Miami Beach is where cultural appeal and natural beauty collide. Its impressive architecture, bustling nightlife, oceanfront setting, trendy restaurants, vibrant community, and incredible art galleries set it apart. It only makes sense that Miami Beach is the primary location for one of the largest annual art events in the U.S.; Art Basel Miami takes place on this scenic island city just across the water from Miami.

Art Basel is a global art fair with four shows worldwide every year. They take place in Basel, Hong Kong, Paris, and Miami Beach. It is a long-running contemporary art festival that draws thousands of visitors annually. The first Art Basel was held in Switzerland in 1972 before expanding to Miami Beach in 2002. Since then, it has grown to become one of South Florida’s biggest, most exciting events and one of North America’s best annual art experiences.

Art Basel Miami Beach will run from December 1st–3rd at the Miami Beach Convention Center. It will be a huge showcase of emerging artists in the contemporary and modern art world as well as some established superstars. There will be numerous local and international galleries showcasing works in various categories and themes, along with several events and panel discussions. The spectacle won’t be limited to the Miami Beach Convention Center; local galleries and institutions will host satellite events, and the city of Miami Beach’s art scene will be spotlighted. There are many different ways to experience Art Basel Miami Beach. The convention center is divided into different sectors with varying themes, accommodating a wide range of artistic preferences. The main sector of the fair is Galleries, which showcases leading international modern and contemporary art galleries. The works here are produced by artists ranging from famed 20th-century legends to the next generation of superstars.

While Galleries is the main sector, there are many others worth exploring. Meridians is an area that showcases large-scale cuttingedge works like sculpture and mural art. Positions is a sector for relatively newer galleries that highlight solo exhibitions from up-andcoming artists. It is an ideal sector to spot some of the lesser-known talents that could define the future of art. Nova is a sector that spotlights new works created within the past three years by up to three artists.

There are also panel conversations, food and drink areas, and reception events that are a great way to wine, dine, and mingle with fellow art lovers. If this sounds like a lot to explore on your own, Art Basel Miami Beach has guided tours available, where experienced art guides will provide background on key pieces and artists and make it easier to explore the massive event. Single-day tickets are available for $70, and Miami Beach residents can get a single-day ticket for just $35. There are also First Access tickets for $90, which allow you to enter the event early. Art Basel Miami Beach is one of the United States’ biggest and most impactful annual art events. Since it first launched in 2002, this has become an international celebration of the area’s art scene and the perfect showcase for some of the biggest names in the industry. It is the ideal place to browse works from incredible galleries spanning the globe. With an array of displays and events, it has a diverse offering that will appeal to art lovers of every kind.

Thomas Erben's booth at Art Basel Miami Beach (Galleries, C31) presents a survey of the various positions that have defined the gallery’s vision over the past 25 years. On view will be Adrian Piper’s Ur Mütter #9, along with an example from her 1971 series Food for the Spirit, and Senga Nengudi’s performance photographs Masked Taping from 1978/79. A Mike Cloud quilt painting (reproduced in Bob Nickas’ Painting Abstraction) will act as a centerpiece, connecting the gallery’s historical support of the African-American avant-garde to a painting program—represented by Dona Nelson and Harriet Korman— that conceptually probes the medium through experiments in material, process, and form.

Founded in 1992 in Zurich, Galerie Peter Kilchmann has been one of the driving galleries that advanced the contemporary art scene in Switzerland. In the beginning, Peter Kilchmann exhibited mainly artists of his generation and has since strived to pave the way for aspiring artists with diverse backgrounds and from different parts of the world. Coinciding with its 30th anniversary, the gallery was expanded in October to include a location in Paris. A conceptual approach to the creative process and to socio-political circumstances is what distinguishes the gallery's program with artists covering all fields of creative expression including painting, video, film, photography, installation and sculpture. The gallery’s presentation at Art Basel Miami Beach 2022 includes works by Francis Alÿs, Monica Bonvicini, Andriu Deplazes, Beatriz González, Leiko Ikemura, Raffi Kalenderian, Zilla Leutenegger and Paul Mpagi Sepuya.

After having participated two years in a row — in 2019 and 2021 — in Art Basel Miami Beach, we dedicate our Survey booth to a historical solo show presenting unique and rare wood, marble and bronze sculptures, alongside works on paper by the Cuban artist Agustin Cárdenas. This body of work from the Agustin Cárdenas’ estate would take us back to the origins of his work, with his 1950’s and 1960’s wood sculptures. The wood in which he sculpted his elongated silhouettes and totems is a quintessentially ‘raw’ material. His choice of wood as a medium and the way he works with it allude to his ancestral origins, referencing primitive sculpture and African statue making.

