Visitor’s Hospital Floor Plan Layout

Tourist Hospital

Peña Blanca, Honduras The purpose of the tourist hospital was to draw tourist seeking specialty medical procedures at a low cost rate and would accommodate a patient and their family member for an extended amount of stay during the recovery period. Peña Blanca is located near Lake Yojoa a large ecological tourist destination. The mission of Pan American Health Services (PAHS) is to attract tourist to use their facilities and highlight the natural beauty of Honduras and connect it with Lake Yojoa. The proceeds and finances that are received would tie right back to the mission oriented (PAHS) to help run their local facilities.

The hospital has a full scale fitness and wellness center, two doctor’s offices, a transitional patient room, and two surgical rooms. The building was designed to take full advantage of the Honduran climate by providing a wide open corridor featuring natural light, patient rooms that face towards the view of the local landscape, and features jalousie windows to aid in the transfer of natural air flow during extreme hot weather conditions.

Community Hospital/ Medical School Peña Blanca, Honduras

The community hospital’s purpose is to serve the community of Peña Blanca and neighboring communities surrounding the Lake Yojoa region. The closest hospitals are both an hour and a half away. The hospital in San Pedro Sula has a very poor hospital record and is guarded by local military due to the extreme violence in the city. The community hospital has a medical ward, a neonatal care wing, a pediatrician wing, a CT scan area, pharmacy and an emergency room. The community hospital also has a nursing school which works in conjunction with PAHS and a neighboring university within walking distance from the PAHS campus. Community Hospital/ Medical School

cause many uncomfortable conditions so the room has jalousie windows which allow for natural air flow and also helps block the heat from the direct sunlight and a clerestory to allow for proper air ventilation throughout the space.

The large windows in the public spaces help allow an abundance of natural light into the facility and also to create a view of the mountainous region surrounding the community. PAHS is a non-profit organization so many of the amenities are kept to a minimal in order to save on cost. The facility incorporates many passive cooling strategies in order to heat, cool, and ventilate the facility.

Twin Cities Conference Center Site Layout

Twin Cities Conference Center St. Joseph, Mi.

The premise for the Twin Cities Conference Center was to design a place that would bridge the gap between two neighboring communities that had seen years of unrest between the two due to racial, social, and class tensions. The conference center sole purpose is to not only hold various conferences for small and large businesses but also operate as a hotel that has two restaurants, retail shops, a fitness center, a swimming pool and a banquet hall. Another highlight of the Twin Cities conference site is the band shell located near the lake that is to be used for residents of both neighboring communities helping to bridge the gap thru public interaction with festivals and live music performances.

Twin Cities Conference Center Sketches

Twin Cities Conference Center The Twin Cities Conference Center has a hotel which consist of five floors that range in four different room types, single and double bed rooms, as well as single and double bed suites. The hotel has a fitness center, a business center for traveling professionals, and a swimming pool located on the 2nd floor of the roof.

Design Ideas of the Twin Cities Conference Center The Twin Cities Conference Center has a three tower layout that takes advantages of the views facing the neighboring cities of St. Joseph and Benton Harbor and a public open space on the second floor which faces the beautiful beaches of St. Joe and Lake Michigan. In order to take full advantage of a site that is presently a parking lot, I designed the parking lot underground which can be accessed from the lower parking garage level on the rear of the building and from a community park on the upper level between the conference center and the county building.

Carriage House Front Elevation

Norton Commons Louisville, Ky

Norton Commons is a new housing development located on the outskirts of Louisville, KY. The project was to create a residential home within a neighborhood that centered on the concept of a community pool. Each person was given their own plot to design a home but they all had to have the same characteristics of homes in the Louisville area. The house is a two story shotgun style design with a porch on the lower level and a balcony on the upper level each one designed to address the view of the Jimsen Square pool located in the front. Additionally there is a carriage house for parking cars with an apartment space located upstairs for low income tenants, college students, or elderly residents.
