ATOMY WEE CARE CENTER Retail Design This is a commissioned project for the brand Atomy, which is a Korean brand that provides cosmetics and personal care products as well as supplements and household items. Atomy Wee Care Center is located in Dumai, Indonesia. In collaboration with my colleague, we had researched and designed Atomy Wee Care Center using a concept based on the brand’s identity and beliefs as well as following the client’s requirements.
// 7 \\
// 8 \\
THE CONCEPT As the name states, “Atomy” is inspired by atoms, as the brand values their connection with their communities. Atomy’s design language is inspired by the shape of a swan’s wings, which shows a rolling effect, symbolizing the brand’s growing image. The concept of the design is derived from the connection of these two beliefs of the brand showing connectivity and seamlessness of round edges, just like a swan’s wings.

QUESTIONAIRS WITH THE CLIENT 1. What is the purpose of the proposed retail store? Atomy is a Korean skincare and health brand that aims to provide top quality products at the lowest prices to customers all over the world 2. How would you like the brand essence to be conveyed to the space? I would say atomy is very simple and true to its identity so that’s what the space should be. 3. What type of functions will the space require? I want the customers to come into the store and leave with the knowledge about atomy and the products, so there should be a consultation area for any discussions with the customers. I also want them to be able to test our products and know that we are here to provide our service. So, I want to have a testing area and at least one facial salon chairs to provide the customers the full experience. 4. What mood do you want the space to convey to your customers? The customers should feel comfortable and relaxed. 5. What are your personal design preferences and would you like to integrate them to the design? You must use the colors of Atomy of course, that’s the brand’s identity.

MASTER BEDROOM Japandi Design This is a commissioned project, in collaboration with a colleague, to design a master bedroom for the client and her husband in Batam, Indonesia. The master bedroom features Japandi inspired design as the client had requested muted tones that promote a clean and bright ambience throughout the space.

THE CONCEPT The concept appreciates the simplicity and functionality of the space. This is incorporated through the use of a bright muted color palette and simple shapes of furniture to promote comfort and coziness in the space. Materials such as concrete and wood are used in a way where the neutral tone of the concrete help emphasize the warmer tone of the wood, creating balance throughout the space. Marble is also used as an accent and as a contrast to the Japandi design.

THE SITE The allocated site is at 48/50 Arab Street located in the Kampong Glam region which is known for its Muslim community. The kampung area had been a monumental and historical site in Singapore for as long as the 1800s, therefore, the area is rich in Malay and Javanese culture, having the Malay Heritage Center, the Sultan Mosque as some of its many attractions. As well as other streets in the Kampong Glam, shophouses mostly occupy the Arab Street, including the site, which creates a contrast between surrounding modern buildings. The existing site is currently occupied by a wedding dress shop, an F&B outlet and a hostel.

CURRENT SITUATION Malay and Javanese traditional postnatal massages are not practiced accurately and might lead to risks to the mother and their baby. Also, Singapore mothers are becoming less strict in following the traditional practices and confinement rituals due to demand of modern ways of recovery.
PROJECT GOALS Due to these circumstances, the goal is to preserve the true practices of Malay and Javanese birthing traditions that highly benefits the rejuvenation of postnatal mothers, strengthening their physical and mental wellbeing.

// 40 \\
THE CONCEPT “Nurture in the form of Nature” comes from nurturing new moms through the connection with natural elements. Inspired by a mother’s womb, the design and circulation reflect the program and idea of rejuvenation of the mother’s womb after birth. The programs are placed strategically according to the stages of the Javanese traditional practice where postnatal moms will be introduced to the first stage on the top floor, leading downwards to the fourth floor for the next stages, following to the third floor for the final stage.

