DESIGN BRIEF THREE WORDS -COLLECTING -MOVING -REFLECTING

The Corporate Library Collecting is a fundamental human desire, a human behaviour and a human art. In this project specifically, collecting is using limited space/volume to contain an almost unlimited number of objects. Collected things/objects, before sharing -- Libraries, Museums, Exhibition centres, and galleries are examples of collecting places. Moving is made by living objects or natural elements. Moving means object(s)/element(s) from point A to point B and even continue to the other points after having reached point B. Moving and journeying are similar, sometimes moving creates a journey but sometimes the opposite, In any case the designer creates them both at same time in an accessible space. Reflecting can represent time out, to study, to think, digest, observe, but it is also a visual effect. Materials covered by shining and smooth surface, such as mirror and glass. Reflecting can be an action. Comparing things, theories, minds, conversation are human behaviours. Reflecting is making opposite of the objects or others.

The SPACE align to the three words Collecting space is associated with cloakroom, book stacks, periodical area and reading area. Moving space is associated with reception and lobby. Reflecting space is associated with discussion room and theatre hall. People published or exchanged their thoughts to each other in books or conversation. The three words can be found in the library. A business library would be welcome in the business area.

The feeling in the SPACE The library is open for local people who work in the central business district, as well as Business College students etc. I have considered that workers are tired after working, and would like to go and relax, but still have a connection with work to get the work done and ease stress. It can be a place to go with co workers at lunch time to discuss, or an accessible resource anytime during work hours. The library should provide some isolated and enclosed spaces as well as more open and public spaces in the daytime to categorise peoples needs and more open and transparent space at night, as a place for meeting, waiting, searching, sharing, getting together.

The SIZE in the SPACE The total area is 1200m2 - CLOAKROOM/ LOCKERS = 45 m2 - COMPUTER AREA = 90 m2 - PERIODICAL AREA = 250 m2 - BOOK STACKS = 250 m2 - STORAGE/ close stack = 200 m2 - LOBBY = 45 m2 - WAITING SPACE = 10 m2 - READING AREA = 250 m2 - DISCUSSION ROOM = 9 m2 x 5 - RECEPTION/loan & return = 9 m2 - CAFÉ = 70 m2 - ADMIN OFFICE = 45 m2 - THEATRE HALL = 200 m2 - TOILETS = 27 m2 x4 the total area = 1617 m2

How does the built form relate to SITE The site is surrounded by commercial towers. Having a business library in the site as a platform can help and encourage the workers and students of business and offices having more meeting more experience in sharing more knowledge and keeping each other updated on new events, topics or new technologies. It will provide a foundation of knowledge that will aim to see businesses flourish and grow. The library will be appreciated in providing a more diverse environment for workers specifically and commuters or students to relate to each other and accommodate for longer working hours, by a collection of information. It may also be a ground for business talks and host a range of activities in the area, such as promoting companies, products (technology) or for aspiring business students. The space will house a number of fixed activities as outlined, but there will be flexible, movable spaces for interaction, and reflecting.
