“Livin in Paradise Paradise””

Aloha All, March is over and April is here. I thought things are supposed to be warming up? Seems like it’s just as cold now as in Dec. and not just the air but the water seems like it’s a bit cooler. Oh well I guess that’s what wetsuits are for. In this months issue we take a look at SUP, stand up paddle boards. “How to choose the right board”. and will recap our fashion show, surf movie night we hosted last month. Keith Kajjioka Manager`

Which stand up paddle board is right for me???? By Keith Kajioka This question is perhaps the most asked question we hear at the store. Our response to this question is based on what we know and figured out on our own and from feedback from others over the past year or so. It all depends….depends on what you plan on doing with the board or what you imagine yourself doing with the board. Don’t believe the hype. Don’t go smaller than what you feel comfortable with. Remember the boards look big on

land or in the shop, but once you put them in the water and stand on them it’s a whole different story. Ask yourself what are you really going to use the board for? I would say 80% of the people I talk to, firstly want a board to be stable enough to just paddle for exercise when the waves are flat and then secondly catch waves and surf. The comment I hear pretty often is “if get waves I rather surf surf”. If you plan on using the board for conditioning and exercise then I would suggest at least 10’6 to 11’6 depending on your weight and height. A longer board will paddle straighter and glide better on the water, not to mention it will be more stable and less effort trying to balance in rough water. If you plan on mostly going out in the lineup and surfing then a shorter board will be better. Its pretty simple, a shorter board will turn and respond quicker, a longer board will be more stable and plane better on the surface but not turn as good for surfing. Shorter sizes for surfing range from 9’0 to 10’6 again depending on your weight and height. If you have questions or would like to find out more about stand up paddle boards, give us a call or stop by the store. We are excited to be partnering with C4 Waterman to offer the best selection of C4 boards, paddles, and accessories all in one shop. We also carry Surftech, South

Special Events On March 29th Hawaiian South Shore hosted a fashion show and movie night. It was all done to promote Hawaii’s underground designers and artists. It gave them a free venue to showcase their talents via a fashion show. Immediately after the show Globe’s new surf film was projected onto the building in the parking lot.
