CHANCE’EM BRAND GIVES BACK TO NORTH SHORE’S YOUTH

CHANCE'EM is a locally established company, founded on the North Shore of Oahu in 2010 by a close group of local surfers (Justin Lambert, Flynn Novak and Paul Chambers) determined to make a difference within the North Shore Community. CHANCE‘EM’s mission as a company is to give back to the community through fund raising, support and investment of personal time. The company was originally started in order to raise money for High-school surf programs on the North The Surf Team Shore through fundraising events. With these event’s came stickers and T-shirts as raffle prizes for anyone who attended. Over the last few years the company has reinvented itself into a really cool product line with an emphasis on supporting youth enrichment programs throughout the community. Currently the brand is featured in local stores on the North Shore: Aoki’s North Shore Trading Company, Surf-N-Sea and The North Shore Watershed at Turtle Bay. (and at Hawaiian South Shore) Another great aspect of the brand involves their communitybased concept of supporting local business. CHANCE’EM is proud to say that all CHANCE’EM products are locally produced through partnerships with other North Shore Businesses such as, Woolley Brothers Screen Printing and North Shore Embroidery. With these new partnerships formed and other businesses to follow, CHANCE’EM will continue to lead the community’s campaign to help establish surfing as a legitimate scholastic sport recognized in all public schools across the state of Hawaii. With an incredibly catchy name and a really great mission statement, it’s no surprise that CHANCE’EM has been able to successfully raise enough money and support within the community to create and fund the Waialua High School Surf Team for the last 2 years. The team at Waialua has been very dedicated to showing great sportsmanship during competitions and many have joined the team simply because it’s something fun for them to be a part of. This year’s team was led by surfers Taoa Pao, Keoni Picollo, and Isaiah McShane. Next year's team for 2013-2014 will see an addition of a talented 9th graders including, Honolua Blomfield, Kameron Dowis, Diego Da Silveira, Tristan Bohannan, and Kaikea Farrell. With the new up-and-coming kids on the team for next year, it’s looking to be a really exciting season. (continued on page 2)

