Project: Café
Project research
A complex staircase made in a modern, industrial style. The staircase is either made from wood or covered in wooden-like material. Limited colors range identifies the style it's been designed in. The use of curves and lack of corners creates a unique, simplistic and interesting piece of architecture.
Research
Judging by the paint, texture, open electricity system and the simplicity of the design tells us that it is an industrialstyled space. The place is hardly decorated. A mixture of curves and sharp angles creates a division in the room
The materials used in creation of this model are wood stone and glass. Rough, sharp edges , straight lines and textured surface gives an industrial touch to the pavilion.
A corner café designed in a vintage, old style. It is most likely located in the residential area. The café itself blends in with the building and interacts with the history, as well as it stands out with the juxtaposition of colors.
During the process of making this sketch I decided to add a few rough lines to mark the building's location and to show the historical connection between the café and the building. The café is made in an industrial, minimalistic style. The materials used for its production are mostly bricks and glass. Limited color range, neutral pastel colors: grey, light brown and black. There is not a lot of decorations outside or inside the café which adds simplicity to the design.

ELEVATION
Both kiosks are made from wood and metal. This gives an industrial feel to the construction. However the kiosk on the top left corner is only made out of curves and has no sharp angles
Kiosks
This kiosk is constructed from a container. A kiosk like that has a lot of advantages that will benefit not just people, but the environment as It is ecofriendly and energy efficient. The building behind it, is structurally made in the same stilistic: the colours, shapes and angles are interracting with each other, which helps it blend in with the history and the surroundings.
Pavilions This pavilion-library is made from wood and a concrete base. Wood walls were left uncovered to not just present industrialism but for an effective use of spaces as it is also been used as a shelf for books. The middle base is there to support the structure, which can also be used as as a seating because of its circumference.
All these pavilions have one thing in commoncurves. The materials used in building are glass metal and panels. Some of these pavilions have sharp angles.
This model was made from the shape presented on the top left corner. To make it I created a point in the centre of the shape and started marking the lines where the bent is going to be. The model turned out practical as it could be used as a cafĂŠ and a pavilion.
Sharp, defined corners and its abstract form was perfect for an industrially styled cafĂŠ. If divided into panels and made from the right material like metal, it can be also considered as a non-permanent structure.
For this model I used the shape I spotted in one of my photos taken at science museum (presentented in the bottom right corner).
To make this model I took the corners number 2 and 3 and connected them (using the stapler) to the corner number 1.

I thought this model looked abstract and interesting and would make a good pavilion, but it wasn’t practical for to use it for my future cafÊ design
1
This shape was taken from an old mechanism. To make this model I took two parallel to each other corners and bent it in half, without actually folding the paper, in order to create curves in this model, which would be good for a pavilion. Holes in the roof and sharp angles give an industrial feel to the model.
Before starting to make a model on skethcup I made a few sketches of ho I wanted my cafĂŠ to look on the outside, how I wanted everything positioned on the inside and how I wanted to apply one of my previous experiments, paper model, to my project. To save time I roughly placed the objects, I needed to include in the cafĂŠ, to check if everything from the "requirements" checklist would fit in the given to me area restrictions. As for the exterior design I made a rough sketch to see where I can place my paper model design a to make a rough idea of what my outcome will look like once I finish it on sketchup.

For my final outcome I decided to use metal containers as a refference. They are portable easy to move and as a structure considered as a non-permanent because it can be taken apart and moved to a different place. The main building contains toilet, dining room with 20 seatings and 7 tables, 2 of which are bar stands and a staircase to the second floor with an open view and 4 extra tables and 12 seatings. The room at the back is a kitchen/ food storage. Outside I placed 8 seating spaces with 2 tables.
Because of the ristrictions in size of the model I could only install singular toilets, one for male, one for female and one for disabled. As u can see in the bottom picture, I created a wall to divide that area from the eating spaces.
In each cabin I installed a sink a toilet and a toilet paper stand. The middle door lead to the kitchen storage, which is attached at the back of the cafĂŠ.
