Put a Cork on it “It was dumb Luck” according to Drew Baggett. Since the mid 90’s he’s been working with EPS and epoxy surfboards but when a representative from Core Composites stopped by with a roll of cork it changed everything. Baggett has been experimenting with all types of veneers, carbon fiber on his vacuum bag construction, the boards would be real strong but too stiff. Adding a layer of cork to the deck dampened the chatter that epoxy boards have and gave it a better flex. After Baggett approached Matt Biolos of Lost Surfboards and having team riders, Mason Ho and Kolohe Andino give positive feed back Lost is on board with cork board construction. Its now available at Hawaiian South Shore come down and check it out. The Cork technology is called C3 Cork Carbon Composite Construction takes the rare performance characteristics of light weight, flex and durability, and puts them together to create a unique surfboard that is truly worth the additional coin compared to normal PU/Poly. These boards feature stringerless EPS blanks with carbon rails and an exposed cork deck. Stringerless EPS Blank - is ultra light with lots of flex and epoxy resin the can bend more before cracking. The Carbon Rail gives it strength with real lively sprint out of turns. The Exposed Cork Deck reinforces the deck and absorbs vibration and flexes with the board. The board is about $150 more then a standard PU/Poly board. So is it worth it? YES!!!, The cork adds Fin set up: H3 Quad + Small Nubster strength to the board thus adding deck life, plus the Right away I felt da board paddled well!! Hawaiian South Shore Your Surf Authority Expert Advice & Friendly Staff Since 1996 -----What the Locals are saying about Straw Hat Wetsuit----Peter D - When I first tried it on, the fit is unlike any other, I felt like it was much more flexible, especially where it counts, in the shoulders and arms. I also liked the front zip, because my current 2 mm is so hard to take off, it was actually hurting my shoulders. Also, the front zip does not detract from the warmth and wind resistance of the suit. So far, so good! Sean Wearing the all smooth skin Mitch M. - This is by far the best fitting wetsuit I’ve ever owned. The full front zipper 2mm Front Zip makes it super easy to take on and off. The other huge plus is the flexibility and cut Jacket of the material, which allows for a relaxed, natural feel and does not hinder your
paddle strength. I have no doubt my new wetsuit will extend my surf sessions by keeping me warm. Overall, I’m very stoked on it and would recommend it to those looking for a new wetsuit. 5 Weird Ways that help you eat less Hopefully this helps you durning the holiday season 1. Eat with your non-dominant hand. One intriguing new study offers a simple antidote to the mindless munching that often accompanies watching movies or TV: Just switch hands—and you’ll eat less. The researchers randomly handed moviegoers a bucket of fresh popcorn or “cold, wet, spongy week-old” popcorn. Those who said they usually ate popcorn at the movies shoveled down just as much whether the popcorn was fresh or stale. But in a separate experiment, the scientists found that when people were asked to eat with their non-dominant hand, they consumed 30 percent less. 2. Take a look in the mirror. While you eat, sit in front of a mirror. One study found that when people watch themselves eat, consumption of high-calorie food (such as full-fat cream cheese) drops by nearly a third, possibly because seeing themselves eat reminds them of their diet and health goals. 3. Immerse yourself in blue. Use blue plates, blue napkins, a blue tablecloth, even paint your dining room walls blue or use blue lights. According to a 2006 study by Dr. Val Jones, gala attendees ate 33 percent less in a room bathed in blue light. That’s probably because we associate blue with toxic or moldy food, so we eat less. Yellow and red had the opposite effect, which is why fast-food restaurants favor those appetite-stimulating colors. 4. Use your sense—smell, that is. Sniffing a banana, apple or peppermint helps the weight come off. Just ask the 3,000 people who tried this during a study at the Smell & Taste Treatment and Research Foundation in Chicago. The more often they sniffed those aromas, the more weight they lost, with an average drop of nearly 30 pounds during the 6-month study among those who inhaled the scents the most frequently. Some participants shed up to 18 pounds in a month. Apparently, by frequent smelling we trick the brain into thinking we actually ate the food. 5.Try the “toothpaste diet.” Instead of reaching for a sweet treat after a meal, brush your teeth with mint-flavored toothpaste. The minty flavor signals that the meal is over, helping curb cravings. Plus, mint doesn’t mix well with most foods, so the food doesn’t taste that good anyway—and the feeling of fresh, clean teeth is so enjoyable, grabbing a donut or candy bar may not seem worth losing the freshness. -- Yahoo.com/health By Lisa C