Cardenas uses different types of wood, sometimes painting it or burning it. This presentation would then continue with his more recent marble and bronze works from the 1970's and the 1980’s.

For its fourth participation in Art Basel Miami Beach, Galerie Poggi has conceived a special project around a new body of works by the Ukrainian artist Nikita Kadan (born in 1982 in Kiev).

One of the most important figures of the Ukrainian and East-European arts scene, Nikita Kadan has not only become one of the main spokesperson for the war, but also one of the leading artists of his generation. One of the exhibiting artists of both the 56th and 59th International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia, Nikita Kadan has exhibited widely (Castello di Rivoli, European Parliament, MHKA, MUMOK, etc.) and is the recipient of numerous awards. Paulo Kuczynski

The gallery Paulo Kuczynski, established in São Paulo, Brazil, in 1974, works fundamentally with Brazilian modern and early contemporary art. Queer Thoughts

For Art Basel Miami 2022 Positions, Queer Thoughts will present Pole on Break, an installation of new work by Chelsea Culprit, featuring a singular large-scale sculpture, and a suite of new paintings. The central element of the installation is a floor to ceiling sculpture of mirror-polished stainless steel, entitled Relaxed Pole. The minimalist sculpture references a pole-dancing pole used in strip clubs, but in this work the rigid verticality of the pole has relaxed into the curvilinear, reticulated form of a body at rest, making an expressive line drawing in space. Moving beyond the utilitarian object of its source, Relaxed Pole anthropomorphizes the apparatus and makes a sensual gesture of the minimalist monolith.

A series of new paintings will encompass the walls of the booth using the artist’s rigorous abstraction of bodily forms to elaborate the theatricality of the body’s capacity for work, play and expression. Through processes of abstraction and material experimentation, Culprit's canvases explore the visual-cognitive mechanisms of the mind’s eye. Culprit displaces the centrality of the image in favor of complex visual surfaces for play and discovery, engaging the eye in constellations of expressive meaning, myth-making and language. Culprit’s work continues its explorations of gender, labor, and desire, but does so while playing with degrees of legibility, genre, and cognition, sidestepping exactitudes to create positions of intuitive listening and seeking.

The Chemistry Gallery

The Chemistry Gallery is a young dynamic creative institution designed for serious commercial and professional presentation of works by contemporary young artists both from the Czech Republic and abroad. Since the beginning of the gallery's operation, we have been looking for young talents, whom we help to successfully enter the art market. Since 2016, we have been participating in foreign art fairs with the aim of bringing the work of the exhibited artists closer to a wider international audience. In this project Kremer takes the viewer on a cosmic and philosophical journey, a reflection on Heidegger's fundamental question: "why is there something instead of nothing?"

“…in the chain that does not begin nor end. Randomly, ever since…” (Meir Ariel) I started the work from a collection of satellite images taken by NASA over several years.

By weaving them together, I let the viewer perceive simultaneously opposite vantage points: looking towards the earth and then onto the moon.

Then to this, I intertwined microscopic photographs of biological cells.

The merging of microscopic and telescopic images question both our origin and our destination.

In this photographic metaphor mixing science and philosophy, the final pieces become enigmatic visual haikus. They are puzzles about scale, equating space and time, past and future.

Born in Rome, Italy, multifaceted artist Giancarlo Impiglia’s Sins of Eve epitomizes his vision; on the surface, his vibrant paintings and sculptures with their dynamic compositions are simply aesthetically pleasing. From cinema to superheroes through the illusion of love, visual artist ROD mixes media to create impacting and fragmented works that invite the observer to question our sick society and the deteriorating world in which we live.

Rodolphe AKA Rod is a 42-year-old Frenchman from Quimper. After studying visual arts and starting a career as a film set designer, Rod has continued to increase his experimentation by exploiting the superheroes theme or by fragmenting images.

Prior to founding her gallery, Yelena Lezhen was represented by the Manifest Destiny Art Gallery from Barcelona and by several galleries in New York City. She decided to open her own gallery in 2018. Since that time, Yelena Lezhen Art gallery constantly exhibits the fine art at major New York art shows, Miami Art Basel with the Scope, and at art shows in Barcelona. Our artistic philosophy concentrates on the fact that humanity and nature are not separate - we must see them as one focusing on the body, mind, and soul – the human identity and its relationship to the Earth.
