DESIGN PHILOSOPHY

The Appalachian Mountains are where my passion for preservation and restoration began. During my undergraduate schooling, I spent much of my time studying the delicate ecosystems of North Georgia. Colorful ephemerals I encountered during field work enchanted me. This initial interest in unassuming plant species spiraled into a new focus in my career. In landscape architecture, I become a part of the analysis, implementation, and management of environmentally sensitive projects. Giving dynamic landscapes the attention they deserve results in more economic and ecologically resilient compositions. Reintroducing oneself into adaptively managed landscapes cultivates relationships with clients and provides opportunities for education. I am appreciative of the attention to detail smaller sites offer, but also the creative opportunities larger sites can provide. Both scales encourage new and memorable moments for those who experience thoughtfully composed spaces. Landscape architecture shapes people’s daily experiences and offers designers a chance to introduce the natural world in small ways.

[01] COMMUNITY DESIGN This section highlights my most recent project reimagining a neighborhood park in Athens, Ga. The projects three main goals were to address drainage issues at the site, activate the site through community engagement opportunities, preserve existing vegetation, and support pedestrian access to the park. GRAPHICS Initial maps were created in ArcGIS Pro and then printed for inital design process. Arc files were then exported into AutoCAD to add in design elements. Plan was rendered in Photoshop using layers exported from the AutoCAD plan. Renderings were produced using site photos and Photoshop.

IRON MOUNTAIN HOUSE COURSE LA Studio 1 : Foundations PROJECT TYPE Individual PROJECT YEAR 2020 PROJECT DESCRIPTION The Iron Mountain House landscape, designed by the Nelson Byrd Woltz firm, is a seamless combination of the natural and built environment. This property was built atop an iron ore mining site, therefore much of the property is integrated into exposed rock. The site exhibited elements of enclosure in its intimate vegetable garden and prospect and refuge in the homes location overlooking a 300-acre farm. Geometric shapes radiate from the house’s architecture forming stairways to access their native wildflower meadows on the property. This project served as a way for students to become familiar with iconic landscape architects and better understand basic design concepts. GRAPHICS

Hand rendered with Prismacolor pencils and micron, traced from photos using a light table.

PROJECT TYPE Individual PROJECT YEAR 2021 PROJECT LOCATION Atlanta, GA PROJECT DESCRIPTION In the spirit of Piet Oudolf’s work, this plaza highlights the performance plants can endow a landscape with. I was to create an institution, select an international renowned landscape architect and let his work inspire the entirety of the design.
