Aloha All, It's already March?! Seems like this year is going to fly by again. Springtime is one of my favorite times of the year, I guess because the weather warms up and the waves seem less crowded. In this months issue we take a look at the Indo Board Balance Trainer, and have you ever had a burning sensation in your eyes after surfing? Read the article and find out a way to cure it. Also in this issue we
“Burning Eyes” “Burning Eyes” By David Kelly Hawaiian South Shore I recently went to my Optometrist for an eye exam. I told her that I was getting a burning sensation when duck diving a wave. She said that might be caused by a bacterium that forms on the eyelids and cause you to get the burning. One of the best ways to take care of that is gently scrub the lid margins using a q-tip or a washcloth

with diluted baby shampoo then Rinse the eyes well with warm water. You can also use lid scrub pad per-made for lid cleansing. She also gave me a hand out to read. It was about “Blepharitis a medical term which describes inflammation of the eye lids. It is usually a chronic condition that when treated gets better, if not it may spread to the glands causing styes or to the eye surface causing the white of the eye to be reddened (conductivities). “Blepharitis often causes the lids to cause the lids to product an oily discharge which leaves the eyelids stuck shut in the morning. So I guess I am going to be cleaning my eyes before I get “Blepharitis”

Hi Indo Board, I'm 36 years old with a demanding corporate job at a Fortune 500 company. I've been surfing for 30 years and I'm lucky if I get to surf 3 or 4 times a month these days. I can't stand the gym and I'm always trying to find different ways of cross training, so I can stay on my short board and not be forced to ride long boards due to lack of fitness. Since I started using your Indo Board, my leg strength and balanced have improved tremendously. You have truly created a product that will allow me to further enjoy my passion for years to come! Thank you, Derek W. Zirkle Los Angeles, CA

Brian Lafferty with Margaret and Matt
Matt Calvani at HSS By Keith Matt Calvani and Margaret Yao of Bing and Jacobs Surfboards made a visit to Hawaiian South Shore on Saturday Feb 23. It was a good opportunity for anyone who had an interest in Bing or Hap Jacobs surfboards to come in to the shop and meet the person responsible for shaping those boards in person. Those that made it got a chance to talk shop with Matt about surfboard design and theory. The next ‘meet and greet’ with Matt will likely be next year so stay tuned and don’t miss the next opportunity to meet this very talented shaper. We would like to thank Matt and Margaret for taking time out of their hectic travel schedule to come hang out at the store and meet with the customers.
Under Ground Fashion Designers About two months ago I seen Sara next door at Bernina , she just finished her sewing class for the day. We got to talking about her Awdisy clothing and I told her she should do a fashion show, well one thing let to another and with Keith’s help we are happy to present a fashion show… HSS is really stoked to help these guys
My name is Sarah Uchida. I am 24 years young. Born and raised in Honolulu, I was the youngest of three children... now I'm the youngest of two. We lost my sister two years ago. Though painful, it inspired me to use my broken heart to comfort others. I own a thriving clothing company called Awdisy Intervention that encourages people to talk out and walk out their pain, their hurt, their valleys with someone they trust. Awdisy Intervention is a new company and for now it just produces graphics on t-shirts for both men and women. My designers have the background of surfing, skating and 'street art' but my targeted audience is anyone who has experienced pain to encourage them to keep 'moving forward with the memories'. That is what the play button symbolizes; to move in a forward direction at a steady pace.

Under Ground Fashion Designers Kory Kawaguchi Pieces by: Michele Leong I recently graduated from Pacific Lutheran University with a degree in Art, Sociology & a minor in Psychology, with the intent of studying for a Masters in Art Therapy. It has been almost two years since I have returned home to Oahu from the Seattle-Tacoma area in Washington, and rediscovered a passion and interest for making wearable art/jewelry instead. I am a bit of a contextual sponge when I create; soaking up random ideas, concepts through conversation, and current trends, while adding a bit of local flair & personality to my designs. Being surrounded & influenced by the natural beauty and multiculturalism unique to Hawaii is unparalleled in experience; however the 'everyday' that surrounds us is easily overlooked and it becomes a challenge & privilege to rediscover the taken for granted through creative expression. I admire and aspire to mimic those in the fashion & jewelry industry who incorporate eco-conscious ideals into their designs; using organic, recyclable, vintage, local & sustainable materials, as well as found objects at thrift stores, grandma's closet & garage sales, while revitalizing them into one-ofa-kind hand made pieces. Drone started back in 2006 and was created as a reminder that working hard sucks, but it’s a part of everyday life, so you might as well do a great job, and enjoy everyday of your life. Know a bum around town? Buy um a shirt! Drone inc. supports the world! Drone shirts have only been recently printed in January 08. So it’s still new and under development!
Cassandra Rull I recently began sewing at the end of September 2007. Seeing cute dresses on other local girls inspired me, along with seeing cute clothes in boutique shops. I bought my first sewing machine, and fabric, and starting putting things together. After spending over three hours a day, trying to perfect each piece, I’ve grown more confident in my sewing skills. I’ve done many trial and errors to get to where I am right now, despite the fact that I have so much to learn. I have recently finished my first big project, making bridesmaid dresses. With only two short months of sewing experience I was asked to do this. I took on the challenge; not knowing how much work it was going to be. After months and months of stress and hard work, I finished the dresses. The bride couldn’t have been more stoked on it, and it turned out exactly how she dreamed it would be.
