Community Foundation Update (11/21/15) November 21, 2015 Arizona The Community Foundation for Southern Arizona in Tucson has announced that its Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender & Straight Alliance Fund has named Jennie Bennett, Cynthia Garcia, Kevin McCoy, and Timothy Olcott to its board of directors. California The Santa Barbara Foundation has announced grants totaling $300,000 to twelve organizations, with a focus on those in the midst of a capital campaign. Recipients include People's Self-Help Housing, Direct Relief, the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, and the Santa Barbara Zoo. Hawai'i The Hawai'i Community Foundation has announced the opening of its new office in Hilo. The East Hawai'i office will serve as a resource for donors and nonprofit organizations in the region, which has seen a steady increase in philanthropic activity in recent years. Kentucky The Community Foundation of Louisville has announced that startup Inscope Medical Solutions has won $100,000 in non-diluted grant funding as part of the Vogt Innovation and Invention Awards. IMS has developed an innovative technology that optimizes airway intubation, improving the high-risk procedure’s efficiency, speed, and safety. Massachusetts The Boston Foundation has announced that it has doubled its investment to $400,000 in support of training and workforce development in the Boston area through SkillWorks. Additional investments include $350,000 from the city and $500,000 from JPMorgan Chase, for a total of more than $1.2 million. Established by the foundation in 2003 in partnership with city, state, and public and private investors, SkillWorks has put more than five thousand job seekers and underemployed workers on the path to self-sufficiency while serving more than a hundred employers in high-demand industries such as healthcare, construction, financial services, biotech, life sciences, hospitality, and green jobs.


Pennsylvania The Erie Community Foundation has announced that it will award $1 million in Shaping Tomorrow grants in support of multiyear, evidence-based collaborative projects with a high probability of creating sustainable community change as determined by data from Erie Vital Signs. Grants were awarded to Erie’s Public Schools for Tech After Hours ($400,000), Gannon University ($250,000), Primary Health Network ($200,000), and All About Character ($150,000). The Erie County Gaming Revenue Authority is matching the foundation’s $500,000 investment in what is the foundation’s largest grant collaboration to date.