RECEPTION - FIRST FLOOR When entering the building, the audience is immediately greeted by the reception as well as the soothing sound and sight of the waterfall that goes through the building from top to bottom. The roof of the building allows skylight to fill up the space which blurs the boundary between interior and exterior as soon as you enter the space. The seamless design of the interior promotes rhythm, guiding the audience through an effortless flow of the space.
// 50 \\
DINING LOUNGE FIRST FLOOR The dining lounge is the last stage of the Javanese Postnatal Massage process. Here is where postnatal moms enjoy traditional meals and special Javanese tea that is beneficial for their recovering womb. The design of the space incorporates light wood and cream carpet in contrast to the furniture and plant wall, creating a calming and tranquil ambience.
// 51 \\
// 52 \\
// 53 \\
SENGKAK MASSAGE AREA AT TIC FLOOR The Sengkak Massage Area is the first step of the Javanese Postnatal Massage process. The space is designed as a semi-enclosed space with the use of curtains. The back wall of each massage area is made of linen textured glass which allows an adequate amount of light inside as well as provides the necessary privacy. Due to this, the plants placed outside creates a silhouette that can be seen inside. The warm-tone ambience promotes relaxation which is crucial for postnatal moms.

FITPOINT Human-Centric Design Human Centric Designs are crucial to our everyday life for a better and more ergonomic lifestyle. For the Asia Young Designer Awards Competition (AYDA), Fitpoint is a human-centric design proposal that targets joggers and athletes at the site and improve their quality and experience of exercising. The design compromises of three fitness spaces and the concept influences athletes to each checkpoint that is placed throughout the park in order to complete a full body workout.

// 58 \\
FORT GATE: LEG WORKOUT CHECKPOINT
THE SITE The site of the proposal is at Fort Canning Park in Singapore. Fort Canning Park was once known as Bukit Larangan meaning “Forbidden Hill”, and is one of the most important historical landmarks in Singapore. The park includes many historical features, a hotel, gardens, playgrounds, a fitness area and nature reservoir. It is no surprise that a lot of people including tourists, locals and families come to the park for a tour or during their leisure past time. The proposal focuses on the only fitness area in the park, which was on higher ground overlooking the city which is an ideal location to exercise and feel refreshed. However, the equipment was run down, old and rusty due to weather conditions. There were no proper benches or seats and putting sand is not ideal as it is also unhygienic.

Inspired from the checkpoint symbol and make into a form
Reduce lower part of the form
THE CONCEPT The concept is inspired from how joggers travel from one point to another, such as a marathon, to achieve a destined goal. Therefore, the name “Fitpoint” is derived from checkpoints where the symbol is also reflected in the design.

ZONING All checkpoints have the same layout with the only difference by the type of equipment. The area is open and provided enough space for easy circulation and workout activities.

CRIMSON GARDEN Wallpaper Design Crimson Garden is a wallpaper designed for Craft Axis x LASALLE Wallpaper Competition by me and my colleague. We were asked to design a wallpaper signified for Singapore homeowners under either botanical or grand millennial theme, where we have chosen the botanical theme to be featured in a nursery room.
// 73 \\
// 74 \\
THE INSPIRATION Our inspiration comes from Singapore’s Bird Park and decided to feature birds in our wallpaper as we believe they are closest to nature. We ended up focusing on one bird which was Singapore’s national bird, the Crimson Sunbird, as it is said to ‘fit enough to be a national bird’ due to its red unique colour.
THE CONCEPT The concept appreciates Singapore’s national bird which is the Crimson Sunbird. Amidst our lives under the island’s flourish of brick and steel, the wallpaper artwork narrates a glimpse of nature into our everyday life, as a reminder for the kids that these creatures exist and lives alongside them.
// 75 \\
THE PROCESS With the sense of creating a wallpaper for a nursery in mind, we had decided to go towards a more graphical style using simple solid colours to illustrate our drawings. From the few test layouts, we had chosen to use the one with vines dangling from the top as we wanted to make it more sensible to the audience.
// 76 \\
FINAL DRAFT The final wallpaper features the Crimson Sunbirds flying around the dangling vines accompanied by some yellow and red flowers to match the vivid colour of the birds. The background is a warm cream colour which provides contrast to the main focus of the wallpaper. For the interior room to complement the wallpaper, we decided to present wood and muted green tones into the space to balance the vibrancy of the wallpaper.