(continued from front cover) Due to OIA budget cuts and lack of funding, public-school surf programs have become a private sector that requires outside assistance from third parties. CHANCE’EM co-founder Flynn Novak states, “We’ve been working really hard to help the kids at Waialua and it’s so amazing to see the community supporting our cause. Flynn also mentions, “We really owe so much to our team coaches, Ethan Chang and Carrie Yossa. Without their dedication of personal time with the kids, none of this would be possible.” High-school surf Flynn Novak & coaching is completely volunteer-based and is not a paid position in schools at Paul Chambers @ the moment. With certain DOE requirements, the expenses for a team can be very Hawaiian South Shore costly. These expenses include surf-coach certifications, insurance coverage, contest fees and junior life-guard certifications, all of which are not currently being covered under the school’s budget. The best part about the program is that all team members are required to maintain a GPA of 2.0 or higher in order to participate in practices and competition. Marsha Dupont, one of Wailaua’s teachers responsible for helping to organize the team states, “I really think it’s amazing what the boys at CHANCE’EM are doing for the kids. I’ve known these guys ever since they were little and it’s really great to see them now giving back to their old high-school Alma mator.” CHANCE’EM also sponsors other youth related events such as The 36th Annual Menehune Surf Competition and the 1st Annual Makalapua Arthritis Foundation Golf Tournament. Original founder of CHANCE’EM, Justin Lambert states, “We are extremely fortunate to be based in one of the greatest communities in the world and our philosophy will always remain the same…never forget our Island roots”. The boys at CHANCE’EM are 100% dedicated to supporting youth related programs specifically on the North Shore, however the ultimate goal is to eventually help support a wide variety of youth enrichment programs throughout the entire State. Although CHANCE’EM does focus much of its attention on the North Shore and Surfing, their ultimate goal is to share the CHANCE’EM philosophy to other Surfers, Skaters, Riders, Racers, Jumpers, Fliers, Divers, Climbers...you name it! Live Life, "CHANCE'EM" and give back! Long or Short Proctor can help After 20 years of shaping and numerous articles and many achievements Proctor is now in the elite status. His #1 goal is to talk directly with each person ordering a custom board. When you get to the volume that Proctor Surfboards produces, this kind of service is usually reserve for the “pro’s” and the “elite”. His goal from the very start and still, his goal is the one on one direct contact with surfers of all levels to help take their surfing to the next level. While still maintaining high quality and design. “I enjoy making boards for many of the world’s most talented surfers; their feedback pushes me as a designer to shape boards that respond to the highest demands of performance surfing – I bring that same level of quality and attention to you” - Todd Proctor (“You” in the case refers to all surfers ordering a custom board) The first time I heard of Proctor surfboards is a couple years ago. Someone mentioned a youtube video about Jay Phillips surfing the Lil’ Rascal model in Malibu. If you haven’t seen the video you should check it out, it’s amazing how Jay gets so much speed without a lot of effort. He rides past the longboarders, its actually a pretty funny watching him maneuver from behind like he’s on a formula one race car. After a couple of years dealing with Proctor I can understand why so many give him such high ratings in his reviews. Our repeat custom orders we get from our members speaks volumes. Both Longboarders and Shortboarders the reorder custom boards upgrade to the higher level of construction. I can totally understand why because of the awesome flex and super strength that’s offered at Proctor is amazing especially the Titanium Series with no stringer and Kevlar deck. “The Titanium Series construction features Parabolic Carbon-Rail Suspension System with Kevlar Compression Patch and high-grade flexural engineered epoxies. This is not a molded board. Built in-house from start to finish in our factory in Ventura, CA USA. This is the strongest, most high performance board that I make. Tested over the last five years and proven to be 5+ times stronger than any polyester board. The Titanium Series has an increased recoil and push-back out of turns and can handle the heaviest barrels out there. Made out of recyclable components. This construction available in all board models.” - Todd Proctor Want a Custom Board and chat with Todd Proctor to get that magic board? Act Now and Order a Custom Proctor Surfboard. Hawaiian South Shore Your Surf Authority Expert Advice & Friendly Staff Since 1996 The Reviews from our Members

Got to surf the 7'2" Stewart S-Winger in 2-3 feet surf at Threes surf spot. Everything Bill Stewart said about the board was true. The 5-fins set-up was perfect for the board. What was most noticeable on my first wave was the amount of speed the board generated immediately on take-off and throughout the whole wave. Although the board is bigger than my 6'3", it still had (as you said) that performance feel to it. I'll need a few more sessions on the board to get really dialed-in. Showed it to the Sunday morning crew that were out in the lineup and all of them were trippin'. After the session, as I was walking on the beach, a few of the staff at one of the beach boy stands asked to check out the board. They, too, were trippin' and one even said that he was going to check out the 7'6" demo at your shop. - Dominic E I have known david kelly since 1997 & always liked his store because they are friendly & attentive to my needs - in short, I have a ;good time' always there "Found What I Was Looking For And For A Good Price. Staff Was Cool." - Kamanaoio G Wailuku HI "The people that work there are the reason I return and buy all my surfing accessories and clothes there." - Jay B Honolulu HI "Knowledgeable staff with friendly supportive attitude was a great plus. Been surfing all my life but still learning the mechanics of board & fin design. A freindly helpful staff with experience in explaining the theory behind fin/board design stands out in my mind. I work hard & with my hard-earned money I occasionally like to spend it on surf gear. I will gladly patronize a store that respects me as a customer & fellow waterman. What I've grown tired of is any salesperson young or old who is not customer-service oriented. I will take my money somewhere else. As I've grown older I feel the necessity to support & be loyal to a surf shop for the various accessories I need. Your Royalty Rewards program gives back to the customer and for this I am appreciative. " - Diego R Pearl City
