Personal Statement I have always been passionate about the natural environment and its conservation. After completing my undergraduate degree in Environmental Science, I looked for a career that would enable me to have a more active role in its preservation and understanding. Studying landscape architecture has allowed me to design meaningful spaces in which people can enjoy being outdoors in a way that respects the natural environment, combining my personal and professional interests. My key areas of interest include resiliance to climate change and managing the landscape in a way that allows it to support both nature and the increasing human population. This portfolio contains some of the key projects that I have worked on since beginning my career as a landscape in 2017.

Landscape reinstatement and enhancement works at several sites along the flood defence asset, impacted as part of engineering works to protect Burton from flooding from the River Trent. CONCEPT AND DESIGN DEVELOPMENT 1 in 200 year flood level Due to spatial constraints, landscape opportunities were limited at these locations to reinstatement. Diagrammatic plans and sections were produced to illustrate this collaboratively and at a public consultation event, showing where necessary, proximity to locations where enhancements were being proposed to further mitigate effects of the scheme.

PROJECT SUMMARY:

In progress. Areas affected by the Flood Risk Management Scheme improved where possible, in some cases retaining and celebrating historic assets. Proposals include public realm enhancements in key areas, as well increasing overall tree cover and species diversity in the area.

DETAILED DESIGN At Toad Hole Woodland, native tree, shrub and wildflower planting was proposed here to further mitigate for impacts of the wider scheme by improving the community woodland. Constraints such as light, services, access and maintenance were all considered leading to low maintenance propsals in keeping with guidance from the local authority, services providers and community action groups.

DETAILED DESIGN Works at Green Street were sensitive due to a section of the flood wall being historic, and the site being located within a conservation area. Proposals FLOOD involved retention of some High School elements of the historic flood wall, improvements to the seating area and addition of interpretation signage to further inform visitors about heritage.

LANDSCAPE ENHANCEMENT - LLYN TEGID

PROJECT BRIEF:

Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment and Landscape Character Assessment to determine impacts of engineering works and inform mitigation and enhancement landscape proposals. Significant disruption of priority habitats and tree loss were anticipated as part of Reservoir Safety Works, located within a sensitive site (Ramsar Site, Special Area of Conservation, Site of Special Scientific Interest).

DETAILED DESIGN

LVIA and LCA of impacts of proposed works and associated tree loss for inclusion within a full Environmental Impact Assessment for the project. Existing access and amenity provisions analysed. Access Audit produced, identifying key areas and opportunities for wider improvement as part of mitigation for the works. Concept development of site wide mitigation and enhancement opportunities based on site analysis and assessment. Design development of proposals selected by the client from initial concept opportunities identified. Final proposals detailed and submitted.

PROJECT SUMMARY:

In progress. Landscape proposals for the area focus on improved seating and accessibility, and ensureing no net loss of trees and an overall increase in biodiversity. A more concise family of elements is proposed, reusing timber and slate materials from felled trees and the existing flood defence, these will be used to create a range of bespoke elements for the scheme such as gabion basket and timber seating.
