VOLUMETRIC VESSELS/ PAINTING EXTRACTS

The first phase of the project was to analyze a painting from Le Cobusier’s collection. The idea was to extract contours that would later become vessels to be carried onto the bathhouse project. It was of major importance to develolp the concepts at an early stage. Once the concepts were finalized, the next step was to convert the extracted contours into 3D volumes which are also known as vessels. Later on, some vessels were combined in order to create new shapes that would become part of the bathhouse. The spatial qualities of the vessels were studied through a series of logitudinal and transversal sections.

THE BATHHOUSE

After developing the vessels and a series of studies, it was time to move them into the site given to us. In this case, the site is a cliff located on the palisades along the Hudson River. Knowing the exact location of the site was very helpful at the time of excavating the site. The idea was th excavate the site with the vessels created folloiwing our original concepts developed during the painting analysis making sure that all interior areas would receive some sort of sun light throughout the day.. After continuously working on the site, panels were introduced to open up the spaces a litttle and allow light to come in. After the many iterations, some interior as well as exterior perspectives were captured and render to tell the story of the bathhouse.
