and I think that’s helped me For the past 2 years Eric has been a very important part of Hawaiian South Shore. Matter of fact he’s been one of the most reliable part timers we’ve had in 18 years. He’s never called in sick and he’ll voluntarily stay late to complete whatever task he sets out to do that day. There’s been numerous times he stayed late to pack boards to delivery to the mainland or other parts of the world and then drive it down to Delta or Aloha Air Cargo. He’s always concerned about getting the mail order out as fast as possible. The small package orders we get he’ll drive to the main post office and drops it off knowing that it will get delivered faster to our customers. Like I said I am super stoked to have him on board as a team member. He’s Originally from Fallbrook, California, just North of San Diego known for their Avocados. He always likes to say that no one knows where my small town is.
The only people that know of it are people in the Military or people from San Diego. His Dad’s in the Navy and when he received orders to Hawaii Eric couldn’t resist the opportunity to move. He speaks Highly of his Dad who’s an Engine Department Master Chief, he’s basically in charge of the Nuclear Departments for the submarines for his squadron. Eric says proudly that his Dad was super strict, and its because of that, that he is who he is today. Currently Eric is pre-med and taking off from school to take care of his mom. He believes family comes first. Since he’s been here he’s learned so much about surfing. He’s always talking to the Surf Industry representatives about equipment so he can give the best advice possible to all our members who come in. He likes to Longboard and Surfs Barbers Point fence side and recently started surfing Wailupe.

New @ Hawaiian South Shore Toms Sunglasses TOMS founder Blake Mycoskie befriended children in a village in Argentina and saw that they didn’t have adequate shoes to protect their feet. Wanting to help, he created TOMS Shoes, a company that would match every pair of shoes purchased with a pair of new shoes for a child in need. One for One. This brand caught on with the celebrities and Tom’s just exploded. Then in 2011, the One for One model was expanded to TOMS Eyewear. With every pair purchased, TOMS helps restore sight to a person in need. One for One. I like the concept so much we now carry Toms Eyewear. Come down and check it out we have over 60 pairs in stock. The quality and fit are awesome.

We’ve got Your Back So Move Forward
I like the Toms concept so much I am taking that idea and applying it here at a local level and I seriously need your help!! I’m starting a backpack donation campaign called “We’ve got Your Back, So Move Forward”. With the help of my Good Friend Lyle Fujikawa I was able to meet with Senator Jill N. Tokuda and Representative Roy M. Takumi, Senator Tokuda both are on the Education committee. After a lengthy discussion on how to donate the backpack and what school to help, we all agreed to work with Jarrett Middle School in Palolo. Representative Takumi
Most of the kids in this community need assists and Ms. Chock the principal has implemented a program called “Accelerated Reading”. It’s about teaching kids to be independent and learn the habit of reading. At beginning of school year the home room teacher sets a goal for the kids, and at end of each quarter the student that reach their set goal receives a prize. I thought this is perfect!! I felt just giving kids a backpack doesn’t teach them anything. I want them to be independent and not dependent in life. I’ve committed to 500 backpacks. To be honest, after committing to all 500 and a
week later, I was thinking “Oh Boy what did I get myself into?”, but this is my way to repay what I was given in the past. You see, when I was growing up my parents couldn't afford a lot of things. Of course I didn't realize it at the time my parents couldn't afford to get me christmas presents. So we use to visit Santa and the presents came from the Marine Corps Toy for Tots program. So I am obligated to do my part to help kids in need and hopefully even if it’s one kid that grows up and helps his or her community out, well, I believe I’ve made a difference. Oh, before I forget to tell you the backpack is $38. For every one backpack we sell we’re donating one to Jarrett Middle School. And I am super blessed to have two awesome stores that are helping me out. Rainbow Drive in on Kahahulu ave, yep they have Ono Plate lunch but they also have a cool retail store on site. The other store is called “A Little Bit of Everything” located on Kapiolani right across the street from Lamborghini and Ferrari. Valerie Kubota who owns the store is real cool and her story is even more interesting. She started the store about 4 years ago after a successful career as a VP and Area Manager of a Local Bank. How’s that?? Starting a new career and getting into retail at that. As a Banker I’m sure she knew the big risks but it’s now 4 years for her!! Go check her out! The address is 725 Kapiolani Blvd. It’s on the ground floor and yep, she validates parking.
