Here's how some Hawaii companies contributed to local nonprofit organizations in December 2018 and January 2019. REIT Way Hawaii Community Giving Campaign donated $100,000 to Na Hale O Maui to develop affordable housing in West Maui on Monday. The funds will be used toward 12 permanent homes in Lahaina, and once completed the community will consist of 68 homes as well as a neighborhood park. Hawaii Community Foundation Hawaii Community Foundation awarded Roots School in Haiku, Maui, $15,000 in FLEX grants. The statewide grant is competitive as funds are unrestricted and may be used for any variety of needs the nonprofit has. Roots School is a private nonprofit for children in preschool to eighth grade. UH Football Victory Donation Campaign The UH Football Victory Donation Campaign helped generate $25,200 in funding for the Hawaii Foodbank. Corporations committed to donating a set amount for each game won by the University of Hawaii’s football team. After the team’s 8-5 record season, donations included: $10,000 from Landmark Logistics Corporation, $8,000 from Pasha Hawaii, $4,000 from MIRA Construction, $1,600 from Defend Hawaii, $800 from Drew Santos and $800 from Kawika’s Painting. Prince Resorts Hawaii Prince Resorts Hawaii launched a new initiative to encourage employees to volunteer in their community. The Make a Difference campaign will give employees one paid 8-hour day per year to dedicate time to any organization or event of their choice. This initiative comes from research from Deloitte, which found that most employees are not able to volunteer as much as they would like to because they feel they don’t have enough time.

Wells Fargo and Military Warriors Support Foundation Wells Fargo and Military Warriors Support Foundation honored combat veteran, former U.S. Army Capt. Destin Foree in December. He was presented with a key to a move-in ready, mortgage-free home donated by Wells Fargo. Capt. Foree served two combat deployment tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, and is the recipient of the Purple Heart, in addition to medals for bravery and service including the Bronze Star Medal and Iraq Campaign Medal with Campaign Star.
