; and Mandy Moore in Michael Kors.
{SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL }
TAO PARK CITY
TAO Group returned for its 11th year to the Sundance Film Festival with TAO Park City presented by Stella Artois at The Yard. The first of its three-night pop-up kicked off on Friday, January 25. This year, Casamigos served up cocktails and bottle service, warming guests from the inside out against Park City’s bitter winter weather. DJ Ruckus kept the party going well into the night as notable guests made their way into the exclusive nightclub experience.
Gerard Butler arrived with fellow producer Alan Siegel, both at Sundance to present their film Them That Follow. Black Panther star Michael B. Jordan posted up alongside If Beale Street Could Talk actress KiKi Layne and Emmy award-winner Lena Waithe at a VIP table, where they toasted over rounds of Casamigos. Shailene Woodley arrived arm in arm with friend and Shameless star Isidora Goreshter and shared a bucket of Stella Artois as they danced the night away.
Deep into the party, rapper G-Eazy showed up with a group of friends and surprised the crowd by jumping behind the DJ booth and getting on the mic. Flanked by ski-bunny go-go dancers, he performed his newest track, “My Year,” and hits including “No Limit” while grabbing fans’ phones and taking videos and selfies during his impromptu performance.
Other celebrity guests at TAO Park City on Friday night included: David Arquette, Marshmello, Black Panther and Training Day star Denzel Whitaker, YouTube’s Liza on Demand star Liza Koshy, Angie Martinez, former NBA player Baron Davis, Utah Jazz’s Boris Diaw and Dallas Cowboys’ Tyron Smith.
THE IMDB STUDIO
Hilary Swank, Zac Efron, Emma Roberts, Lily Collins, Jenny Slate, Danielle Macdonald, Alex Sharp, Patty Jenkins, Zach Galifianakis and more sat down for exclusive interviews with host Kevin Smith at the IMDB Studio. Efron debuted his platinum-blond haircut while discussing his portrayal of Ted Bundy for the highly anticipated Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile. Macdonald recalled her hit roles in Netflix original films Bird Box and Dumplin while gushing about meeting Dolly Parton. Eiza González confirmed that Edgar Wright is doing a
Baby Driver 2 and has already re-written the script. Meanwhile, Armie Hammer revealed that there is video somewhere of him in an epic Batman costume and begged for someone to share with him!

IndieWire headed to Main Street for its inaugural The IndieWire Studio at Sundance Presented by Dropbox. The festival’s top filmmakers and talent were interviewed about their upcoming films, including Anna Chlumsky (Hala), Awkwafina (The Farewell), Billy Crudup (After the Wedding), Cameron Crowe (David Crosby: Remember My Name), Demi Moore (Corporate Animals), Jon Hamm (The Report), Naomi Watts (Luce, The Wolf Hour) and more.

Lyft has been ferrying the stars around Park City, and to introduce itself as the chosen mode of transportation, the company invited guests such as David Arquette, Danielle Brooks, Tony Hale, Phoebe Robinson, Alia Shawkat, Reggie Watts, Michael Urie, Ken Barnett, Darren Darnborough and Michael Hsu Rosen to a Sundance Welcome party, where they enjoyed cocktails and a DJ set by Nancy Whang of LCD Soundsystem.
KAOS DAY & NIGHTCLUB BRINGS LAS VEGAS TO PARK CITY
Diplo, Marshmello and G-Eazy performed at KAOS Day & Nightclub, bringing a Las Vegas vibe to Park City for sold-out, late-night performances.
THE LAST CALL LOUNGE AT THE MUSIC IN FILM SUMMIT
The Music in Film Summit presented by Last Call at Park City Live during the Film Festival weekend was a haven for guests to enjoy Last Call Elixir beverages, complimentary crafted cocktails and Lemon Perfect cold-pressed lemon water. Topshop Topman Personal Styling experts were also on hand to get guests snow season-ready.
Actors Peter Sarsgaard and Tony Revolori joined the cast and executives of their film The Sound of Silence for a panel discussion led by Ben Lyons; the film tells the story of a successful “house tuner” in New York City who calibrates the sounds in people’s homes in order to adjust their moods.
The lounge also hosted a discussion of Wu-Tang Clan: Of Mics and Men with director Sacha Jenkins and executive producer Peter Scalettar. The documentary tells the story of the Wu-Tang Clan, with never-before-seen footage and interviews recounting the obstacles traversed to stay united as one Wu family.
Terrence J, Jessie Williams, Angie Martinez and Gina Torres were all spotted in the COMPLEX Studio before heading to the Topshop Topman Personal Shopping Styling Studio. Shameless stars Jeremy Allen White, Steve Howey and Shanola Hampton popped into the Music in Film Summit presented by Last Call to support Bend It Like Beckham director Gurinder Chadha for her film Blinded by The Light, the true story of Bruce Springsteen’s inspirational influence on a young Muslim boy growing up in Britain. The Shameless crew also enjoyed The Culture of Music Today panel with DJ Ryan Best, DJ Spider, Reggie Watts, DJ Michelle Pesce and DJ Ana Calderone.
