Open concept was applied in the design of the house’s main a. Living, dining and kitchen area are combined to create a large, connected space. Large windows along North-facing wall not only help to maximize view of outside, they also increase sun exposure during winter time, providing natural heat and cut down heating cost in winter. Slanted roof is used to create higher ceiling, widening interior space vertically.
Materials are selected to bring about balance for contrasting combinations of rough versus smooth texture and cool versus warm material. Different types of wood are used throughout the house to introduce warm and cozy feeling necessary for a place surrounded by the forest.
The design of the loft will reference a mix of modern and Art Deco style, incorporating black marble, brown leather and gold and brass details on furniture as well as in architectural elements. The interior will be a big open space featuring clean, geometric lines and shapes as well as an earth-tone color palette, serving as a neutral background to accent the gold and brass elements within the space. The contrast between natural and man-made material like wood, marble and metal is ultilised to achieve the overall balance feel for the interior design. The client is a 32 year-old female working as a freelance fine art illustrator. She is looking to move in a New York loft with her mother who is in a wheelchair, thus she wants to have her loft redesigned to be more ADA accessible while reflecting her strong love for Art Deco style. Due to the nature of her work as an illustrator and her painting hobby, there should be a dedicated area for her painting station (which needs to have room for an easel, stool, canvases and painting supplies), and a working station (ideally a big table with lots of storage) to do her job as a illustrator.

The project was to design a bachelor house. The name ‘Cube House’ was derived from the initial stage of design process where four 3x3x3 foam cubes were used to brainstorm various compositions for the overall shape of the house.
BRANCH lamp was designed to bring a touch of nature into your own home. Its design was inspired by the material that it was made from-wood. The base was made to be more organic looking, with a branch-shaped body sitting on top of a wooden base, influenced by the image of a branch growing from a tree trunk. The frame of the lamp shade was made to be rectangular in shape, introducing strong lines to contrast the curvy base. It also help to bring in contemporary element to the design to balance the organic bottom of the lamp. Natural linen fabric was used as shade to make this a more sustainable product.
